My daughter was asking for those as well - seems the Mexican Coke uses sugar instead of corn syrup. Maybe one of the Korean markets (of all places) has it - they carry a LOT of South of the Border foods.

I read today in Kiplinger's that Mexicans drink 60% more Coca Cola per capita than Americans.

The only downfall is that they sell it in 6-packs. The price is a bit costly when compared to regular Coke Classic. Damn, being a Mexican can be expensive.

My practice is doing a brisk business with teens and tooth decay. In my many years as a dentist I have seen the tooth decay in kids skyrocket. Cola is the reason. If you like your teeth you may want to give it up or go diet soda. Diet soda is still bad for you but not as bad.

Does anyone know if you can still get soda after school from the soda machine? That is a crime.

Actually, schools have switched over to juice machines, which still have the same sugar content of Colas. Mr. Dentist, what's your opinion of Mountain Dew? I'm not talking about that diet stuff either - that's for pussies.

Back in the summer months, I got into the Throwback editions of Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Both of these beverages were made with sugar instead of the high fructose corn sweetener. Personally, I thought there would be more of a difference. Actually, I didn't find the difference a *major* one. Sure, there is some variation, but probably not enough to go out and purchase it a 2nd time.

They're calling it "throwback" because it is recreating the ancient original formulas that used sugar instead of corn syrup (among other ingredients). When sugar comes down in price (as it should when we finally normalize relations with Cuba) and assuming the Corn Lobby doesn't keep that Cuban sugar out, we can expect a lot of drinks to get back to their sugar roots.

[I think the whole reason for these limited-edition throwback trials is to see if the people are ready for sugar to be reintroduced]

I do not like the vending machines at high schools. H20 is the way to go.

Sugar is an evil lurking behind so many foods. Parents can make the choice at home but at a public school they cannot. BTW: I am not the food police at my own home. I try and buy to make the right choices for my kids while I still can.

Sugar is my last concern! Try teenage rape, pregnancy, and drugs. The best time to stay at home today is in middle school and high school. We wasted so much money on daycare when we should have saved for last five years to seven years.

I now stay home part-time but I am lucky. Most parents of kids my age do not get home till 6:00 pm or after.

It's always interesting to note the differences in the Classic Cokes in different countries. Between Germany, Spain, and the Bahamas, I've noticed a difference in taste from the Coke here (Even going back into the mid-90's). The Coke in Europe didn't seem as acidic to me either.

"Kosher" means it's been prepared according to Jewish dietary laws, and some rabbi has signed off on the product. (They hire special rabbis to work at the food plant.) There are stricter versions of the rules applied to foods eaten at Passover, so there's "KP" (kosher for Passover) certified foods. Ashkenazi Jews think corn is not kosher for Passover. So Coca-Cola makes sugar Coke which is specially marked and sold at some locations for Passover.

The rules about what is kosher are mostly derived from passages in the Leviticus and Deuteronomy, interpreted by rabbis over the centuries. It is arbitrary religious ritual.

Not true. Wegman's has the regular 24 count boxes of them as well

Costco seems to carry these as well, and they're $18.99 there vs. $25.99 at Wegman's. I buy all of mine at Costco, and have found them at the Fairfax and Woodbridge stores.

Thanks for recognizing the same issues with Corona that I have with it. I've got a 6-pack in my fridge left over from the Holidays - we had to have it just because "guests will ask for it". Ha!! If they only knew.

In regards to the Cola, I'm sure if there was any disease in the water, the acid from the beverage itself would take care of that issue.

It's interesting that no one has mentioned the negative health effects of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). There has been research out now for a while about the long term negative effects of HFCS, and recently, it has been picking up steam.

This should be of concern to anyone who buys processed foods at the grocery store. Look at the ingredients of almost anything and it will contain HFCS (or a derivative).

In a nut shell, controversial studies show HFCS maybe a large contributor to the U.S. obesity epidemic (as compared to the influence of cane sugar). Basically, researchers are finding that HFCS tricks the part of our brain responsible for telling us we're full/stop eating (i.e. normal appetite functions). As a result, that "I'm full" response gets delayed and we tend to eat more, thus, contributing to the obesity epidemic.

These research studies are so controversial because of the corn lobbyists (Corn Refiners Association). They certainly don’t want news getting out that HFCS could be detrimental to your health because they would lose billions of $$$.

Due to the phenomenon of consumer purchasing power, you and I can directly influence the use of HFCS in our food. You may have noticed that some common food products now declare the “absence of HFCS†or “made with real sugarâ€.

Yes, HFCS is cheaper then cane sugar, thus making food products cheaper for the consumer. However, since this manmade chemical is in goddamn nearly everything, I’d want to know what the long term effects are….
