Gyros

Doesn't any place make a real gyro anymore? Not those thin slivers of frozen crap eveybody sells now.

Well, real as in slice it off the leg shaped molded mix of mystery meat on the rotisserie. There really is no comparison.

What kabob places have you tried? They often have gyros as you describe. I know that Kabob Express in Centreville does, although I have only tried their boneless chicken kabobs.

Skorpios in downtown Vienna. I don't eat alot of gyros, but these are probably the best I've had. Bring your appetite, the things are huge.

I have been to the Kabob express before, won't be back. Kinda scary looking and tasting food in that buffet and I'm a little paranoid about the people there.......

Skorpios huh? Will have to try that, some funny reviews on line about the owner. There's another greek restaurant with good gyros a couple lights up from there too some reviewers said?

There's another kebab place up the road near Tysons called Lebnan Zaman. Good food, but I never tried their gyros. Not sure what greek place they're mentioning.

Attila's on Columbia Pike near the Arlington Cinema and Draft house makes some excellent Gyros. Its a Turkish place instead of Greek so the Pita is a bit thinner, but the result is great.

funny I was just asking this same gyro question last night as I ate a crappy one in Herndon at Mediterranean Breeze... Their gyro used to be ok, but not any more.

So avoid Mediterranean Breeze and also this other POS crappy restaurant called Lil' Italian Cafe in Herndon near Centreville Road. They suck ass on all levels... service sucks and food sucks...

The best used to be Marie's restaurant in Reston off of South Lakes, but they got the boot when the strip mall got an overhaul...

Skorpios in Vienna is what you're looking for. Sure, the owner is a nut-job, but I love the fucker. Just be friendly and respectful, and he'll love you.
The place down the street has better fried zucchini, but shitty gyros.

Casa De Mama in Annandale also has great gyros too. It's an Italian joint run by Asians, but all of their food is good. (well, the salads are always wet.. so that's not really that good)

Village Chicken in the same shopping center as Milano's, they also have a store on Backlick Road. Not only do they have awesome gyros but they make something called a gyro bowl which has rice, chick peas, gyro meat, feta, any veggies you want and then smothered in the cucumber sauce. Damn its only 9am and I want a gyro.

Pan Am Restaurant - near Glory Days in Pan Am shopping center...just tried this one.....good feta....sauce is a little suspect...

There is a place in Springfield/Lorton off of Backlick and Alban rd. called the Mediterranean Stop that makes them "correct" way and has a number of different Greek options. Also in Springfield on Rolling Road near Alban is an Italian place called Saratoga Pizza that makes decent gyros.

Went to see the Gyro nazi at Skorpios today, I give it a B+ only because it was properly prepared, sliced off the rotisserie and in a pita wrap. Was kind of bland. That dude is a little intense!

Saw the Reston Kabob place and the other Greek Grill near Skorpios but couldn't find the Have a Bite in Fairfax City? Is it still there?

Plaka Grill right at corner of Lawyers and 123- B+ too, pretty good but small portion of meat and chopped up. Fries were excellent though! Alot of black pepper or something on them! Tasty.

Got a NYC street vendor Gyro near ground zero a couple weeks ago, was chopped up too ? What's up with that? Had some hot sauce with it, pretty damn good for a tow behind restaurant.

Reston Kabob- C- , sucked really, looked like a burned up hot dog sitting on the 7-11 grill too long and tasted like it. pita wrap burned and fell apart, About as much meat as you could get from a small puppy though, if you want to fill up and don't care what it tastes like that's the place to go.

Found the Haveabite, will try that one soon.

There used to be a place between Crazy Horse and Key Bridge in Georgetown that sold the best Gyros around. Or maybe I was just too wasted. Would get out of the bars around 1:30 and go get one. Used to call them Magic Gyros because you wouldn't have a hangover the next day if you ate one.

+2, cosigning! The kabobs are very good too, the kubideh (sp?- ground beef one) is a little dry though, chicken and lamb are always very good! LOVE the sauces! The salads and wraps are pretty good too!

I have learned to call in your order if you plan on picking it up between 11:30-2 the lines get CRAZY!!!

Or you can walk in and order. average wait time is 15 minutes so if you only have a 30 min. or 45 min. lunch I'd call it in 15 minutes before you leave your office.

I know what I'm getting for lunch tomorrow! Also helps the guy at the counter usually is pretty cute :)
