New BYOD Registration Process
Did you know that students are required to register with FCPS their personal computers, phones and other devices that connect to the internet if those devices are used on school property?
FCPS is currently implementing a new self-registration process that auto-directs devices to a secure, pre-determined network during the registration process. Once connected, students will have access to FCPS resources on their personal devices. The process is very simple. Anyone with a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) device can simply choose FCPSonboard from their personal device to gain access to the wireless network. The screen prompts will guide them through the process of configuring the wireless network on their device. BYOD users will only be required to complete the registration process one time per school year.
This automated solution will: 1) make BYOD registration more efficient for school staff as they no longer have to manually register devices, 2) ensure that FCPS can account for each and every student device that accesses the FCPS network, 3) provide for better data collection of BYOD devices on the FCPS network, 4) improve data for recovering lost or stolen BYOD devices, and 5) improve network security and control.
Students requiring assistance registering their device should see their school technology support team.
Student participation in BYOD is governed by the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) document. Parents and students are required to read and accept the Acceptable Use Policy for Student Network Access within the SR&R document. BYOD permission is now acknowledged by signing the parent and/or guardian signature sheet within Students Rights and Responsibilities .
