Or you could just "win" $1 by not wasting it on lotteries.

Seems like an appropriate time to link to the sad story of Jack Whittaker, the guy who ruined his life by winning a $315 million Powerball jackpot.

How did winning the lottery ruin his life? Just because that bad shit happened after he won the lottery doesn't mean it was caused by him winning the lottery.

Just like a good baseball player like Barry Bonds becomes great when fueled by steroids, a redneck asshole goes from being a good asshole to a great asshole when fueled with $100 million.

On August 5, 2003, thieves broke into his car while it was parked at the Pink Pony, a strip club in Cross Lanes, West Virginia. The thieves went away with $545,000 in cash [1][2]. Two employees at the same club were later arrested and charged with a plot to put drugs in Whittaker's drinks and then rob him. On January 25, 2004, thieves once again broke into his car, this time making off with an estimated $200,000 in cash that was later recovered.

Haha what a fuckwit, he carries suitcases of cash with him????

If I won $300 million, I would buy a fucking island or mountain and shoot any bastard who came near it.

And I wouldn't be one of those putz's who says, "I'm going to keep working as a plumber." The problem with that is you no longer rely on that job, so the first time someone fucks with you...which they will because every job involves someone trying to fuck with you...you'll up and quit anyway because you don't need the job.

I'll tell you one thing. I wouldn't be one of those morons who buys two Rolls-Royces and then a hodge-podge of muscle cars and shit trucks that lose value.

I think you'd HAVE to move....so none of your "friends" and relatives can find you to ask for a loan (gift).

The guy from West Virginia was white trash. His winning the money had disaster written all over it. First he gave a big donation to a hillbilly church. Then he just wasted it and everyone looked for a way to sue him.

The best way is to hire a lawyer or financial adviser right away to protect whatever Uncle Sam doesn't skim off the top, usually up to 40%. First move to a gated community to keep all the leeches and lawsuit seekers at bay. But don't expect a warm welcome from your neighbors, they will see you as just some low life who happened to win the lottery.

Yeah, that's one thing that worries me about winning that much money. I would probably prefer to stay anonymous, but I don't know if that's possible. Suddenly you have the responsibility of having all that money, you might have to worry if you're safe, and you have to think about what to give your family and stuff. LIke, do I want reporters showing up at my door and broadcasting "A RICH GUY LIVES IN THIS HOUSE"?

I'd definitely go for the payment plan instead of a lump sum, when it's at that level where you're getting millions per year.

In the short-term I would really want to keep it a secret. I'd stay in my house, but fix it up nice. Get everything in order and figure things out.

Also, I'd be afraid when I first found out. Anyway, do you buy a ticket with your name on record, or is it the physical thing you have to have, or what? Could someone take the ticket from me and claim it?

I'd be in a rented car on the way outta here so quickly it would make my head spin. It would not be that hard to stay incognito for a few months until the story blows over. It would be a pretty cool road trip actually, and I'd try to film the whole thing.

There is some kind of law connected with the winnings where they have the right to use your name but not your face unless you consent to it.
I would take a lump sum so inflation wouldnt eat up the remaining payments.

The ticket is what they call a bearer instrument meaning whoever holds it is the winner unless you can prove otherwise. You could always make copies of the ticket before you cash it in. You would def be nervous. One drawing is on Friday night and the state office for the claims on winning tickets is closed until Monday. Be a couple of tense days until you get your ticket verified.

In that case, if y'all don't hear from me this weekend, I'll be huddled in my basement clutching a shotgun.

Seriously though, in that case I guess it might be best to buy with a credit card so there's a record? Still, it seems really stupid to have a prize that big and not have a record besid the ticket itself.

In a cetain way it might be easier if you had to split the winnings, so you'd get less attention.

You can't buy lottery tickets on a credit card.
