Meadow Hall's unfortunate sign
Date: June 01, 2009 09:29AM

Corner of Meadow Hall & Monroe St., south of Herndon.

Who picked this sign? Stone, check. Nice font, check. Cheap cinderblock supports, check. Looks like a poorly-installed headstone, check.

Paraphrasing: "You can come home any time you like, but you can ...never leave!"

It's sad enough to see when the weather is nice, but when it's wet out... :-<

I don't know what I'm looking at here. I don't see anything strange about it.

It does look like a tombstone with cinder blocks holding it up. It also looks like you wasted your time because nobody cares.

Oh.

I think it looks kind of neat, except for the cinder blocks.

It's entirely possible it is being held in place until the landscaper has time to come out and set some footings for it. It appears to be just standing on the dirt. I imagine they will pour some concrete with some re-bar for it.

at least it will be easy to decorate for Halloween. some fake blood and maybe a zombie arm coming up out of the dirt.

Actually I think its been held up by two of those sign twirlers you see on saturday afternoons on major roads like Rte 29 or Rte 7.

This is clearly the thread everybody has been waiting for, the rocket scientists who post on a regular basis have definitly run out of things to bitch about.

You know $10,000 of hard paid association dues went towards that.

Another reason to hate HOAs.

It's the Herndon\Oak Hill area. That area is nothing but beaners and white trash.

the most unfortunate (unless you like humor) sign in fairfax is the one on Springvale Road just after you cross Rte 7. its an 'adopt a highway sign'. i'd always thought 'the dark realm of the camarillo' or whatever was the oddest i'd seen in virginia. turns out The ANALEMMA SOCIETY adopted a highway, too. who is emma, and how much of a ho do you have to be to have a whole society devoted to your sexual proclivities?!!!

So many times I have wanted to lay a wreath on it. Maybe stick some candles or a few rocks on it. It truly is a miserable neighborhood entry sign.

It would look much nicer if set in brick, or if there was a border, or *something*.

Wow! That could be the setting for a low budget flick. Can I be the token female who shrieks, makes a lame attempt to run, then stumbles and falls?

Oh, then there could be the jittery run through the corn field across the street....

Ya know, I never noticed the cinder blocks until this morning.

I would love to see the owl pop out and wave randomly as I drove home.

In plenty of time for Halloween: since the last posting on this, they've bricked around the bottom of the sign, landscaped around it, and have added (very bright!) lighting. Looking less like a tombstone now.

It's Herndon. What do you want?! Years ago during a few housing booms they threw up neighborhoods overnight so any asshat with a paycheck could buy a single family with vinyl siding and no garage.
It's only a matter of time before an intoxicated illegal runs off the road and takes the sign out. Then you'll have your chance to replace it with your own masterpiece. Better get started chipping away at some granite.
