This is the typical response from car drivers actually wish they had a 4WD on days like this.
It's funny how car drivers look at 4WD drivers with total hatred even when their driving responsibly.
Today I saw a guy stuck at a light on Main St., so I pulled over to help him. I went up to the drivers side window to talk to him and he rolled down his window, flipped me the bird and yelled "Fuck off!"
I was shocked and could see he was really freaked out, so I just got back in my SUV and pulled off.
Owning a four wheel drive vehicle does not mean one knows how to drive in inclement weather. In fact, around here, the opposite is usually true.
Personally, even though I own one, and can drive it in snow, I'll stay home and let the road crews clear the roads. I don't need to go out and I'd rather stay home where it's dry and warm.

Isnt this amazing? I'd never realized how much hostility there was against
4WD. Jealousy? Probably, but I guess it's like some other things. Some
just don't get it until they cant get out of their driveway. Even with
my 4WD, I still have no need to be on the road so I'm staying home and
planning a steak dinner with all the trimmings for my family.
Such inconvenience!
Yeah, the hybrid egg-drivers aren't content to sit at home and enjoy the couple hundred bucks of gasoline they saved over 2009. Suddenly they can't move their eggs from their nests and they grind teeth bitterly at the SUVs rumbling by to get people where they need to go.
Jealous? Not at all. It maybe the one day(maybe half day) a year in Fairfax county that a person would actually need a four wheel drive. Half the shit is closed or cancelled so there's really no point in going some place anyway.
By late tonight the road crews will have cleared the roads good enough for my BMW and I can drive to the stores with no problems tomorrow.
I have some beers and the internet. Great time relax by the fire and watch the snow fall.
OMFG ! I was driving along Prince William County Parkway going 2 miles an hour because you people down here don't know how to drive in this stuff. I'm from Buffalo and this is NOTHING! You guys are just a bunch of whips. LOL.
I have a front wheel drive car, didn't change any of my plans. You just have to stick to main roads, take it easy and change your driving style a little. There are some side streets that are impassable, but even 4wds are getting stuck on those.

I have beers and Internet too. Oh and I can go out to grocery stores and all the other open stuff if I wanted to. Or get to a hospital if I needed to, or help a doctor or nurse or neighbor get to a hospital.

That's exactly what I did today, drive doctors/nurses to INOVA Alexandria. From what I saw, it wasn't the 4WD folks clogging the roads, it was the idiots with 2WD that thought they could climb hills. The front-wheel drive folks spent most of their time spinning their wheels but not going anywhere. Rear-wheel drive folks were much more entertaining as they went from one ditch to another as they spun in circles. In fact, the only 4WD folks I saw stuck were three people in ditches on FFX Co Pkwy - far fewer than all the 2WD vehicles I saw stuck on 395, 236, Rt 1, 7100, 7900, etc.
The true moral of this story is, if you don't know what you're doing, don't go and do it. 2WD, 4WD, semi truck, snow plow, it doesn't matter - if you can't drive in the snow, stay home!
I drove my sienna fine in te snow today. If your car has front wheel drive, and you dont drive like an idiot, youll be fine. Today, I saw some moron in an xterra driving on the wrong side of a 4 lane divided road.

That SUV doesn't add inches to your cock, get over yourself you pompous douchebag.
eesh your just teh jealous and of me because your way stupider of me. i have also been driving in he snow much longer then you and most importantly i drive some SUV. you can all hail me on my way to teh hopsital. LOL!
I have owned 4WDs and front-wheel drives. If a road is plowed, they are both able to do the job. The only time I would prefer a 4WD is if I lived in an area where it took days for a snow plow to come through.

I saw so many dumbasses in front wheel drive sports cars trying to drive up hills, and getting stuck, and blocking up the whole damn road. I had to get into work, and so I left early and drove slow. And I didnt get stuck.

I could deliver sci-fi, the pretzels and the ginger ale, but Meeper will have to deliver the soup.

LOL, I brought back a few gallons of turkey stock from PA last month, it's in my freezer waiting.
I can't speak for other 4wd owners, but my Toyota Tacoma (2000) is useful all the time. The 4wd is a perk but I didn't buy it because I needed 4wd in ffx cnty. I go camping and drive to West Virginia to go skiing in the winter. Vehicle aren't always purchased for just one purpose, like commuting. Stop acting like you know the lives of everyone driving their SUVs. Unless they are asian. In that case, yeah, they don't have it for any other reason than to be a douche and should not be on the roads. Even in good conditions.

A 4WD has many uses. I agree they are worthless to have just for a commuter vehicle, but consider trips to skiing, just playing in mud, storms even less brutal than this last where people get stuck, avoid protester road blocks, and of course, a perfect way to mow down zombies when they come.
Also, no vehicle will stop short on ice, so even with 4WD, one needs to just kick it back a notch and take some time.
I saw several SUV's ditched. Anyone else see the Lexus SUV ass-end-up off Little River Turnpike? Looks like that driver tried to pull a U turn and only got to make a left and off the road and down a ditch. It was a little north of that plow truck that died across the lanes southbound.
Did that on Saturday morning. Drove over to my parents' place to help them dig out. It was nasty on Saturday. Snowing, roads are badly plowed, people are stuck everywhere.
I did have a snug grin on my face as I was videotaping the adventures.
