Kilgore Cleaning Kaine's Clock on Immigration
Posted by: Disappointed Dem ()

Jim Kilgore's 11th Hour anti-illegal immigration campaign is going to destroy Tim Kaine's chances of winning Northern Virgina. Yet Kaine says illegal immigration is not a focus of his campaign. Kaine's response is probably one of the most politically tone deaf I have seen. I hope the impending collapse of the Kaine bid will wake up the Dems to the fact they can't ignore illegal immigration or imply people are racist for bringing it up. Illegal immigration matters to most Americans - yeah, even hispanic ones - and it is time our leaders (at all levels) quit screwing around and start enforcing some laws.

Illegal immigration is a matter exclusively for the federal government, not the commonwealth of virginia.

First, it is not exclusively a matter for the Federal government. The state doesn't need to give illegals in-state tuition, for one, or allow the building of labor centers without requiring them to seek documentation from their clients. The state can also place fines on employers who hire illegals. I agree the best way to deal with the issue is for the Federal government to enforce the law, but Kaine can't run a campaign solely on that position and expect to win.

I am a Democrat, but I am getting tired of seeing people driving around in $30K SUVs, over-crowding $600K homes in my neighborhood, and then not paying Social Security, not paying for their medical care and not paying for their kids' school lunches. I want my country back. I'm seriously thinking about voting for Kilgore to send an f-ing message to the Dems that they need to come up with a plan for this for 2006 or face getting clobbered by a wedge issue like they did in 2004.

So Kilgore is hoping to dupe the people into believing that he can do something about illegals. That's right in line with his hitler ad, so I'm not surprised. Illegals paying in state tuition in college is not a problem for me. They're in college trying to better themselves, those are the immigrants we want. You want more tax revenue, raise sales taxes, illegals, and drug dealers, and all other income tax evaders simply cannot avoid it. I personally dont care for any of the candidates b/c they all have soemthing I disagree with.

No shit. That's the Republican Party MO. The problem is they are very good at it and the Democrats always think common sense will prevail, which it won't. The problem is Kilgore is springing this on Kaine in the last days of the campaign before anyone will take time to seriously analyze it. This is Politics, not truth. The Dems need to wake the fuck up.

I agree, but as hard as it is to do, I think you underestimate voters. Sure, many are idiots, but any candidate with -R after his name has a target on his back b/c of the idiot in the white house. The "I'm not a republican" backfired for Kerry, but I think(hope) people understand things have gotten much worse in the past year.

Voters are idiots. Rove knows it. The RNC knows it. And Kilgore knows it.

All I know is that the first lucky GOP pollster who approaches me on Tuesday morning is going to get the royal flush treatment from your truly. I'll take his precious leaflet and go behind a bush, wipe my a$$ with it, then hand it back with a warm smile. I love taunting.

Kilgore plans to give power to state law enforcement over illegal immigration. The way it is set up now with only INS/border patrol having the jurisdiction as far as I know isn't working very well clearly. The Alexandria police flat out say it's not their job to check the status of a person if their legally here or not. You have to love the current policy though, if someone is arrested by the border patrol, and their nationality isn't Mexican, they are released told to show up for a court date. Needless to say about 99% never do. I'm voting Kilgore, because of immigration and because he's endorsed by the NRA.

So Kilgore is going to find funding for arresting and housing of illegal immigrants where? These "conservatives" love spending money they dont have these days. The matter is wholly in the hands of the feds, they're not doing the job, complain to congress.

Where do get the money to imprison people now? Every jail and state prison is overcroweded in all 50 states including all the federal prisons. Usually at twice capacity or worse. A starting prison guard in California gets payed more than twice that of a starting teacher on average. It even costs more to put someone to death in this country than inceracate them the rest of their lives after figuring the amount it locks the state and federal courts up to review their numerous appeals. As far as I know cops are payed with taxes and prisons usually by bond. Regardless of how things are I find it ridiclous that a county or state peaceofficer can't enforce immigration related things because it's a federal law due to the fact wherever a state officer is also is under federal jurisdiction. I think I read there were 3 INS agents in the Northern Virginia area, and I don't think there are border patrol stations not not on borders, so technically there would only be 3 people legally capable of arresting illegial immigrants in Northern Virgnina excluding other federal officers that may or may not be able to (DEA, FBI, etc).

The only reasonable solution to illegal immigration is to create a taskforce of about 20 agents. They show up randomly at places like construction site and retailers, such as McDonalds and Wal-Mart. If there is an undocumented worker working on your premises - $25,000 fine. A similar fine for everyone. Doesn't matter if this person is technically employed by your company or a subcontractor. Doesn't matter if you "knowingly or unknowingly" hired an illegal. If an illegal is working for you - $25,000 fine. That's it. Easy to implement.

Yet another paranoid gun-toting hokie. Take your Wild Bill cowboy boots and go west young man. You might want to stop before you get to the Rocky Mountains though.

Therein lies the problem. How can they all of a sudden add more prisoners to the population? Being an illegal immigrant is a federal offense, so they simply cannot clog our court system with these people. More asshole politicians riling up the populace in an attempt to get votes. Sadly, to an extent, it will work. Didn't we all take civics and government classes in 8th and 12th grade?

Quit whining you Greenspan-wannabe. Just because you were attracted to Kilgore's furry lisp and the fact he lost last night doesn't mean that makes you an original American Indian settler. Let me guess....you're renting a teepee in Leesburg, huh? Douche-bag.

They bring them here in droves using the limitless work visa programs for guest workers. I believe it's H1A for agriculture and H1b for other skills. L1 intercompany visas are also limitless and used to send the jobs offshore. Pubs are pushing for more guest workers and relaxing the requirements to pay competitive market labor rates.
