I am appalled by the comments on this open forum. Before you go posting online about how it was all the teenagers' fault. I am disgusted. They were not standing outside of their car. Cars have issues all the time. The boys were picked up from a party by a 19 year old whose brother was one of the boys at the party. They called for a ride. they did everything right. they pulled over. they waited for someone to bring them gas or for someone to pick them up. they did nothing wrong. they are seniors in high school. were you ever out at 2 am? im sure you were. i can not believe the disgusting comments that people have made on this forum. its so obvious that you have never lost a person tragically and for that im really happy. i hope that you can stay as ignorant as you are nonw to be able to blame the innocent victims. I hope that you can sleep well tonight because i surely cant knowing that I can't ever hug my friend again and that i will never see his smile or hear his laugh ever again.

Why did they get hit......because they were stopped on the shoulder of 495.

Why were they on the side of the road disabled......because the car ran out of gas.

Why did the car run out of gas....because the owner/driver failed to put any gas in the tank.

So when you connect the dots, there are reasons why this happened. About 95% of the blame belongs to the drunk driver. But the driver of the disabled car put everyone in a dangerous position. I dont know what year the Honda was, but almost all cars now have a warning light that comes on which tells you GET GAS NOW! I dont know how far he had to drive to pick them up but there are gas stations everywhere in the DC/MD/VA area. It's not like this happened out in Rappahannock county in the boonies.

I have been in a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the beltway in the middle of the afternoon and I was scared shitless. We got out and got over the wall. And plenty of cars on the shoulder of 495 have been hit by completely sober drivers.

Bottom line: the drunk driver caused the crash but the driver of the disabled car put everyone in danger by not getting gas for whatever reason.

Looked up Casesearch on Margaret Baisley and four days later no charges have been filed against her. Why is that - are we jumping to conclusions again with the driver and using the "Guilty until proven innocent" analysis that has perpetrated this thread?

"Baisley displayed signs of being impaired, police said."

That's all we know. That doesnt say the driver was drunk. Altho I agree "impaired" is almost always associated with DUI, we dont know the facts.

Why were these under aged kids calling for a designated driver?

Once again we live in a "Victim" society that makes assumptions without facts. I know one fact, kids who think they are mature, but not, were out late and ran out of gas due to a lack of good judgment. Shame someone dies because of it.

Lots of folks are putting the blame on Andy May. He had two good credit cards on him but he decided not to stop for gas even though the low fuel light had been on for some time. He is going to have to live with himself now and that is going to be very hard.

Ideally they will release both toxicology reports.

Never stay with your car if you are stranded on the side of the road. You are a sitting duck if you do - you'd be surprised how many cars veer onto shoulders because they are playing on their phone or drunk. Instead, get out of the car and get as far from the roadway as possible, preferably with a guardrail between yourself and the roadway. I have no idea what the situation was in this case - perhaps the occupants had no safe place to go if they got out. But being inches from an interstate is never a good place to be, especially at night.

I stumbled across this feed as I was looking for updates about the boys involved in this crash, as I have done every year since it occurred. My husband and I were there. We helped the victims while we waited for police and EMTs to arrive. Seeing the loss of life, one so young, never leaves you.

The boys were not out partying or any of the other garbage said here. They were on their way home from a practice and they ran out of gas. The father of two of the boys was on his way to them with gas. They were not drunk or high, they were sitting in their car because they assumed it was safer. That highway id next to the woods and extremely dark, I may have done the same in their position.

The impaired driver was under the influence, but she was not charged woth manslaughter on the request of the parents of Dom, the young boy who died. Perhaps it would serve many of you well to not form opinions without all the facts, but I suppose that's too much to ask in this day and age.

If you are ever stuck on the side of the highway, GET AWAY FROM THE CAR AND GO UP INTO THE TREES, INTO THE FIELD, somewhere away from the car! Cars sitting on the side of the road get hit by speeding cars ALL THE TIME, ask a cop or a tow truck driver. I've read several times in this thread that they were doing the right thing, waiting in the car. NOT TRUE - GET OUT SAFELY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND GET AWAY FROM THE CAR.

What was she under the influence of? Was she charged with anything? DUI? It's not up to the parents of the victim whether or not she was charged with anything. I find it very hard to believe that she was driving under the influence of something, killed someone, and faced no charges.
