The show was broadcast on national television. I recognized Kennelly when I went into the store and notified management. As a retired police officer due to injuries suffered in the line of duty at the Pentagon on 09/11/01, I thought that it was shameful that Kennelly was working for an establishment founded by heroic fireman. Kennelly probably lied on his application indicating that he had never been arrested, which lead to his dismissal. There is no violation of any law other than the violations of children that Mr. Kennelly has performed. Please do not quote the law Mr. Mephisto unless you know what you are talking about. Maybe Kennelly is a friend of yours?

Concerned Parent, no reason to resort to attacks because people are raising legit questions. Just because (as I believe) your behavior is falling within the right boundaries doesn't mean people have no right to question it. This helps keep it in check... but if you're a retired detective I don't have to tell you that.

I can't find the guy in the DB either, and all of this vigilante guy's other activities are quite legal, if not the sign of someone who is a bit obsessive. I think the Michael Vick rules applies here... the guy should be allowed to earn a living if he did his time. I have a problem with "baiting" these guys as well. Yes, they arrived at what they thought was a kid's house for the purpose of sex. However, the imaginary kid initiated most of the ideas.

If an 18 year old girl, real or otherwise, met someone in his 30's in a chat room and proceeded to have a sexually explicit conversation that ended with an invitation to come over for sex, nobody would have a problem with that. He's probably even get a few high-fives from his buddies.

What Kennelly did was disgusting, but non-violent. It's not like he broke in with the intent to rape the kid. Parents can avoid the "my teenage child invites adults to our home for sex" by being responsible parents, monitoring internet usage, etc.

I'm in no way defending Kennelly's actions, but I disagree with making someone who's already been punished for his crime and publicly humiliated lose their job. Desperation only worsens a person's mental state, and not having a job gives him more free time to think about his sick fantasies.

I think, in the vast majority of cases, they are trolling, i.e., actively looking for an underage sex partner.

That said, I watched about half of one of those Predator shows, with grim fascination, before turning the channel, as there's something a bit sick about the whole thing - a voyeuristic aspect combined with Hansen's smarmy attitude. Ugh.

I think he has the right to hold a job, but his employer also has the right to know the background of the people they have working and representing their establishment. Then they can make the decision if they want that person working there or not. It's not like Concerned Parent told them anything that wasn't public record.

Well, if company/owner chooses not to thoroughly vet your prospective employees then that's the risk you are taking.

I'm not defending that pervert. Personally, as a parent, I think the guy is a low life scum who I hopes goes to jail and gets a shank in the neck. But would anybody here like it if - hypothetically - I walked into your place of business (which didn't check your background) and told your boss about your burglary convictions, your possession with intent to distribute charges, or whatever skeletons you have in your closet that may affect your ability to hold that job and eek out a living? I agree with what Mephisto said. The more I watched of To Catch A Predator the more uneasy I got with it as I began to realize they were setting up unrealistic scenarios for the potential predators and as such were mostly netting gullible lonely guys and pervs and not hardcore pedophiles.

I dunno... I am just as glad they busted those dudes and feel zero sympathy for anything done to them. Without a doubt all of those guys wanted to have sex with a kid and were super-bold about it. Who knows where rewarding that boldness could lead.

First of all most applications don't ask if you have ever been arrested, just if you have been convicted of a felony in the last five years. In some States it's illegal to ask about prior arrests, not sure about virginia as I have never looked it up.

Second I have been eating at Firehouse Twice a week since they opened (sometimes lunch and sometimes dinner) and I have never seen this pervert. So when exactly was he working there ?

Oh wow! My daughter got her workers permit and went to the Movies there as well as that establishment & noodle frequently. I am the Author of sharing my own true story as a victim, now I advocate for kids and help them as well as adults get through the healing process.
