Im for it. Top golf attract non-golfers, new golfers, fair weather golfers and pro golfers .It would be better usage of the current facility. It's a fun atmosphere everyone who goes to enjoys. The county would never be able to run such a place and concessions on parkland is nothing new. Quite often people go to top golf and enjoy the food service while their friends play a few rounds, you don't get that at other driving ranges.

Exactly right. The Topgolf shills don't know what a driving range is or is supposed to be. They're not looking at it as golf but as a D&B-like entertainment center. Which it is, as apparent from typical reviews:

"Delicious appetizers, great food, cold drinks, and oh yeah--there's also golf!"
"Delicious food and outstanding service."
"Good is good, the games are fun, and it's great for groups."

Top Golf looks like a lot of fun, but it just seems peculiar to put it at Burke Lake. My primary concern would be parking.

@2 cents: They're going to increase the amount of parking. If you read the proposal, they want to pave some of the green space.

The reason I like the Burke Lake Golf Range is that it's a range where you go and work on your game without a lot of distractions and or frills. I'm not trying to get on tour or anything but, even for recreational players the game requires consistent play and practice.

TopGolf is a place where bro-dude-buddies who may likely never set foot on a golf course go to drink beer and yell and give each other high 5's when someone manages to hit a driver past 125 yards all while listening to bad 90's grunge rock and getting hassled by small busted waitresses who think they're special serving over-priced warmed over food.

Was intrigued at first but now I'm kind of against it. I don't like the idea of adding two new parking lots and I can't get a clear idea of how it will affect the cross country teams that practice and race there.

I'd also be annoyed if that was my usual driving range and now my price was going to double or triple for a bucket of balls. Top golf is fun and it has its place but I don't think that place is Burke lake.

The fact is this was an unsolicited bid. The county was already planning on upgrading the existing driving range and golf course. Top Golf is just trying to get in on an existing tract of land for cheap.

Top golf belongs in a commercial area. Burke Lake is not a commercial area.

Alcohol seems to be a primary focus at Top Golf. No prude, but I would be uncomfortable with drunk people driving and hanging around the park. I don't believe that Burke Lake currently allows drinking. It just seems inconsistent with a family oriented recreational facility.

Id be in favor of keeping the park a park rather than a commercial golf venture. The lake is one of the few pieces of nature close to the beltway why put a crappy commercial entertainment facility there? Hell you could put a Top Golf in an industrial park you dont need to crapify one of our few halfway decent natural attractions in that area of Fairfax. This reeks of TransUrban...

What about light pollution? There are camping sites in burke lake. With top golf the place will look like one giant parking lot with all the lights. Bad idea.

I use the Burke Lake Park driving range during the warm weather and Top Golf during the winter. Both have their good points, but a Top Golf like joint in at the Park is a non-starter. It does not fit the surrounding environment.
