Anyone know anything about the abandoned house on Ballantrae Ln. off 123 in McLean? It's on a large lot of land and hasn't seemed to be touched in decades; doesn't seem to fit the affluent neighborhood it's in. I've been inside it about 10 years ago when I went to McLean HS. Very creepy (supposedly haunted), some old furniture and appliances remain, etc. Curious as to what may have happened there to keep it in such poor condition.
Yeah I went there alot in highschool, about 10 years ago as well. We threw alot of parties in there and really creepy things seemed to happen. The most odd was that none of our flash lights or lighters would work in there and we eventually freaked ourselves out enough that we all went running out screaming. Once we were out out lighters and flash lights worked just fine. I heard that it used to be the old Kennedy mansion (the current Kennedy mansion is across the street). I also heard they had an exorcism in there (probably just a rumor since the exorcist stairs arent far from there) Another time we went driving by and tons of flashes of light were going off inside the house. I've always wondered the true story as well.

Wow, sounds like you were high on some pretty special dope back then! I'm jealous.

You're probably right since the only place an exorcism can take place in the DC area and is in Georgetown.
Address please; they tore down several homes on Ballantrae within the past few years, mostly on the east side of 123. There was a great little Frank Lloyd Wright looking house at Ballantrae and West Lnagley they tore down about two years ago. I thought it resembled Cameron's house in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I was sad to see it go. I guess it is MacMansion time on that lot.
I have heard stories about this house for many years, but I never got the chance to see it. Several different people told me it was haunted. Someone said they saw two big sheep dogs sitting on either side of the entrance of the street. After a minute the dogs walked together back toward the abandoned house and vanished in the tall grass. The person was left feeling like something was not normal about what they saw. I recently drove by the street and all I can see is trees and an empty road. I tried researching anything I could to find out about the history of the street or the house and there is nothing online about it. The property records show that the street used to have multiple addresses on it, but it looks like the houses were torn down and now someone owns the land. I don't know why the new owner would block the street off with concrete barriers and leave the land untouched. I know it takes a while for companies to develop and build neighborhoods, but it feels like there's mysterious perhaps dark reason why that street seems to have been condemned and left in isolation from the rest of McLean.

Be careful... While I like urban exploration as much as the next guy... the cops will probably arrest if they catch you. Just some friendly advice.
That house and property is where John Thomas grows his marijuana plants and sells it to his players. His hopes are to one day turn it into a meth lab after he wins a settlement in his wrongful firing lawsuit.
I go to mclean high and live really close to the school and wanted to know if the house is worth going into. I've been going into abandoned places for a while now and have been looking for more thrills!
The mansion in mclean is still there, when I went a couple weeks ago there was a few signs advising not to go in that had been posted two days before. Pretty cool place to check out but those signs indicate is could be a risky place to explore in the near future

Well now you’ve done it. I guess that was your intent.
Friends and I used to go explore the mansion all the time in 2017 and had a pretty fun time taking pictures and exploring the different rooms. We went back this past Saturday 12/7 and the whole building is still heavily boarded off. We were trying to look for an entrance in but it seems no one has been able to make an opening yet. Was wondering if anyone knows an entrance somewhere on the building or if we will have to wait for some brave and stupid person to take a crowbar to the boards?
