Mclearen Road

We moved to western Fairfax in 1990, but I was working at Tyson's at the time and there wasn't much west of what is now the Fairfax County Parkway (which was only open up to West Ox anyway), so I didn't really head out that way.

Now I find myself wondeing when Mclearen was cut through from West Ox to Centreville, and same for the section from Centreville to 28. I know RCMS didn't open until 1998; was that when the road opened? Anyone remember? Spent some time Googling but didn't find anything.

McLearen Rd used to connect from present day intersection of McLearen and West Ox Rd- Eastward to where Fox Mill Shopping Center is now near Reston Parkway/Lawyers Rd. It was never paved and was dirt. Closed in the 70's for newer road construction. Do a satellite view of present day road and you can still see where McLearen used to intersect with Lawyers Rd headed East toward Fairfax/Route 50.

The section between 28 and Centreville Rd. has been there since the 1980's at least. Redskins Park used to be back there off Towerview Rd.on Redskins Dr., and the EDS Drive "Horseshoe" came later when EDS built a Data Center there prior to the bigger Office building -- now HP since they bought out EDS.

Originally, there were to be 2 Data Centers and 6 Office buildings for EDS all between McLearen and Wall Rd. EDS owned all the property between 28 and Centreville Rd, and McLearen and Wall Rd.

HP didn't see a need for it, so that is why the soccer fields along Centreville are being developed. EDS let Ffx. Co. use the property, HP Sold it.

The construction was underway a bit before RCMS opened - the post office was built alongside the road. 98 - 00 is my best guess. Used to be a fun place to hang out and cause trouble for all the neighborhood kids.

Lol, desirability means price per square foot. Chantilly, Centreville, and Southern Herndon all have some of the lower end of prices per square foot compared to McLean, Fairfax, Vienna, and Clifton. So no its not one of the most anything, at best it is around the average.

This part of South Herndon (Oak Hill) is not a bad spot at all. 65% white and 30% Asian. For price per square foot, you get good value for money in terms of nice houses, good neighborhoods and amenities. Place is often overlooked because it's associated with the dodgy parts of Herndon north of the Dulles toll road. It's no McLean though, but obviously you don't have to pay McLean prices to live there.

Its OK. The schools are going downhill and the HOA's are comprised of hysterical jackasses, but the area itself is fine.

your supposed to check planned roads and zoning changes before you buy a place (assuming your not renting)

and no, they aren't allowed to hide it
