Do Fairfax housewives shovel snow?
Posted by: Shoveling the snow ()
Date: February 22, 2014 08:14AM

So during the recent snow storm, both my husband and I got out and shoveled snow. We are both senior citizens raised in the the north, so there was no question that we would so this. When we interacted with our neighbors shortly afterwards, we discovered that none of the wives or female teens did any shoveling. Are people in this area raised with these macho stereotypes, or are the women just lazy?

We live in a townhouse where everybody seemed to share the
shoveling. I was pleased to see some neighbors volunteer to help
out some of the older folks who would have been a bit overwhelmed.
Maybe you need to find a new hood.

other people still use shovels? i think i'm the last guy on my street who doesn't own a snowblower. never understood that fad -- it takes longer to get the damn thing started than it does to shovel the 200 square foot driveways around here.

Maybe you should take your Yankee asses and your Yankee ways back uo North. P.S. Don't let the snow shovel hit you in the ass on your way back.

Well, I'm not a housewife. I'm a wife, a mother, and I have a full time job. I sometimes help my husband shovel but more often than not I'm inside watching our toddler children. My husband actually enjoys shoveling snow and like someone mentioned, we live in a townhouse community where everyone helps each other.

This past snowstorm, my husband was still recovering from back surgery so I did all the shoveling with the help of my awesome neighbors who knew he was injured so they helped me out.

"more often than not I'm inside watching our toddler children"

Given that this is Fairfax, you must obsess and hover over them 24/7. Don't forget - it's never to early to start pestering "educators", coaches, etc. on how "precious" your "toddler children" are, since they're the first "toddler children" in the planet's history.

gaaaak.

That's for you men to do. Women are the ones taking care of the children home from school. I think kids should do it. Younger ones though, in elementary. We need our rest.

Oh shit...this is FFU. I forgot that the "Fairfax parents are psycho helicopter parents" rhetoric is non-stop on this site.

You're a moron to assume that it's appropriate for any parent, Fairfax or not, to leave a 21 month old and a 3 year old unattended for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I would never stoop so low as to shovel snow. It's not because I'm a woman or a housewife, it's because I'm Melinda Ardinger, and that's all the reason I need.

I used to shovel snow all the time, along with my husband. But it gets much harder as you get older. Between osteoporosis, back problems, high blood pressure, and recent surgery, there was no way I could shovel during this last storm. My husband isn't much better. Fortunately, our son did the shoveling. Without him, I'm not sure what we would have done.

I'd be happy to pay a neighborhood kid to do this, but none of them shovel. Didn't see a single teen out there - just their parents, male and female. Kids used to go door to door looking to pick up some money. Of course, kids used to deliver the newspaper, too. I guess they either think manual labor is beneath them, or they are so spoiled they don't need to earn money. I wonder if this is just a local phenomenon or more widespread.

We once had a family with four boys who used to shovel snow and I remember once during "Snowmageddon" they made $400.00 in about 4 hours. Too bad they
moved away.

I noticed when I was shoveling with my husband only men shoveling and some looking over our way. I think they were envious. Usually neighbors help the elderly dig out. I have had back surgery and usually shovel more than my husband. That's usually the only time you see your neighbors.

Fairfax is nothing but spics. Not even the men shovel. Maybe if they need to work on their Honda civic they might clear an area in the road to lay down.

I have had the same experience. I grew up in the "fly over" area and we all shovel. A lot. You have to help out there, but I sense that other women don't want me doing it here.

And I'm not a "housewife". I have a full time job outside the home.

This Domesticated Goddess will be out there shoveling with the other men on the street several times during the storm tomorrow so it won't be a huge burden when it finally finishes. My delightful spouse won't even notice there is snow outside.
Gentlemen, feel free to stop over for a hot cocoa as my driveway will be cleared. He probably wouldn't notice you either.

Great. And how about the part about playing the skin flute? Do you help with cleaning out the olde pipes too? You have a job but can you give a job?

Work full time, husband retired, we both get out there and shovel, and we help out the neighbors. I know women with small children need to watch them, but growing up we shoveled from about age 10. You needed to shovel since we had so much snow that plows might not come by for a day or so ... We even shoveled the street. So get the teens out there pitching in, it will be good for their character.

I had to convince my wife not to try to drive to work today. She finally agreed. I thought she would be up for some sex, but she said she needed to answer e-mails. An hour later, she was sitting in the bathtub. The door was slightly ajar, so I took a peek to see what was going on in there after an hour. I peeked through the gap in the door and found her vigorously frigging herself. No chance she would shovel snow after shoveling her button.

I lived in a very closed in community off Sager Avenue ( The Crossings). Even when its known that the snow will melt tomorrow and nobody has anything to do but go back in their houses and sit on their asses... Everybody is out there at the same time and it becomes a big ego trip that they are on top of everything!

It becomes a huge problem that nobody has anywhere to shovel the snow off their cars without dumping it into the neighbors places yet, NOBODY has the foresight to ever park in the back or on the far end of the parking lot with an empty meridian to dump their snow on...

JACKASSES!!!!
