95/60 Reckless Driving

I got a reckless driving ticket for going 95/60 on I-66W at 9:30 Sunday night. I didn't think I was going that fast and there was hardly anybody on the road. I have a spotless record and am taking a Driving Course to max out my points before my court date. I also have clearances for the work I do with the government. Can anybody give me some insight on the possibility of getting a lesser charge or anything less severe?

i had a 92/65 at 1am... i didn't get it dropped to a lesser charge, but i didnt go to jail for it... hope for that...
its a day in jail for every mile over 90... half served.. and expect to lose a liscense, lawyer or not. but if you do get one, have him fight for restricted..
fortunately for me, i didn't have a license when i was pulled over, so loosing it at court wasn't a huge deal.. :)

i had a local lawyer - this was out in hanover..
from everything i had heard its half served, as in.. if you get sentenced to 4 days, you serve 2...
honestly i wasnt worried about going in (even with the driving under suspended), but it IS something they can do.. lawyer should remedy that though..
i think my total was like $491 (this is before the new fees).. and most of that was the reckless ticket..

My roommate had her 87/65 ticket reduced from reckless since it was her first ticket. I think she got a lot of points and a $300 fine + lawyer/court fees. She was able to keep her license though.

Well even if not, the first thing to do is read the wiki page:

Then get your speedometer calibrated, especially if you felt liek you werent going that fast.
and if you already have +5 points on your record, dont take the calss becuase you cant have more than 5. That would be 5 years w/o ticket

Yes I got the ticket in Fairfax, right on that 66 between Cub run and Bull Run.
Right now I have +1 and with the class I will max out at +5.

any judge in FFX County general district court will tell you that there are no speed limts above 55 in the county

Hey dumb ass the speed limit does go up to 60mph IN FAIRFAX COUNTY on I-66..

Just tell the judge that you recently returned from The Sandbox and that you're used to driving that fast to avoid ambushes and IED's. It's a post traumatic stress disorder thing. Hopefully the ol' goat has a heart.

I hope so. I have never gotten in any type of trouble and I hope that they take my perfect driving record and the fact I have a security clearance into account.

I wouldn't hope for a restricted license in Fairfax at 95 mph. It's funny, you can get a restricted for a DUI, but they almost never give it for a reckless charge. Weird huh? With the right lawyer you may avoid jail time, but you may get at least one or two days regardless of whom you hire as an attorney. Regarding your security clearence, I have had this come up before, USUALLY a RD charge does not mess with your ability to renew your clearence. Good luck.

Hmm, seems to me that the speed limit on the express lanes of I95 is 65 for most if not all of FX cty.

Complete the driver improvement course PRIOR to going to court. Also, hire a lawyer. I recommend Bob Whitestone in Fairfax. Don't waste your time or money getting your speedometer calibrated. Your lawyer may be able to negotiate a lesser charge. Wouldn't worry about your clearances, though you may need to list them if the fine is over a certain amount (it will tell you on the form).

170.00 fine, and like 3 points i think.. Ohh well..
Never took a driving class..
If you have a spotless driving record, you should have Extra points set aside, for things like this.

Get the lawyer. You need to get the charge away from Reckless which is a misdemeanor in Virginia. You will have to report it on your security clearance paperwork for (I believe) 7 years and it may cause an adjudicator to question whether or not you are "responsible" enough to hold the clearance (depending on the level clearance). Plus the conviction for reckless carries 6 points, up to a year in jail and up to $2500 fine and stays on your record for 11 years. If you add in the insurance premium increase, the lawyer may very well be cheaper in the long run.

Uhm the third guy from the BOTTOM was found guilty for 90 in 55. According to Gravis' post he was sencented 360 days and got 240 suspended. So did he really serve 120 days just for speeing??? That should be an easy appeal unless he got charged for something elso as well, like a dui but for speeding alone that very excessive.

WOW, I bet he will be shopping for a geo once he gets out. That is insane. Buddy of fine got a ticket 69/35 but the cop was nice enough NOT to write him up for reckless so he ended up pre-paying $200 something dollars. He has bad driving record but I dont think a judge can give you jail or suspend your license for NON-reckless

I got nailed for some ridiculous speed, I think 94/65 in PW county... hiring a lawyer was the smartest thing I did after doing something that stupid. He got me no jail time and just two months restricted license. The judge totally took into account the time of day, visibility, amount of traffic, and size of my car (he asked the officer about all of these things). He also took into account that I did not have a negative driving record... I guess that they see such awful negative point amounts everyday that a record of zero points must look pretty good to them.

Is VA that strict on Reckless driving?!? I got pulled over in NY over the T'giving holiday for a DWI (blew a .09) and the limit is .08. Go figure, 3 Bud Light bottles and I'm drunk!?! Anyhow, I didn't get my license suspended or anything. Yes, I had a lawyer. Pleaded not guilty and paid 1500 to my lawyer + a few hundred in NY fines. I don't get why reckless is just as bad as a dwi charge in va?

I just got convicted of a 92/55 in FFX county. I have 2 prior reckless tickets and some other speeding. I got a lawyer took all those dumb ass classes and etc
90 days in jail was suspended 1000 fine suspended 500 of it and 6 months loss of license. I then flipped out on my lawyer and he got me a restricted for 6 months!!!! I am still upset cause 6 months is a long ass time !! Atleast I got to keep my job and saw no days in jail.. I think i did ok due to the circumstances
Good luck im sure u will be fine as long as the DA and Judge arent in bad moods lol

Just get a lawyer and you'll be ok, I've got caught going 80 in a 55, I didn't get locked up but got a fine. Most lawyers can get it dropped from 90 to 74 in a 55...hopefully. good luck buddy

Bullshit! Most might secure a disposition which includes no jail time or very little and they might help you with a restricted license but MOST are not going to get 90 knocked down to 74.

Call Kevin Wright at Pikrallidas Law OPffice. Good lawyer. 95 mph can get you in jail for 5 days and loss of license for 6 months.

Yes, I am glad it is over. I also had a lawyer, he did all the talking and before I even went in the court room I had a deal. I went and took a driving course after I got my ticket and got a +5 on my driving record. Also, got all of my previous driving records from other states to show that this was the first time I had ever been ticketed.

7 months ago i got cut doing 90 in a 55 zone, 395. And tomorrow is my last court date. Im really flippin out...i mean i took the driving improvement classes, hire a good lawyer and did 30 hrs of community service. I even have 2 letters of recommendation. It's reckless, I know. Anyone had a similiar situation? Plz let me know

Enjoy your next PR. You still have to put the ticket on your SF86 and you'll still have to explain what the ticket. Investigators check your arrest and ticket record and they'll see the trial. Even with the fine reduced, it is still over $150 which is the point where you have to start disclosing tickets and fines.

Andy Geloo great lawyer in fairfax. i got a reckless on Reston parkway,took the Reckless and Agessive class/ and other class too. Didn't get reckless reduced to speeding. Andy was great,know the system. Calibrating my car didn't do much but cost a $100.
1st time went to court ,had it continued. DA didn't want to budge,next time reduced to speeding with a larger fine. take the fine vs Reckless on your record.U don't want the charge. If you have a good driving record helps out alot.
