Ron's Collector's World in Annandale (Columbia Pike) in the strip mall with the Silverado has a pretty good selection. The store is run by Ron's brother Vinny, and they also have a great selection of sports stuff.

Hole In The Wall Books in Falls Church (West Broad Street) is a tiny little run down building with a good selection of comics and graphic novels. Its a used rare book store, but the staff was really friendly.

The worst comic store has to be the Safeway on Westfields Blvd in Centreville. It's so horrible that they're closing it down at the end of the month.

I miss Geppi's Comics in Crystal City. It was the best, but I think they moved to Maryland. I also miss Joe's Books and Comics in Burke, where is where I went most often.

For shits and giggles, call Comic and Card Collectorama in Alexnadria and listen to the guy's voice.

I went there one time back in 1997 and the store looked like it was stuck in the early 70's including the owner.

There was that store in Sterling, off of sterling Blvd across from the golf course. The clapped out old hippie with the asthmatic cough ran the place. It was a really good comic store but I havent been there in years So I dont know if its still around.

I have never been to Hole in the Wall Books but I did once find a hole in the stall of a local restroom. I put me weiner in it and found it was the most mind blowing experience. It felt like someone had placed their anus near the hole on the other side. Weird shit for sure.

I remember the place in sterling. It moved from just off route 28 the sterling annex or the rickety old attic loft building to that place off sterling Blvd. Had a really good selection but yeah the owner was a creepy old man.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it was called Fantasy Five and Dime. I used to go there way back in the late '80s.

The owner was Jem - when I used to go to the Sterling store, back in early to mid 80s, I was in my early to mid teens. Jem (the owner - pronounced "Jim") seemed older to me at the time, but I would guess he was probably in his mid to late 30s. Kind of a hippy dude, but pretty cool. I never found him creepy at all.

The store was moved to Herndon, but I think it was sold out later. Wish I knew whatever happened to that dude. I remember the commedian Patton Oswalt (who lived in Sterling) used to go there as a kid, too. He mentioned Jem and the store in one of his blogs a while ago, but I can't find the blog entry anymore.

Ogre, you should have used this pic:

I like The Laughing Ogre, that's the one in the shopping center across from GMU. Big Planet in Vienna is also okay, but so small.

Anyone remember Phoenix in Herndon? True story: I called this one employee Comic Shop Guy because he essentially was, minus a beard, a ponytail, and about 50 pounds. One day, this little kid, like maybe 4 years old, walked up and timidly asked about a comic that had a 25% off sticker on it. He asked if it was only a quarter, and Comic Book Guy said in the nastiest tone "UH, NO, it's twenty-five percent off, NOT TWENTY-FIVE CENTS. PFFT." What. A. Tool.

Anyhow, that shop closed and moved to Landsdowne. That reminds me, right before they moved, I was having an indoor-voice A-B conversation between me and my husband, and I said that Landsdowne was kind of far to go for comics. From behind a shelf about 10 feet behind us, I heard in an outdoor voice "UH, it's not THAT far away. PFFT."

Speaking of TOOLS, if that is the same Joe that had the baseball card shop in Burke 20-25 years ago, he was one of the "Worst Tools Ever". I went in there 1 time and never went back. There was a kid, maybe 6-7 years old, pulling cards out of a binder. He took the stack up to good ol' Joe and asked how much they were. Joe went off on the kid and started ranting about how there was a sign saying NOT to remove the cards from the binders. The price of each card was marked in the binder so now Joe had to look them all up again in the price guide. I understood his disgust but it was also a 6-7 year old.....

Yeah, the dudes that ran Pheonix Comics over in Herndon were all a bunch of Comic Book Guy clones, right down to the craving to be rude to all customers. I went there for a few years and was 3rd party to more than a few "HRRRGH YOU FOOLS" moments.

My favorite one was the kid who knocked down one of the statues and the bigass clerk, in this singsong voice, goes "You breaaaak it you booought it" and immediately starts plugging numbers into the cash register. Kid is crying, Kid's dad is all facepalmy and the clerk gives goes all SUPER SRS and says loudly "That's the reason you should ALWAYS watch your child." What a winner.

I travel for a living and have had the opportunity to visit many comic book shops in the Midwest and the eastern part of the united states.

The worst is a place near me in Grafeild Hts., Ohio. The place was a dirty shit hole. The long boxes were placed on the floor and you would have to kneel to look through them.

The best was some place in Elwood city , PA. The place was huge, sold older books at a discount. The place put sets together, a marketing idea that seems to behoove everyone else in the comic shop buiz.

I was in midtown comics in NY City. It was ok, I was expecting a lot more. It had everything, three floors, people willing to help. I don't know what I was expecting. Maybe I was in a shitty mood. I don,t know.

There is a place in buffalo, NY. Queen city comics, that is cool. There is a hippie that runs a comic book shop in board man/Warren Ohio that is a good guy. There is a guy who runs a shop in Parma, Ohio. That is a nice guy.

The guy I buy my comics from on wensesday in mentor Ohio, is basically a good guy. The shop is on my way home from work so it is convenient.

The thing I do not understand about most of the people in the comic shop buiz is: you would think these guys are sitting on gold. You ask a guy if there are any discounts and he says no. I'm the only guy in the shop and the guy is unwilling to give me any break. So I walk out with my money in my pocket and he gets to hang on to his overpriced copies of the flash from the 70's for another 20 years. By then the long boxes that he over filled will pulverize the books to dust.

Some times I say that's your prerogative. Sometimes I say you surely have figured a way to take this stuff to the gave with yo.
