It appears that the critics and Doubting Thomases on this site were wrong.

Caboose Brewing, which opened a brewery and restaurant in Vienna one year ago, has signed a lease to open a 6,000-square-foot brewing facility in the Mosaic District in Fairfax. Construction will begin this fall, and an opening is expected in early 2017.

I've heard great reviews of the place. Portions are a little small. All the craft breweries are making a killing around the area.

They're kind of late to the party and this whole trend is getting kind of played out by now. Likely outcome is that it will follow the same pattern as most others - over-spend and then fail. But then NoVA tends to lag as far as such things go so they probably have a while to run yet.

They're opening another in Merrifield. Great place, great drinks!

Not surprising considering Caboose's connections.

I don't think the bubble can take all this though. There are several breweries opening in the next 6 months around here. I don't think the market can support it, but maybe it will. Who knows. There are plenty of shitty restaurants that somehow continue to stay open so we'll see. More power to the locals making their own mark though.

Look at the number of pizza places.

The craft breweries are like pizza places. Plenty can exists because people like different types and flavors. Trying different ones is part of the experience.

Well, first off, their beer is not very good. But in the poseur world that is Vienna and those places accessible to the W&OD trail, their patrons don't seem to mind too much. I have heard that the food is good, so hopefully they have that going for them.

I predict an overall short life, even though the head brewer supposedly has some pretty good credentials.

Go back to Falls Church.

Um, no one of standing or stature would be envious of junior-grade, grunt-work, wage-slave paupers who live on tiny lots in aging shacks and shanties while enjoying a paucity of local shopping and dining options, basically needing to lie through their teeth in order to have anything at all positive to say about their sorry-ass lives and locales.

I predict they'll do just fine in the Mosaic District. It seems to be a prime place to make a buck. But Chris Mallon actually had no experience as a brewmaster when he was brought in by the boys at Caboose. He had however risen to the level of senior brewer in his eight years at the successful Heavy Seas microbrewery up in Baltimore.

No way!!
'V. Enna' is the super genius beer and restaurant critic.
He knows waaaay more than anyone at the Great American Beer Festival where Chris has won 8 medals. And the World Beer Cup where Chris has one 5 medals. And Eden that is leasing the space to them in the Mosaic.

V. Enna told Budweiser to change their name to America.

Son, I don't think you know what a 'caboose' is.
It's your butt.

Unless you're into some kind of kinky shit with ladies wearing dildos, you'll wanna stick to the men's room.

I'm the lady. Or at least that is how I feel. Especially when I have to poop!

I agree, the beers are not that great. The guy may have won metals at his previous employer but he should have tried to have a few great beers instead of having a huge list of mediocre beers. Just my opinion.

Go back to your make-believe world, little boy. The one where Falls Church is nice and a Town Car isn't. LOL!!!

Let's see which of the Caboose beers, and when, earns a medal at the GABF. I hear that their Vanilla Porter is pretty good, but I have not had it. The rest are simply mediocre at best.

I acknowledged that the guy in charge of brewing had something of a reputation prior to joining Caboose. He simply is not turning out good beers there.

So, DgDerp, tell us what skin you have in the game that you felt the need to engage in an ad hominem attack. Are you afraid that my generally negative review of their products is going to adversely affect your bottom line?

My main point is that, with the plethora of local breweries that now exist in the area, more and more craft beer drinkers are being more discerning about their beer consumption. The days of "this is locally brewed" as being a proxy for "this is really good beer" are over.
