I got a ticket for littering for throwing a cigarette out of my window today in a parking lot. The cop stopped in the rain to write a citation for this; I was doing nothing else wrong (speeding etc.) Really???? In the rain! Spare me the "you're a douchewhistle for being a smoker and a litterbug" comments; I'm posting this to ask if anyone else has gotten one of these or knows someone who has. What was the outcome in court? Oh, and I really am a stupid asshole, because I have to go to court, can't prepay this. Since I didn't realize that at the time, I decided to curse out Officer Faggot... and later realize I have to see him again in court. Son of a WHORE. I hate cops who have nothing better to do than to play God. I'm not saying I was right; apparently I broke a lA thT I was not aware existed... but still, what the fuck???!!!

Serious answer: Get a lawyer. I know of a few a Fairfax Judges who will throw people with littering tickets in jail for 5 days if found guilty.

I immediately checked my rearview mirrors for police and then said something to her about being lucky that nobody saw that. She said it's not littering because it was the woods and the apple is completely biodegradable.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse... but disregarding that, how could any rational person think it is OK (and legal) to discard trash onto public property? I have always been curious about what makes people think it is acceptable to litter. It's disgusting, filthy and unsanitary and shows a fundamental lack of respect to other people. I'd love to compare the collective IQ of people that litter vs. those that don't. That would probably be very revealing.

Oh, were you also the guy that threw out the butt a couple of years ago along Route 7 just before it intersects with Route 28? We sat in traffic for an hour while the local Fire Department got there and put out the blaze that had jumped to-and engulfed-- heavy vegetation on both sides of the road by that time. Some people have developed some common sense by learning simple lessons of life in the course of everyday living, and others have to learn their lessons by a much more "direct" manner.
