1. Last spring, Gov Mark Warner (D, VA) made the following comment in a speech to the governors’ conference, “By 2010, there’s going to be less than 10 percent of the jobs that are no-skill jobs”. (Source: The Examiner, Feb 7, 2005)
2. The Washington, DC, area has an estimated 400,000 illegal immigrants. A two-year study in Los Angeles by the Day Labor Research Institute found that the typical undocumented worker is male, does not speak English, has little or no formal education and does not own a vehicle.
As many as 60 local governments throughout the nation flaunt federal laws by funding shelters that make the process easier for day labors to find illegal employment. Arlington built a pavilion and spends $ 160,000 annually to keep day laborers in Shirlington from “swarming” – mobbing prospective employers on street corners. Fairfax County is planning to spend some $ 400,000 to do the same, in effect institutionalizing illegal activity.
Not only does cheap illegal labor depress area wages, it creates an underclass susceptible to the lure of gangs and drugs, which is taking a toll in terms of increased crime.

STATE Issues:
1. Last September Gov. Mark R. Warner announced plans to get more children across the state to renew their health insurance coverage (FAMIS which is the state’s portion of Medicaid) with a new bi-language initiative aimed at informing recipients before their coverage expires.
2. 41 percent of the children enrolled in FAMIS and FAMIS Plus are Hispanic.
3. 27,984 thousand children in the second richest county (Fairfax) in the country are on Medicaid (Welfare), 386,000 children in the state of Virginia are on Medicaid.
4. Gov. Warner is proud more than 100,000 have signed up since Jan. 2002, eclipsing a goal Warner had set for himself. (Source: The Examiner, Sept 9, 2004)
5. Our Republican Delegate Gary Reese lost his job on this issue and in Gary’s own words, “Medicaid needed to be reformed and that if it was not reformed Virginia will go bankrupt.”
6. Arguably, over 50 percent of everyone in Virginia receiving Medicaid (Welfare) is an illegal or legal immigrant? Arguably this is true across the nation.
7. Medicaid is a welfare program, enacted as a safety net for the poor and indigent. But the program has grown to care for over 46 million Americans and now legal and illegal individuals at a cost of $338 billion, for FY 2006. The state of Virginia will potentially be bankrupt on the Medicaid issue alone. I ask you, why does the Federal government promote giving welfare to non-United States citizens at the expense of the American middle class at the Federal, State, and Local levels? Thank you Mark Warner

The 11 released passengers were ordered to appear back at U.S. Immigration and Customs offices in D.C. on Thursday, for a final decision that could involve deportation. They did not show up in court, this happens in the majority of INS cases nation wide. (Source: The Examiner, Apr 13, 2005)

Consider this:
Most Fairfax County voters don't vote. They just don't seem to care about anything that happens in the county. Just a few examples:
The county is spending over a $100 million dollars on a government employee training center. I'll bet you that there are not 6 folks outside of those who work for the county knows this - or who care.
Property tqxes have almost doubled in a few short years. There is little, if any, reaction to this. I can't find hardly anyone who knows this, and fewer who care.
Last year, much attention was given by our elected leaders to the fact that they were going to lower the tax rate - 13 cents, down to $1 per $100 of assessed valuation. What taxpayers don't seem to understnd is that massive spending by Fairfax County drives the tax rate - not assessements It's 3rd-grade arithemtic, but few "get it".
Now I ask you, if voters are this disconnected, we deserve what we get - staggering tax increases and all. George Bernard Shaw said it best - when he observed thgat democracy "ensures that we shall be governed no better than we deserve."
If Gov Warner is correct on non-skilled labor and with gas prices hitting 3 dollars a gallon, natural gas going to double this winter. No one is going to have the money to go out to heat, remodel their home, have landscaping done, build homes.
We all need to wake up and demand personal responsibilty for all levels of government and Republican or Democrat elected officials.
In closing, when you subsidze any behavior you get more have it, GOV Warner promoted and inititiated programs to add people to our welfare roles, now we all have to pay for it not only today, but in the future. Instead of roads and education he promised, he gave us welfare (MEDICADE) and higher taxes!

