Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
So during the recent snow storm, both my husband and I got out and shoveled snow. We are both senior citizens raised in the the north, so there was no question that we would so this. When we interacted with our neighbors shortly afterwards, we discovered that none of the wives or female teens did any shoveling. Are people in this area raised with these macho stereotypes, or are the women just lazy?

We live in a townhouse where everybody seemed to share the
shoveling. I was pleased to see some neighbors volunteer to help
out some of the older folks who would have been a bit overwhelmed.
Maybe you need to find a new hood.
other people still use shovels? i think i'm the last guy on my street who doesn't own a snowblower. never understood that fad -- it takes longer to get the damn thing started than it does to shovel the 200 square foot driveways around here.

Well, I'm not a housewife. I'm a wife, a mother, and I have a full time job. I sometimes help my husband shovel but more often than not I'm inside watching our toddler children. My husband actually enjoys shoveling snow and like someone mentioned, we live in a townhouse community where everyone helps each other.
This past snowstorm, my husband was still recovering from back surgery so I did all the shoveling with the help of my awesome neighbors who knew he was injured so they helped me out.
"more often than not I'm inside watching our toddler children"
Given that this is Fairfax, you must obsess and hover over them 24/7. Don't forget - it's never to early to start pestering "educators", coaches, etc. on how "precious" your "toddler children" are, since they're the first "toddler children" in the planet's history.
That's for you men to do. Women are the ones taking care of the children home from school. I think kids should do it. Younger ones though, in elementary. We need our rest.

Oh shit...this is FFU. I forgot that the "Fairfax parents are psycho helicopter parents" rhetoric is non-stop on this site.
You're a moron to assume that it's appropriate for any parent, Fairfax or not, to leave a 21 month old and a 3 year old unattended for more than 10 minutes at a time.
I would never stoop so low as to shovel snow. It's not because I'm a woman or a housewife, it's because I'm Melinda Ardinger, and that's all the reason I need.
I used to shovel snow all the time, along with my husband. But it gets much harder as you get older. Between osteoporosis, back problems, high blood pressure, and recent surgery, there was no way I could shovel during this last storm. My husband isn't much better. Fortunately, our son did the shoveling. Without him, I'm not sure what we would have done.
I'd be happy to pay a neighborhood kid to do this, but none of them shovel. Didn't see a single teen out there - just their parents, male and female. Kids used to go door to door looking to pick up some money. Of course, kids used to deliver the newspaper, too. I guess they either think manual labor is beneath them, or they are so spoiled they don't need to earn money. I wonder if this is just a local phenomenon or more widespread.

And daddy says if I kiss his peepee, I can tell mommy what to do. I'm the new mommy in my house.

We once had a family with four boys who used to shovel snow and I remember once during "Snowmageddon" they made $400.00 in about 4 hours. Too bad they
moved away.
I noticed when I was shoveling with my husband only men shoveling and some looking over our way. I think they were envious. Usually neighbors help the elderly dig out. I have had back surgery and usually shovel more than my husband. That's usually the only time you see your neighbors.
Fairfax is nothing but spics. Not even the men shovel. Maybe if they need to work on their Honda civic they might clear an area in the road to lay down.
"I noticed when I was shoveling with my husband only men shoveling and some looking over our way."
I have had the same experience. I grew up in the "fly over" area and we all shovel. A lot. You have to help out there, but I sense that other women don't want me doing it here.
And I'm not a "housewife". I have a full time job outside the home.
I do all the shoveling at our house...Of course I also bear 100% of the financial burden for my family as well...My husband DOES have a make believe radio show though, so there is that...
This Domesticated Goddess will be out there shoveling with the other men on the street several times during the storm tomorrow so it won't be a huge burden when it finally finishes. My delightful spouse won't even notice there is snow outside.
Gentlemen, feel free to stop over for a hot cocoa as my driveway will be cleared. He probably wouldn't notice you either.

Great. And how about the part about playing the skin flute? Do you help with cleaning out the olde pipes too? You have a job but can you give a job?
Work full time, husband retired, we both get out there and shovel, and we help out the neighbors. I know women with small children need to watch them, but growing up we shoveled from about age 10. You needed to shovel since we had so much snow that plows might not come by for a day or so ... We even shoveled the street. So get the teens out there pitching in, it will be good for their character.

Yeah, because people enjoy shoveling. Are all middle age housewives this stupid or are you just the exception?

Waiting for them to finish so they can get to the mall.
I had to convince my wife not to try to drive to work today. She finally agreed. I thought she would be up for some sex, but she said she needed to answer e-mails. An hour later, she was sitting in the bathtub. The door was slightly ajar, so I took a peek to see what was going on in there after an hour. I peeked through the gap in the door and found her vigorously frigging herself. No chance she would shovel snow after shoveling her button.
I lived in a very closed in community off Sager Avenue ( The Crossings). Even when its known that the snow will melt tomorrow and nobody has anything to do but go back in their houses and sit on their asses... Everybody is out there at the same time and it becomes a big ego trip that they are on top of everything!
It becomes a huge problem that nobody has anywhere to shovel the snow off their cars without dumping it into the neighbors places yet, NOBODY has the foresight to ever park in the back or on the far end of the parking lot with an empty meridian to dump their snow on...

Yes, some people actually don't mind getting outside and doing a little work. Just 'cause your a lazy do nothin' doesn't mean that all people are. And, yes, I'm a housewife. And, yes, I did do some shoveling today - it was fun!

Maybe if you maintained your snowblower, it would fire up on the first pull (if you didnt get an electric start model)
I'm a housewife and I let my husband shovel. What he gets in exchange when he returns is a blowjob with me swallowing his cum and permission to fuck me in my ass. This back door entry is reserved only for special occasions, otherwise I'm a prude.
I live in McLean near the arlington border and on Monday I saw a curious trend occur as I went over the county line - I saw nary a white woman or man shoveling or using a snowblower, yet lots of Spanish dudes shoveling away in McLean, and as I entered Arlington, there were white people shoveling everywhere!!
I do the showeling and I get a BJ and hot chocolate from my wife when I'm done.
Call me old fashioned, but that's the way I like it.

That is what happens when you marry the bitches. They get fat and the only blowing they do is your money on purses and other stupid shit.
Sorry, I'm busy inside fixing the perfect martini, finishing a 4 course dinner from scratch in between starching my husbands shirts and keeping our stepford children clean. You know, how it was in the 50's back when the term "housewife" was an acceptable term, you bitch OP!
Did anybody bother shoveling today? Not much of a storm but the sidewalks had accumulations. Well housewives, you have all summer to build up those arm muscles so you can shovel next winter.
