Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
A neighbor ran over my mail post and mail box this morning. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? My community has a special design and all must look a like. Thanks for any help.
Have you checked with the HOA? They should have a source if it is a standard design. Otherwise, try Lowe's and Home Depot.
FYI, this can be a miserable project since some posts are stuck in 2-3 feet of concrete. Digging this out and lifting it vertically is no easy chore and took me an a neighbor the better part of a Saturday.

Ran over your mail post and box? Were they drunk? I assume they're paying for the new one.
Of course, this is why I hate HOAs. Your mailbox must look alike. Must your dog look alike too?
To get it out is acutally kind of easy, similar to removing fence posts.
First, if any it still above the concrete/ground, drill a largish hole and pass somthing string thru it (piece of rebar?) and pull it up. Maybe get someone to help.
Or, saturate (with water) the ground around the post, to make it easier to pull out.
Dig a massive hole around it. If you dont mind minimal the damage to your yard, this is a good way to "get back" at your HOA, because in order to do what they require, you have to make a massive hole in your lawn.
get a digging bar from HD or lowes and smash the concrete up by hitting the bar with a sledgehammer.
lastly if the above doesnt work, dig a new hole and cover the old one.
I don't do any of that HOA bullshit. Anytime I replace something on my house, I go out of the way to find something that doesn't match the rest of the neighborhood. 30 years ago, the HOA would send me a letter stating something about non-compliance. And everytime, I would write them back and say I couldn't find a match.

Your neighbor should be paying to fix this. Or, you could take his and then they have to find a new one.
My neighbor Artie, who just opened a new Arthur Treacher's franchise, just replaced his old mailbox with a customized yellow & green mailbox in the shape of the Arthur Treacher's restaurant.
When I saw this thread, I told Artie about this mailbox dilemma, and he said he'd be more than happy to help anyway he could. Give Artie a call at 347-462-4477 (FISH-N-CHIPS).
He also added that anyone that comes to his new location, at Kamp Washington, and gives the secret tartar sauce handshake, will receive 50% off their order.
Nobody cares about mail posts. I see it all the time , a beautiful house and a mail post and box that looks like something that belongs in a trailer park.
I keep my post and box looking nice. I even plant flowers around the post in the Spring. Believe it or not It dose make a nice impression.

Flowers attract bees which attack mail deliverers.
As a post-box repair professional, I have repaired and replaced thousands of poles supporting post-boxes.
But, in your case, I would not take this job due to the fact that you are such a piker that you cannot talk to your neighbour about his negligence. How can you call yourself a man (or even a woman)? Grab your bollocks, walk over there and demand that they replace it, you poff.
I recently replaced my post and box and i have to say it’d been a lot easer just to pay someone $200 to do it. Having the tools, specifications from my fricken HOA, and the EXACT color was a major pain in the ass.
Just get a P.O. Box at the Post Office and have all your mail delivered there. You don't need a mailbox. That's safer anyway as you don't have to worry about someone stealing your mail.
