A man and his daughter are dead this morning in what was apparently a murder-suicide.

Residents called police to a home in the 3800 block of Forest Grove Drive shortly after 1 a.m. after they heard gunshots. Two people were found dead in an SUV in a driveway, NBC4 reported this morning. The news station reported that the man was 40 and his daughter was 13.

Fairfax County Police say there is no threat to the public and the event appears to be an isolated incident that was domestic in nature.

I heard they died. McGruff was on patrol but not there, so didn't do anything to prevent the killing.

This kind of thing makes me sick to my f***ing stomach. Listen, you deranged lone-wolves, if you want to kill yourself then do it. Don't take innocent people with you, especially your little kids. Additionally, keep your crazy ass away from schools, offices, courthouses, and hospitals.

You are saying the daughter killed her innocent father? I have seen no evidence of that or any other aspect of the case. If you know something, you need to report it ASAP.

When the information on this case goes public you'll understand how sad this is for the victim. You won't find any death thread humor from me on this one.

I fail to see any circumstance where this outcome would NOT be sad for the victim. Or is this your way of making jokes again after all the hateful and hurtful things you have said in all the other threads where people lost loved ones and friends?

Allow me to re-phrase. You will see how this is especially sad for the victim. And no, this isn't a joke or an attempt to be funny. The previous poster is right that people who are planning on offing themselves shouldn't take innocent people out with them. This whole situation sucks...

What happened? Was it something like the father lured his family to their old rental house by lying that he'd been able to buy it, then murdered them?

Parents/Guardians:

Today, the Glasgow community dealt with the loss of one our students. As part
of the process, timely information needed to be communicated to our families.
To do this, a backpack letter was given to all students, just prior to
dismissal. Included in this Keep In Touch are the body of the letter in
English, Spanish and a suggested discussion starters for speaking with your
child about the incident.

THE LETTER IN ENGLISH
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of a member of our

A sudden loss like this can have an effect on students. For that reason, we
hope that you will listen to your son or daughter as well as discuss with them
their feelings and reactions to this tragedy.

Crisis intervention is an essential part of support to healthy learning
environments. We have implemented a plan for responding to this tragic event
focused on helping our students get back to regular learning and everyday
activities as soon as possible. We will try to maintain as normal a routine and
structure as the situations allows, and we encourage you to do the same. We
have a crisis response team in place to assist staff, students and parents.
Special counseling services were made available to students today and will
continue to be available throughout the week, if needed.

On behalf of Glasgow Middle School, I have extended our sincere condolences to
Alex’s family. We will continue to inform you of the school’s steps in

My wife knows the mother of the child who was killed. She had been in an abusive relationship with the father of her child. She narrowly avoided being shot today. It's very sad.

The guy who committed the murder was an ex-Fairfax police officer. John Jackson was a former sergeant with Fairfax County police. After 16 years with the department, he left in June 2010.

Any history of mental illness or domestic violence? What about the girl's mother?

You know all day I've been reading news reports and comments about this whole situation.. This is a very difficult situation for everyone, so respect for all parties is greatly appreciated. You all don't know the intricacies that the family experienced, to include both victims, so unless you were constantly present in their lives, please don't pass judgement.

And suicide is more complicated than any of you will ever comprehend, that is unless you have done extensive research into it, but even if you have I highly doubt that you would speak in the manner that some of you have been doing. So again, please respect and make sure you do your research and have all the facts before you decide to get on your high horses...

and before you ask, yes I knew the family...

ANNANDALE, Va. - Fairfax County police have identified the 40-year-old man found dead in an SUV with his 13-year-old daughter Tuesday morning as John Jackson, a former police officer with the department.

Police say Johnson and his daughter, Alexis, lived in the 5900 block of Summers Lane in Falls Church.

The two were found inside a black SUV in the driveway of a split-level home in the 3800 block of Forest Grove Drive near Rosewood Street in Annandale. A family member found them shortly after 1 a.m.

ABC7 is reporting Jackson's wife, Cindy, had filed for divorce last summer and that she lived in the house where John Jackson and Alexi were found.

Police believe the deaths occurred some time between midnight and 1 a.m.

Johnson left the police department in 2010 as a sergeant. He was a 16-year veteran of the police force.

Police are awaiting more information from the medical examiner's office.

He killed her and himself in front of the ex-wife's house and she found them?

I knew the mother. She is a wonderful high school guidance counselor, and specifically, throughout one tough sophmore year of my child's life. How, how, how can those live on after such a horrible thing?

"Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4. This, I pray, with anticipation, for that family.

Is this the husband/daughter of Mrs. Jackson from Yorktown?
