Fairfax Democratic Committee Head Calls for School Board Member to Resign Over Trump Tweets

WASHINGTON – The controversy over the tapes with Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump making, what many believe are offensive, statements about women hit home this week.
Sue Langley, head of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, called for conservative school board member Elizabeth Schultz to resign after Schultz tweeted the Trump tapes don’t matter.
“The fact is, if she was a private citizen, I would not care about her political views, but she is not a private citizen. Elizabeth Schultz holds an elected position in Fairfax County – a position that is supposed to be non-partisan,” Langley said in a www.bluevirginia.us article.
Schultz told WMAL even though school board members are legally required to run as independents, they make decisions that are clearly political.
She called Langley’s request political bullying and said this is a First Amendment issue.
“My Twitter account is not an FCPS account. It is my personal account, and when you have individuals who say, ‘you’re not allowed to say that,’ then you have an unraveling of the First Amendment right,” Schultz said.
She explained she was trying to convey in her Tweet that the Trump tapes don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. For her, the fact that the next president will likely appoint multiple new judges to the Supreme Court is much more important than those tapes. Even though Trump wasn’t her first or even second choice as the presidential nominee for the Republican Party, she believes he will appoint members of the Supreme Court that will defend Constitutional rights, including the Second Amendment.
“We’ve got some serious issues that are coming up in the Supreme Court, and this isn’t a four year decision, it’s a 40 year decision,” Schultz said.
Langley didn’t responded to WMAL’s emails and calls requesting comment for this article.
