Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I moved to NOVA (Fairfax) back in August from Wisconsin.
I like it so far but the one thing that really pisses me off is the fact that I can't find a decent place to grab a good sub/sandwich.
There's the big chains like Subway and Quizno's...both of which I really don't care for. Then there's Coggers and Big Belly which are both pretty much the same and terrible imo (skimpy and overpriced).
Sadly there is no Jimmy Johns, Ebert & Gerberts or Schlotzsky's Deli's.
I just can't find a decent sandwhich...any suggestions?
5876 Washington Blvd. (703) 237-1552
Small pub with pizzas and sandwiches. Some vegetarian items. Large selection of imported and domestic, locally brewed beers. They can be bought to take away. Fri-Sat 11am - midnight / Sun 11am-10pm
Well I used to work at a pretty popular deli - Bozzelli Deli. They've moved from their old location on the corner of Telegraph and Route 1 but now they have a location on Backlick road.
Here's their info:
6691 Backlick Rd
Springfield, VA 22150-2702
Phone: (703) 451-6411
They also have a location on Ft. Belvior if you're able to go on base.
Plus my boyfriend and I really like a place called Yahoo Deli on the corner of Beulah Rd. and Telegraph.
their info:
6420 Landsdowne Ctr
Lorton, VA 22079
Phone: (703) 339-8400
Industriarts,
It would seem that nothing here is to your liking so you have the option of buying the ingredients and preparing your sandwhich to your specifications. Besides that, there is not much you can do.

If that doesn't scream "moderate these forums" then I don't know what does.
ben,
If we can't be ourselves, who can we be? Personally, if I could be someone else, I would do so but I can't. I'm just saying censorship is evil... unless you are doing the censoring and then it's fucking great! I think we should have more of an "age filter" so you can filter out all the dumbasses that only contribute "dick and fart jokes." The other option is to hunt these people down and kill them. Notify me if you wish the latter, I would love to help.
That was the most off-point rant I've ever seen. I just happen to think that if this is going to amount to anything, the trolling needs to die down. That's all.
I forgot Main St. Bagel...great bagel sammitch there and I forgot all about it.
And about a block away from there is Shorty's Deli; a lotta people tell me it's good.
Celebrity Deli has the best reubens around, they practically melt in your mouth. Also they have something called the "arm buster" just ask about it from the "old menu" ive been eating that for the past 20 years...its awesome. its in falls church in loehmans plazy by Falls church highschool
just across the Occoquan in PWCO on 123 is Sportsters Steaks. Owner is from Jersey, near Philly. She makes the best damn cheesesteaks and hoagies in the area. I'm from Philly and I haven't found anyone even close around here that can come close to a steak sandwich like she can. $6.50 for a half and $13 for a whole. Her steack sandwiches are huge. You will barely be able to finish the large. It's next to the 7-11. You won't be disappointed. She is closed on Wednesdays.
In Franconia, on Franconia Rd near Beulah is Franconia Pizza. Pretty good pizza/sub shop and easy on the wallet.
There are a few Schlotzky's here and there, but why there's so much hype surrounding them I have no idea....I've never found their sandwiches particularly good.
I went to the Randolph Deli in Sully Plaza for a long time....good stuff. Haven't been there in a while so for all I know they're gone.
Philadelphia Mike's in Sully Plaza is also pretty good if you're into cheesesteaks.

I have to second this, Hunter Mill is great. Panera is good too but more uppity than Hunter Mill, which is more like a real deli.
We love Elie's Delie at University Mall right across from GMU on Braddock Road. Also on 236 in Fairfax City is West Coast Deli by the Western Pest Control place near Office Depot. Their sandwiches are really good.
Randolf deli in chantilly is good. I worked there for 4 weeks about 10 years ago, then he nixed his evening hours.
Bagel Buddies in Fair Lakes is great. I eat there at least once or twice a week.
Hunter mill is also good.
Schlotzsky's reminds me of airport terminal food, mostly because I usually hit it when I fly back from Austin. It is only marginally better then the shit they put on bread at other airport terminal eateries

Reston I view this site frequently, but never post. But it seems to me that everytime you post something, it has to be negative. You can be a real jerk. You are a big contributor to this site, but that doesn't give you the right to be a jerk all the time. You need to relax.
I second the motion for Pica Deli, the sandwiches are great. Staff can be somewhat slow and a little surly, but the food is a real treat.
Rubino's (used to be Mr. Hero) over in the clocktower plaza in Herndon also whips up a few very-above-average subs.
There's a place called The Deli in Herndon, same center as the K-Mart on Sunset Hills, that makes an awesome italian sub (I'm originally from Philly, so I take these sorta things seriously), they do it right. Pricey but worth it, you'll know where the extra 2-3 bucks went.
And at the top of the list- The Italian Store in Arlington. I go there when I miss home. It's perfect.

Why does someone reply to someone who replied to a thread that is 8 years old?

They're the same person, just using two different names?

I saw this thread, scrolled down and saw the italian link.
I had to be in Arlington at 1, so i went down there and got me a sammich, Milano to be specific. Not bad...not bad at all.
There is a butcher shop on glass ave in the mosaic at gallows and 29. Great fresh cut meat and it actually looks as good as the pictures. More butcher shop than sub shop.
