GOOD FOR CONNOLLY!

Dear Friend,

Spending in Washington is out of control and the deficit is through the roof. Northern Virginians like you are still struggling in this difficult environment. Do you think this is the right time to give members of Congress a pay raise? I certainly don't. That is why I voted for H.R. 5146, legislation to stop an automatic pay raise for Congress.

A law passed in 1989 provided for automatic cost-of-living increases for members of Congress, regardless of the nation's fiscal situation. In the last two years, I have voted twice to block those automatic raises. The first was a vote in favor of the Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act that prohibited Congressional pay increases in 2010. The second vote, in favor of H.R. 5146, occurred on April 27, 2010, and it will stop Congressional pay raises in 2011.

Congress should be finding ways to save your tax dollars and reduce wasteful spending, rather than trying to give itself a pay raise. That is why I stood up to the House leadership and voted against the bank bailout and a $154 billion spending bill that would have increased the deficit. I have also told President Obama that his proposed budget needs to cut spending because we just can't afford it.

This is no time for Congress to give itself a pay increase and for the second time since coming to Congress in 2009, I have voted to cancel it.

After this term he will have to find a real job, hopefully not back in Fairfax, the Democrats dream aint quite what everybody thought it would be, a president with ratings falling faster than the stock market and a congress most everybody despises

It is illegal for congress to grant themselves a pay raise. However, they CAN vote to increase the pay of the next elected congress. Since the vast majority of them are re-elected, they can honestly say that they didn't vote to give themselves a pay raise since they hadn't been re-elected yet. But they all know full well that they will probably be re-elected and will receive the pay raise that they voted to give to the next elected congress which now includes them.

Though I fully support Connolly, I think this was a gimmie to Congressional members so they can tout this duing the election/re-election. Congress was never going to do this.

Only working class citizens donate to Metro.

Gerry Connolly has voted for TRILLIONS of dollars of wasteful spending. He has grabbed every penny he can get his hands on. He voted for a "health care" bill which the vast majority of Americans DON'T WANT.

NOW he talks about saving a few pennies?

Connolly is still getting a fat paycheck from SAIC for "consulting" work, so he does not care about the pittance Congress pays him.

Mr. Connolly earned every dollar of his consulting fees. We just don't give away hundreds of thousands of dollars just because he is a politician with influence over our defense and other government contracts.

There is far more that Gerry Connolly does for us.

Without Gerry Connolly, we would not have had a street named for SAIC that runs past our competitor's office. Worth it every day that I drive to work.

Without Gerry Connolly, we would not have a Metro stop being installed near our office. We would have to walk nearly a third of a mile further to the next one.

Without Gerry Connolly, we would not be able to have the same charitable fundraising events, which are also valuable social mixers for the politics of business.

i really dont think that congress should be allowed to determine their pay. there needs to be a congress oversight committee or something.