I think the citizens in Herndon are well aware of the illegal workers there, and I guarantee you every Fairfax County homeowner is well aware of the real estate tax amounts. For the past few years I have voted against all incumbants regardless of party, and those unhappy with the state of things should do the same.

Leadership starts at the top and currently the top is controlled by the corrupt GOP who only care about themselves, want to play GI JOE in other countries, spend money they don't have, and hate anything that goes against their self-affirmed traditionalist values (read: Nazi). My advice: Quit your whining. You should already know that the affluent and educated live in urban areas - this includes Northern Virginia. This will never change. Usually people that attack someone by calling names are usually a reflection of what they accuse. They cannot intelligently discuss issues, but attack as if that has meaning. The above post is a prime example of a hateful person. He might learn something about NAZIs and then take a look in the mirror.

During the past several months in the American press, the Democrats have frequently denounced the Republicans as Nazis due to their attempts to control runaway federal spending. How very ironic. I remember the Nazis. Let me share a little about them and recall some of their exploits.
First of all, "Nazi" was gutter slang for the verb "to nationalize". The Bider-Mienhoff gang gave themselves this moniker during their early struggles. The official title of the Nazi Party was "The National Socialist Workers Party of Germany". Hitler and the Brownshirts advocated the nationalization of education, health care, transportation, national resources, manufacturing, distribution and law enforcement.
Hitler came to power by turning the working class, unemployed, and academic elite against the conservative republic. After Der Fuhrer's election ceased being a political conspiracy and was transformed into a fashionable social phenomenon, party membership was especially popular with educators, bureaucrats, and the press.
Being a Nazi was "politically correct". They called themselves "The Children of the New Age of World Order" and looked down their noses at everyone else. As Hitler acquired more power, he referred to his critics as "The Dark Forces of Anarchy and Hatred". Anyone who questioned Nazi high-handedness in the German press was branded a "Conservative Reactionary". Joseph Goebbels, minister of communications, proclaimed a "New World Order".
The Nazi reign of terror began with false news reports on the Jews, Bohemians and Gypses who were said to be arming themselves to overthrow the "New World Order" and Hitler demanded that all good people register their guns so that they wouldn't fall into the hands of "terrorists and madmen".Right-wing fanatics of the "Old Order" who protested firearms registration were arrested by the S.S. and put in jail for "fomenting hatred against the Government of the German people".
Then the Reichstag (government building) was blown up and Hitler ram-rodded an "Emergency Anti-Terrorist Act" through Parliament that gave the Gestapo extraordinary powers. The leader then declared that for the well-being of the German people, all private firearms were to be confiscated by the Gestapo and the Wermotten (federal law enforcement and military). German citizens who refused to surrender their guns when the "jack-boots" (Gestapo) came calling, were murdered in their homes. By the way, the Gestapo were the federal marshals' service of the Third Reich. The S.W.A.T. team was invented and perfected by the Gestapo to break into the homes of the enemies of the German people.
When the Policia Bewakken, or local police, refused to take away guns from townsfolk, they themselves were disarmed and dragged out into the street and shot to death by the S.A. and the S.S. Those were Nazi versions of the B.A.T.F. and the F.B.I. When several local ministers spoke out against these atrocities, they were imprisoned and never seen again.
The Gestapo began to confiscate and seize the homes, businesses, bank accounts, and personal belongings of wealthy conservative citizens who had prospered in the old Republic. Pamphleteers who urged revolt against the Nazis were shot on site by national law enforcement and the military. Gypsies and Jews were detained and sent to labor camps. Mountain roads throughout central Europe were closed to prevent the escape of fugitives into the wilderness, and to prevent the movement and concealment of partisan resistance fighters.
Public schools rewrote history and Hitler youth groups taught the children to report their parents to their teachers for anti-Nazi remarks. Such parents disappeared. Pagan animism became the state religion of the Third Reich and Christians were widely condemned as "right wing fanatics".
Millions of books were burned first and then people. Millions of them burned in huge ovens after they were first gassed to death. Unmarried women were paid large sums of money to have babies out of wedlock and then given medals for it. Evil was declared as being good, and good was condemned as being evil. World Order was coming and the German people were going to be the "peacekeepers".
Yes, indeed, I remember the Nazis and they weren't Republicans, or "right wing", or "patriots" or "militias". They were Socialist monsters.

