This is just a taste of the waste that the school board is capable of. Over half a million dollars for these three, and what do they do besides beg for more money?

All of these contracts should be terminated for cause.

Anyone foolish enough to re-elect McElveen or Moon is stark, raving mad.

Make that 3/4 million $ between the car, the computer/cell/data plan, housing allowance, etc.

Here is the other end of the spectrum. This is supposedly an hourly employee. Doesn't even look like a correct contract. $100, in three quarterly payments. This contract is designed for people taking on coaching jobs, yearbook sponsor, music teacher, etc., which get a salary supplement specifically stipulated by the School Board due to the extra duties they have. This employee helps out a Band director at West Potomac HS. Her salary is supposedly paid by a Booster club. Unless she makes over $10,000 a year, detailed pay records don't have to be made available. Interesting arrangement. I would think there would be some type of contract specifically for hourly employees.

They originally didn't want to release this. Said it was exempt from disclosure. Really bad move there. D-E-N-I-A-L. Then they said this person "didn't have a contract", in spite of having an FCPS email account. A lawyer told a lawyer that, no less. Did the person who said this wonder how this employee could get an FCPS email account and be allowed to deal with student records without a contract of some type? I sure did.

Then, this contract arrived. The contract that "didn't exist". What?

All employment contracts are open record unless there is some type of contract dispute.

Want anybody else's? Easy to do.

Apart from Tammy's pretty signature, what a pile of dog shit this contract is.

And, I'll bet if you ask questions no one will bother to answer them.

VOTE OUT THE SCHOOL BOARD.

No. The contract is for $100 total. In 3 payments of $33, $33, and $34.

It is a rather novel idea. This employee helps with administrative duties and the parent group pays for it supposedly. It sounds like the $100 is a token amount of money to secure the position. Does this come from appropriated funds? Do the Boosters reimburse the taxpayers for this? Don't know. I just don't think this should be set up with this type of contract. I asked to see the contract between the school system and the parent group outlining the agreement and "there wasn't any". Very odd......

Yes. Three payments, one per approximate quarter. November, March, June. Total of $100. Not blind.

I think there should be an explanation as to why a lawyer would tell another lawyer that there wasn't any contract, and why this was denied in the first place.

......and why there isn't some type of agreement between the school system and the parent group.

I think this kind of work is what the contract is for. The November/March/June schedule is mentioned. These people also get a fourth payment.

This employee isn't an "Assistant Marching Band Director" as the contract says and as the Notice refers to. She is presented as an "assistant to the Band Director". Does admin work.

Interesting concept. I didn't know you could do this. There should be a written agreement between the parents and the school system.

What eloquence, must be from Shakespeare or maybe Joni Mitchell.

But let's turn from English to math. With all the FCPS shortfalls and spending plans, there are really only two choices. Fairfax County can give all tax money to the schools or taxes can go up. How much? Double is not a bad guess. The other option, of course, is common sense in spending and planning, but that seems so unlikely.

I don't understand. What precisely is your problem with this? What additional bureaucratic hoops do you recommend FCPS should have to go through? Is it possible the wording was intended to be Assistant *TO* Marching Band Director? Should someone be fired now for a typographical error or grammatically inaccurate wording?

Something with "hourly employee" on it would probably help.

What a stupid question. My company uses hourly employees all the time. This contract is a joke. Look at how many people signed this thing.

I believe much of her job is only accomplished through a donation of time and labor on her part; the stipend is so low as compared to the time worked as to be insulting.

If she kept an hours log, she'd be out of a job. (Of course, if the teachers were paid by the hour, the county would be in worse shape than it already is in.)

So, are the Boosters paying her under the table is the question. Is the $100 just to buy her way into an Fcps email account?

What kind of car did the school board give Karen?

Finally... everyone is afraid to say what they really think. The details of this contract are quite inconsequential. It is bureaucratic nonsense and trivia. The real reason is that there is a continuing "war" on ANY parent volunteer and especially ANY band booster involvement at FCPS. The objection to this "contract" is not because it is not "properly" formatted or constructed - it is because band boosters are involved in any way.

What evidence does anyone have that the band boosters are not reimbursing the school for that $100?

The contract actually says:

Assistant March Band Diretor.

If this dear soul is an employee she should have a proper contract and be realistically paid for her time. There are such things as labor laws. If she is a volunteer then don't give her a county e-mail account. Strange arrangement.

This was noted. An actual Assistant Marching Band director is paid about $3,000 as a salary supplement. They are an actual teacher. Strange situation.
