I went with my wife and kids to the Reston Town Center about 6 weeks ago. In front of the theater was a pack of about 30 black teenagers, screaming obscenities at each other and passers-by, just acting completely out of control.

Fast forward to last Saturday night. Went there again to get dinner. Different crowd of blacks running around screaming, taunting, etc. We came out of the restaurant and there were a number of police cars. Cops were there breaking up a fight.

We were talking to one of the female cops. She said it's like this every weekend, and all they can do is respond to calls since there is not a "loitering law."

I'm not sure what attracts the Section 8 locals. I guess it's the movie theater? I'm surprised the Reston Association and local vendors allow this crap to go on. If I've made a decision to quit going there until this is cleaned up then I'm sure plenty of others feel the same.

Get used to it if you live in Reston and celebrate the diversity. I think RTC is private property and they could do something if they wanted but they dont dare. I think we all know why.

The last time I was at the Town Center I went to Jackson's and all saw was a bunch of yuppie business men and women. A parade of BMW's and Lexus pulling in and out of the garage beside the place.

The Reston police also patrol the RTC place pretty heavy since the Reston police station is only a block away. The RTC also has there own hired fairfax county and security officers. I've never seen any "gang type" activity. I'd say the place is more a yuppie and high rise business men dinner type place.

Low income housing is scattered proportionally across Fairfax county by law. The strange part about Reston is you have the counties super rich and big business executives from Oracle, Google and Microsoft mixed in.

Yeah, I was out at night at the RTC over the Summer and there was a large group of Black teenagers hanging out in front of the theater, cursing, screaming, and generaly menacing anyone who had to walk past them.

Three White kids were trying to walk up to the theater. When the group saw them coming, 5-6 Black guys stood up and walked out into the street to create an "obstacle course" for the White kids to walk through. Every Black guy they passed threw shoulders and elbows at them until they gave up trying to get to the theater and walked away. Then the crowd of Blacks hooted and hollered about how they had "kep''dem White bitches" away from the theater.

After that, two of the Black guys got into a fight trying to impress the girls who immediately began to egg them on as the fought in the middle of the street. One guy swung the other straight into a parked Mercedes as hard as he could. The impact left a MASSIVE dent in the Mercedes. Then the other one leapt up on the hood of another parked car and tried to do a "flying karate kick", leaving a dent in the hood. All the while the entire group screaming and cheering.

THEN I watched as the group moved down the block and all of them who had finished their sodas just threw the empty cups down in the middle of the street and just stepped over them. A private security guard saw all of this and just turned around and walked the other way.

I haven't gone to the RTC for dinner since. Don't want to come out to big dents stoved into my car.

there is some section 8 housing in reston just down reston parkway from RTC plus you have little havana in herndon.

Southlakes school district is one of the worse in fairfax county. mostly as a result of the disproportionate amount of the low income housing in reston.

I've never had a problem at the RTC. Maybe I'm just there after work with business associates and don't see it. If anything I think the Town center is a little to stuffy or snobby. All the women there are gold diggers that remind me of trophy wives. I've seen a lot of Redskins and some Capital players at Jacksons and the ATR.

I do agree you don't want to drive out of the RTC with a buzz, the cops are always watching people leaving the place.

Interesting. Never seen this at the RTC myself. I do live in Reston though (first time homeowner so my price range was here or Centerville, most places in Centerville where south American flop houses). There is some section 8 around but never had any problems myself.

I know it sounds crazy, i did not believe it either. my girlfriend worked at the town center and at night people are fighting and shit.cops everywhere. mostly white kids. some black.

Cheapest meal? $50.00. It won't happen over night, but it will remover the desire to go there to cause problems. I have a few other tricks that might dissuade miscreants from showing up:

Have a large group of soldiers engage in a very robust recruiting campaign every evening.

Start charging for parking. Even $1.00 will keep a lot of people away.

Dress codes in all the restaurants. Jacket and ties for the guys.

Put the nearest bus stop three miles away.

Good idea, especially the soldiers. I would help them, because I actually believe in something called patriotism (I'm still in high school). I would prefer to go there with my girlfriends IF there weren't so many people causing trouble there.

Double check your sources for self defense laws here in VA. Not talking shit to you here, but if you look into the laws etc. VA is a 'stand your ground' state and you have no duty to retreat before acting in self defense.

In Virginia you are justified killing someone in self defense if you see a handgun or knife. You only need to feel your life is in danger. You are not required to flee or insist the attacker flees. You would however have a hard time proving your life was in danger if you do not see a gun or knife.

When I am confronted by the thugs at RTC I just do as they ask and celebrate the diversity. Besides I think they are angry over slavery so they have every right to act as they do.

All good info. But you dont ALWAYS have to see a knife or gun in the bad guys hand for it to be justified. 10 kids giving a beatdown on one person can be fatal so the VA requirement is that you 'feared for your life'.

What if we had separate sections of the Town Center, one section for Whites and one for Blacks. Neither side could go into the other's section without getting a severe ass-beating. That way the Blacks could be happy trashing their section out all they wanted and being all "thuggy" and shooting each other, and dealing crack and whatever they wanted too. Then Blacks could destroy their own stuff while genteel, well-mannered White people could enjoy their dinners in peace and quiet with out being bothered by savages? Kind of a "separate but equal" sort of thing, (to start out with, but not counting the damage and trashing that Blacks do to their side when responsible for it).

It's such a good idea that I'm surprised no one's thought of it yet.

From talking to friends: the further north (i.e., north of Baron Cameron) the better.

Worst area are areas around Glade, Colts Neck, and areas south of Lake Anne.

The area around the hunter mill safeway is shit - so a small portion of glade east of Reston Pkwy, and all of Colts Neck going North towards Sunrise Valley.

Once you get into Deep run neighborhood Glade gets better, and then stays nice.

Soapstone around the 7-11 and dominos is shit. I always have my CCW when I enter the store as the people loitering around the store can be problem, and at night depending on where you park there are plenty of places to get jumped from.

Going west from the intersection of Soapstone and South lakes - all trash.

I have heard that the lake homes are OK owing to the high prices that they command...Otherwise, its hit and miss.

I'm surprised they even allow that. When I used to chill there in a group while in high school and for a couple of years afterwards, they would always make us keep walking so that we weren't "Loitering". Yeah, a huge portion of my group of friends were black, but they never yelled at people nor did stupid shit towards anyone outside of our group of friends.

However, when I was about 16 a group of black guys in their late 20's started harassing a friend of mine outside of the movie theater one night. Wow, real big of some grown-ups to pick on a high school Junior who weighed all of 120 lbs. I was only with a group of three others, and they all ran off, so I was left standing up for my friend. We were there for about 20 minutes with these clowns going back and forth talking about robbing us, mugging us, and beating us up (Even "Making us swim with the fishes", lol). I laughed at the biggest guy when he said that last line, I mean, come on, you're not Paisans you queers. Anyhow, the one guy kept fronting that he was going to hit me, but he never did, and after we didn't budge for 20 minutes they finally walked off without saying anything else.