Allow me point out the obvious since it's clear that you don't think before you post.
Everyone knows the Washington Times is a right-leaning newspaper, ergo making the above-referenced article biased on it's face. In additon, a letter to the editor is simply a secondary source to begin an argument with one's opinion. You should consider going back to school. You'll find that secondary sources as reference materials are historically limited in credibility and accuracy -- and speaking of mirrors, very similar to your stance. You are only making yourself look like a fool by posting your verbal diarrhea on an otherwise entertaining forum.

Mark Warner could have taken the path many politicians take...balancing the budget on the backs of the poor and jeopardizing important issues like education, transportation, and health care. That did not happen.
Virginia realized $1.5 billion in new funding for education, the largest increase in history. At the same time, 140,000 citizens no longer have to file taxes and other programs like Child Health Care and Transportation are receiving the attention they deserve."
Personally I think Chip is racist and thinks that anyone immigrating to the United States doesnt deserve a chance. I guess he is American Indian and his family never immigrated here either.

Republican Jim Gilmore almost destroyed Virginia when he was Governor - and this was during the best economic expansion in U.S. history. Warner turned the state's budget around in a recession.
As for illegal immigration, people need to stop all of this nonsense about shipping illegals home. There are 12 million in this country. We barely have the law enforcement necessary to deal with the 500,000 or so criminals we process in this country each year. How the HELL are these people ALSO going to capture, process and ship 12 million illegals back home?

i do like this idea, however, they have already set up a gov. run place for illegals to get jobs! perhaps we could let that go on for a bit longer and snatch up all the illegals. :) i really dislike illegals, not because of race but because they are a drain on everyone, like leeches. additionally, it seems to be that almost all of the time they dont speak english or speak very little and it's slaughted like all hell so you cant understand. i think the kill on sight is way more effective. ^^

The difference is that Democrats are trying to get elected.
There would be no argument over the Patriot Act if there hadn't been an election in 2004. You'll notice that during the Democratic Primaries you heard the word "Patriot Act" every five minutes. Now that the election is over and Bush is in for another four years there is absolutely zero talk about the Patriot Act.
Most of the banter about it was for the purpose of instigating debates. So actually, I'd say that the Democrats are the ones that were using it for political dirt.
The fact of the matter is that this country has such a fluid media and strong precedents that the Patriot Act is very unlikely to ruin your day. The minute the dry cleaner's phones are tapped and the soccer mom's emails are taken there'll be some justified outcry. I'm sure the Post will be on top of it.
The issue with the Patriot Act is one of jurisdiction. The FBI and Homeland Security aren't going to snoop in on you without having some serious cause to do so. What we need to make certain of is that localities don't jump the gun.

there are maybe 2,000 counties in VA - ea all with a 1/2 corrupt or fully corrupt county gov
there isn't any way a gov could keep track of what county employees are all up to

Yes, Mark Warner (D,VA), Gerry Connolly (D,VA), and their big-money supporters were all correct: THERE IS NO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROBLEM IN FAIRFAX COUNTY! Not in 2005 and not in 2015.
If there was a problem, our schools would be overcrowded, free lunch program participants would be skyrocketing, emergency rooms would be full of urgent care seekers, dozens of loiterers would be hanging out by 7-11s and Home Depots looking for work, and the county jail would be full of non-English speakers.
