This is my second year on the team. I do not care to divulge any more information on a public forum, although several members of the team already know my identity.

The worst I have ever seen in the locker rooms was every boy cramming themselves into one handicapped bathroom. Never heard of actual probing.

I was in the recital hall when Meier addressed the Parents, and KOF's story matches with what I saw, so unless you have a first hand fact to speak about, you might as well temper your derision.

There were a lot of Parents that were angry about the way the boys were questioned, especially the highly antagonistic interrogations. Mr. Meier's manner of talking down to the parents didn't help either. I think the parents understood the boys shouldn't have had their shower party, and would have bought into some form of punishment. I think the guys who participated deserved to punished, and I think the coaches could have accomplished this. The rest of the problem was the dearth of facts provided to parents.

What was even more frustrating was that a few of the parents spoke up and they found that other parents had experienced similar situations from the administration before where their kids had been interrogated by police with yelling and screaming at the kids without notifying the parents until afterwards.

As a former coach I always found group punishment to be ineffective and demoralizing. I think they knew who started this up, and could have found out without all the histrionics and screaming. Also,they could have spoken to the Lifeguard and asked him what he witnessed rather than inferred based on hearing a conversation.

So,from what I can tell KOF is telling the part I know about straight, and if the other posters are being truthful there are other parents in Fairfax County who have had similar issues with their administrators.

After most of you had left one of YOUR teammates came up to me and 2 other guards while we were in the bathroom and tried to justify what I had witness, saying "its just how our swimteam is" So just give up. Your own teammates are admitting it. You obviously were not there at the time of the incident.

I feel like a broken record...no one is denying what happened, including me. A freshman boy was slapped that night. I was in the shower stall with three other boys who all saw it happen. What I'm arguing against is how it was handled by the "honorable" men in our schools.

Want me to tell you what I saw? The freshman stood in a circle of boys, and had his bare butt slapped by an older boy with a handful of soap. Does that justify the admins' behavior toward us? And does that justify telling your managers that we were hazing freshmen, when a swimmer specifically told you that it's just boys being boys?

EDIT: No, it does not mean it is okay for us to do it. But do you ever see the entire football team being interrogated and getting a new coach, all for a simple slap on the ass? Not to mention boxing in the locker rooms, the choke game, and the whole drinking scandal...

Your post just confirms what I thought about FCPS' policies. Pulling 30 boys out of classes for hours at a time, multiple times, intimidating boys and forcing them to write down false statements, firing coaches without talking about the allegations with the coaches, students, or parents, therefore demoralizing the team that had won 7 straight state titles? None of it matters to FCPS; they will just disregard it all. As long as FCPS covers their own asses, the ends justify the means.

Honestly, what "integrity" do they have to preserve after this whole episode?

Well of course he won his events at the state level, but no one in their right mind would ever believe the person coaching the Mt. Vernon swim team had anything to do with his ability. Quite a few years ago there was a girl from Lee H.S. who won multiple gold medals in the olympics, Melissa Belote (not sure of the spelling). You think the Lee coach developed her? No way!

That is true... but some HS coaches have to think about strategy - especially in a district that produces state champions every year.
