Sacrificing Seniors

Reckless county planning commissioners approved the Erection of an Adults-only Homeless Shelter on the same small property of a Senior Citizens Assisted Living Center. Can’t make this s#*% up.

Most senior citizens enjoy exemption from property taxes. At present, given the lack of plans for tax relief, it is clear that they are being targeted by the proposed meals tax.

Building this homeless shelter is just another example of the shoddy treatment senior citizens receive here. Despite claims to the contrary by proponents of the meals tax, not one single senior citizen organization has come out in favor of the tax. The same parameters apply to the disabled.

The area is already a dump, why not put the homeless shelter there? Honestly, people would bitch no matter where it was. At least this part of the county is full of immigrants who don't give a shit.

Maybe, they should put it in Open Wide's neighborhood......

Fairfax County has no senior citizens. Like true carpetbaggers, they extract whatever they can, retire, and return from whence they came.

Let's face it, asshole -- all 39 cities in the Commonwealth impose a meals tax. So do about half of all Virginia counties and more than 100 of our towns. The disabled and the elderly are not being wiped out in ANY of these areas. Your ceaseless stupid slop is patently empty bullshit.

LOL! NoVa from Arlington to Winchester is increasingly becoming an upscale retirement destination. We have so many of the good things here, and so few of the bad. Might take a little more money than you pathetic assholes will ever have to live here in retirement of course, but for the more intelligent and well-to-do, this truly is a great place to set up shop.

In Hawaii they took old people and pushed them into a volcano. Perhaps Fairfax County could drill a couple volcanos and solve the senior problem.

No, they'll reserve that for housing for released sex offenders.

"Maybe the state could rewrite its slogan as "Virginia is for retirees." According to a new study by bankrate.com, Arlington, Virginia is the best place to retire, and nearby Alexandria comes in second."

http://www.nbcnews.com/business/retirement/arlington-virginia-named-best-place-retire-study-n599941

"[Third on our list] Winchester, VA -- founded in 1744 and surveyed by George Washington -- appeals to retirees who love its small-town Southern charm and big-city amenities. Old Town Winchester, the city’s recently renovated pedestrian mall, features more than 30 restaurants and bars, serving up everything from sushi to Jamaican cuisine (try the sweet Negril Sunrise coffee at Lloyd’s). On Saturdays from May through October, the Old Town Farmers Market offers produce and baked goods from area farms. One nearby farm, Holy Cow Delivery, provides home delivery of organic milk and other dairy products year-round.

In 2012, the top-rated Winchester Medical Center completed a $161 million project that expanded emergency services and added beds. Four new active-adult communities in the Winchester area offer homes and apartments at just under $300,000 to $500,000 or more. Retirees can also find one-level, single-family homes ranging from $150,000 to $250,000. Condominiums start at about $125,000. The city is walkable only for retirees who live near downtown.

Located 75 miles from Washington, D.C., Winchester experiences all four seasons, but winters aren’t as fierce as they are farther north. Every April, residents of all ages turn out for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, an 88-year-old celebration of the area’s apple-growing heritage. The area surrounding Winchester is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Residents can kayak and fish in the Shenandoah River or hike in Shenandoah National Park. Local farms feature days for you to pick your own produce, including strawberries, apples and pumpkins.

Virginia doesn’t tax Social Security benefits. It has no estate tax or inheritance tax. Seniors age 65 and older who meet income limits can deduct up to $12,000 each from state income taxes."

In Fairfax County? I don't believe that. I would be interested to see what percentage does though. 100, 50 and 25 percent relief...wonder if they have those statistics?

Every one will Sacrifice 16 K a year with inflation that will harm seniors the worst. Rents will sky rocket..Housing costs and more. There will be layoffs and unemployment. Retired people all over America are getting by with 20 K a year on Social Security.. whos giving them a raise? The 16k is the difference between the current MIN Wage and what libs want, 33 k a year for a single dishwasher..The Feds should never touch Min wages. leave it to the States. What a good Min Wage in Fargo N.D and whats good in NYC are two different things

About as much depth as a Cosmo article picking the hottest Kardashian.

If you end up retiring in NoVA, you've failed.

Many retire-in-place folks think the same way. I didn't think we could afford to retire here, but when the big day came and we hadn't made any other plans (except for moving in with the kids if we had to), we pretty quickly found out differently. Lots of costs (especially insurance) actually do go down when you retire, so what you've got salted away for it goes further than what you might have expected. Medicare helps out as well. And once you stop driving in rush hour, you realize that the roads and traffic are actually pretty good. So it's not exotic or tropical or adventurous or anything like that, but our friends and family are all here, so are our doctors, and we still get to go to the same church. So far so good. We're going to stick it out here for a while. Hopefully, a long while.

So the Seniors at the assisted living center will live out their twilight years with a homeless shelter in their parking lot? Lousy.

The idea is that as the seniors pass on, the authorities plan to begin giving their housing over to the homeless. The "Transition" housing idea is to get them off the streets as space becomes available wherever they can find it.

You can vote in whoever you want, but you can't ever be assured they have any brain or even common sense. They are good little patsys, they just do what their daddy NWO handlers above them in the pyramid tell them to do.

Majority behavior is not necessarily correct behavior. But, given that you are clearly a totalitarian, demanding unthinking obedience to the government, that's hard for you to understand. You would do very well in North Korea. Here, in the USA, however, criticism of the government is allowed.

At least one charity serving seniors has a very well thought out plan to transport seniors to polling stations to vote against the meals tax. What organized support is there FOR the meals tax? A handful of band parents?

The planning commission is not an elected body so what qualifies any of them for their position? This place looks like hell and the traffic being created by unfettered development is intolerable. Their decision to put a homeless shelter at a nursing home is insane.

Several major medical groups serving the elderly and disabled are handing out their own flyers telling their patients to vote against the meals tax.

They have partnered with patient transportation companies to make sure these individuals can get to the polls.

One area psychiatrist, noted for his work with the elderly, has indicated that regular meals out help the elderly from becoming depressed and isolated. He fears that the tax will deter them from doing this, which will have negative consequences.

A regional work supporting the disabled is involved as well. They are concerned that the County has made NO plans to extend current tax relief efforts to the elderly and disabled, despite the fact that tax relief is supposedly part of the program. A social worker with this organization also noted the long term therapeutic value of going out to eat. Given that many disabled individuals are on fixed incomes, even the "modest surcharge" (as the tax has been called by its proponents) could be a problem.

But, given Pat Hynes' frothing attacks on opponents of this tax, the brochure will not be printed here.

Nonetheless, the medical community of Fairfax calls on voters to turn out on November 8 not only to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice, but also to vote against this tax.
