FIOS internet is crawling
Posted by: Animal Cracker ()

Started yesterday. Extremely slow internet browsing. I've done all the normal troubleshooting -- rebooted Actiontec router, computers, etc. Changed my DNS settings. Anybody else having this problem?? I live in the Reston area. Out.

Didn't they just end unlimited usage by throttling traffic when usage thresholds are reached?

I think that was just for wireless data traffic.

Maybe he can't take a week off from work to try to get any sense out of those stupid motherfuckers.

My FiOS is slow as shit too, it usually won't even stream a video during the day.
The only thing I can say in FiOS's favor is it hasn't had an outage in the couple years I've had it.

I'm going back to Cox when my contract runs out. They had fairly frequent outages but at least you could call them. If you needed a new remote or other hardware you just stopped by their place and picked it up. I need a new remote for my FiOS but I haven't got up the will to call those fuckers, I'm sure it will be a nightmare.

Then there's the crooked horseshit they pull when they want you to re-up your contract (at a higher rate). Basic channels just disappear, but only the ones that it just so happens that you watch. Coincidence? I think not. Rotten bastards.

DSL isnt much better. One thing is certain you will never get Verizon to admit the problem is on their end. They will blame contractors digging in the area or a bad connection at your house. Verizon reminds me of AOL dial up years back when they had unlimited service yet if you left the connection on past an alloted time you would find yourself bumped off.

Good luck with Cox. I couldn't stand the digital tiling and freezing any longer. It started about a year ago and just got worse and worse. They tried to tell me it was "normal". BS. I think cox has thrown in the towel on consumer cable and just focuses on Business customers now. I've had FIOS for only 3 months but I love it.

They can't fix it, if you don't call them and open a trouble ticket. It's called common sense dickweed.

Why don't you try to call them sometime? But don't use your internal numbers, call the regular "customer service" number. Good fucking luck to you.

And like the other guy said, they're going to tell you it's your shit that's fucked up, not theirs.

Face it, dude, your company is notorious for shitty "customer service".

I recently had an excellent interaction with Fios customer service

After a (very) nearby thunderstorm, the ONU (optical network unit) mounted on the outside of my house had hung up

The agent walked me through removing the battery backup and allowing the ONU to reset. Fast and professional - no truck roll needed

Other than that, FIOS has 'just worked' - I regularly get 40+ download and 25+ upload (using the ookla testers at speedtest.net reston/herndon servers)

I live in Mt Vernon and have been experiencing the same problem both at my house and my moms house. It's been going on for the past 2 weeks or so

pretty much flawlessly in my experience

there's a lot less to go wrong - no copper connections, the final fiber optic to the house is pre-cut and pre-terminated - it should just run

In a year, I've had to reboot the router and the ONU once each - mother-in-law has had no problems in two years

I run speedtest.net and pingtest.net occasionally and always get good performance (except for the packet loss test not working...)

Had fios for a couple years now. It cuts out about once a week at least (Internet). Tv doesn't cut out completely but the picture freezes several times an hour for a few seconds. Had 3 or 4 service calls -- never fixes it. I've worked with computers enough to know that intermittent problems are hard to diagnose but their customer service just doesn't give a shit. They don't even try.

FIOS internet fails out frequently, except when it's just slow - and I have the top-end speed subscription. Had FIOS in NJ 4 years ago, moved from Comcrap. At the time comparing the two was easy. Comcast tech & customer support was invariably nice. They were also appallingly incompetent. The rule-of-thumb was that if you saw a Comcast truck on your street aor anywhere within a 5 block radius, you expected service to go down for a day or two. Compared to Comcast, Verizon FIOS service and support was great! Fast forward...

So, I moved to the Mt. Vernon area and have had FIOS for two years. Verizon absolutely sucks!! The reps are rude and don't care if you're having issues. I'm in IT - with significant cable & Telco experience, so I know the backend engineering for this stuff. FIOS has degenerated to the point that if Dish & Sprint merger happens, I'm moving. WTF Verizon?
