An inspector with the Fairfax County Department of Code Compliance was charged for allegedly accepting cash for a transaction while operating in his capacity as an inspector, police said Tuesday.

Rakesh K. Kapoor, 54, of Manassas was arrested on a charge of felony obtaining money by false pretense Tuesday, Fairfax County police said. Authorities declined to specify Kapoor’s position with the department or the nature of the transaction.

Not sure why he did this, but the volume of calls has certainly had an impact on any oversight, as demonstrated by the Kapoor case, which is probably far from being an isolated incident.

we have to pay for every fuckign thing that mother fucker inspected and re-inspect it to be safe - or pay huge lawsuits if someone is injured on a past bribe of his.

that means he can sit in prison and sell information on what is a potential lawsuit against the county

i know %100 sure how fairfax was run in the 1980's

the inspectors absolutely did not take bribes

the inspectors absolutely did not overlook anything serious

the inspectors would overlook minor things when a able contrator/person was there and promising to finish the work and began immediately to do so

the inspectors weren't unfair and the fees were not outrageous, it was not a "gotcha" city slicker system of inspection. they were proffessional that didn't let bullshit fly, because bullshit is dangerous and also more costly than a job done right the 1st time with less material.

that may not be how it was in your area but i knew contractors, had inspections, and am %100 sure fairfax was not a city slicker piece of crap. inspections.

How much of a bribe do you need in order to put your career at risk? Not much, it appears.

I know Rakesh. I am not surprised at all that he did this. See his big big house. His nice cars, etc. Most of his family works for Fairfax County. I am just glad they caught him. I can't say all inspectors are doing this but people from other countries think the way they were grown up and in Pakistan and Indian corruption is the rule.

Rakesh has been working for Fairfax County since the mid-80 or late-80s.

Yes, which is why there are so many poorly-constructed houses in PG County. A lot of them were built without foundation drainage, because the builders bribed the building inspectors!
