At Westfield High in Chantilly, Principal Tim Thomas addressed the drinking and driving issue with student and parent groups all week, said Paul Regnier, spokesman for the Fairfax County school system.
"He's been talking about not drinking, about being careful when they are driving, but he wants the student leaders to talk to other kids about this," Regnier said.
"His strategy is that he wants student leaders and student athletes to recognize that they need to be role models. You know, kids are more likely to listen to other kids than they are to adults telling them something."

Yeah, WHS has had some pretty bad stuff happen from our school...but it's unfair to lump all the students with the small group of idiots who have decided to mess up their lives, and in some cases other peoples. These problems are a reflection of parenting and our environment we grew up in...the school gets us when were what? 14 years old? So for 14 years we've been taught to be good, then the minute we walk into WHS we immediately act like idiots? No. It happens before WHS. Parents, consider this.

OK, so I went to Westfield just when it started tumbling downhill. I knew Mike Kennedy, the cop killer and most all the original people who first brought heroin into westfield, so I'm here to tell you why it is SO BAD! The school has a large percent of students who have money and alarge percent who aren't very well off. As most of you know, a lot of crimes and drugs come out of london town (and don't say that's bs, cause I've boughten coke, meth, heroin, pot, ecstacy,etc from there) and hen money and drugs mix, KABOOM!!! It is very true that they don't take it very seriously, so much so that I got my sister to go private, but I asked Tim Thomas if he wanted someone to talk to students about that stuff and he said "no, we don't have problems like that here! And if we do, they're not that bad." In the end, though, it's everyones personal choice, and that's it!

I can't believe half you you people. Yes Westfield has had a "Heroin Ring." Yes, some kids did grow up to become killers, and yes, some kids have had fatal accidents because of drunk driving.
This is called life.
It is a suburban High School with 3,500 students. Obviously some of them are not going to grow up and become first class citizens waving the American flag while holding a bible. A few kids on heroin, some drunk drivers, and 2 murderers DOES NOT make Westfield "a horrible place" or a "wasteland." This does not make ANY school a horrible place.
Anyone here who calls the school a horrible place full of sheltered, "privileged monsters" is just as sheltered as the people they are condemning because they fail to realize that their Fairfax County is NOT the center of the world, and that this kind of behavior among students is while not exactly normal, it is unavoidable and expected even, that some people turn out to be rotten. This happens everywhere, you can't escape it. There are many, many other places just the same as Westfield, and more more worse than Westfield.
Westfield is located in, and I say this without negative connotation, a privelaged area. Unprivileged areas greatly outnumber privileged areas. Suburbia is not as common a place as you might think. Most schools would probably love to have as few "criminals" as Westfield does, because most schools don't, they have more.

Does it matter? So I go a little high and say 3,500 or I go a little low and say 3,000, either way the amount of people in the heroin ring, the two murderers and the one drunk chick out of either is number of students in the entire school is still about 1/150 of the schools population.

its not 1/150 of the school population when you consider that the school has been open for 9 years(i think, it will be ten this year). lets assume that their have been 20 major screwups (as in newsbreaking druggies, murderers, etc) to come from westfield. that comes out to be about 1/340.

Westfield High School is a great school. Like any place with so many students you are going to have problems. As do many of the other schools in Fairfax County and the rest of the area. Yes they have had their high profile incidents, but also far too many good things as well, it is one of the area's top schools in academics, theater arts and sports. Along with many diverse clubs and other good things! They far out weigh any of the negative issues with the school.

I saw their spring production of WestSide Story and was amazed by the talent and impressed with the school and the theatre. I had no idea it had such a bad reputation. The kids in the show were impressive and obviously put a lot of time and heart into the production. Not all is bad at Westfield. Excellent drama department, IMO. And the orchestra too. Lots of talented students that will no doubt continue to find joy in the arts for a lifetime.

The school itself is 10 years old, meaning that most of the killers went to the school when it just opened. So lets take a look at where they might have gone. Okay maybe you're right. Not 50% but I would say at least a third or more smoke weed most days, and by the time you're a senior almost everybody drinks. And its not that I know very many of these coke/dope users personally but the thing is I know of them. They exist at every school and people make it seem like that shit only goes on at Westfield because they are the ones who got caught. There are a lot more drug users out there than most people think, because people keep it on the DL. And also, let me rephrase what I said earlier about being a heavy drug user, I meant to say that I used to be, back in high school. These days I have a few beers on the weekends and take the occasional toke. People think that once somebody uses hard drugs they are stuck for life. I got out of the drug scene just fine and so do many others. Not every person who uses drugs is the type of person you find on the streets or you see on the show Intervention. They're just regular people like you and me.

Is this just Sour Grapes from some of you or does Westfields really have problems? My first reaction is to say that most of the people at Westfields have never really seen real problems, so when a few students get popped for Marijuana, it's a huge shocker for those most sheltered gated community living Americans.

Judging by the txt file of Fairfax HS grades recently posted. WHS *really* is that bad.
Doubt clothing styles and social mores are a direct cause, but it's possible that parents who let their kids go to school looking (and sounding, and from this thread, writing) like idiots are more likely to be parents who don't care about junior's grades. Apparently those parents and kids correspondingly get the grades they deserve.
Would hate to be a teacher there putting up with them.
Maybe those kids who know the world sees how bad their grades are will feel inspired to rise above their parent's indifference and raise their GPAs? Nah...now I must be smoking something.

I 1000000% agree! Those spoiled little brats who are told how great they are by mommy and daddy everyday need to have someone in their lives beat some real life sense into them!! For Christ Sake! The Westfield, Lee, Langley, Chantilly, hell fuck it! ALL of FFC kids are coddled and praised! They are not told “no” enough and shit is always sugar coated for them! They need to see what it's like to die from drugs! Those who are "student leaders", I could put money on the fact that they probably party the most! Because they have a title that they think puts them even farther above others, they run with it thinking their title will get them out of trouble! Since my freshman year in high school, someone from my school died every year I was there. I almost lost my best friend who was hit by a drunk driver. Do they not realize that because of the area they live in they have so many advantages to possible working for the government, being able to make with equal to or more money then their parents?! Doing these drugs and drinking and getting caught, messing up their records, REALLY puts a stop to that...then after they realize they wasted their 4 years of high school and can't get into a college or get a job they bum off mommy and daddy. OR they get to college and come home after a semester because of partying too much and not prioritizing. OR they party even harder in college and keep getting away with it, then when they are out of school they are incapable of getting a good job because they don't know how to handle the real world. SO PLEASE! SOMEONE START PUNISHING LIKE THE OLD DAYS! STOP SUGAR COATING EVERYTHING AND TELL THEM HOW IT REALLY IS OUT THERE AND HOW DANGEROUS IT IS!
