Dulles Greenway toll road peak rate to increase from $5.15 to $6.00?
Posted by: STOP THE MADNESS ()

Under the contract governing construction of the Silver Line, the Airports Authority is required to use revenues from the toll road to help fund the project. Funding also is supplied by Fairfax and Loudoun counties, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Airports Authority and the federal government. Airports Authority Board Chairman Michael Curto emphasized that the 2013 and 2014 toll adjustments are primarily necessary to help pay for Phase 1 Silver Line construction costs.

Proposed toll rates that were considered during hearings this fall also called for increases in 2015, but the Board noted the current uncertainties over the amount of revenue that would be needed in 2015 as the Authority pursues additional sources of funding.

Proposed peak travel-time rates: $6.00 (2014) $6.75 (2015)

No problem. We'll just raise the minimum wage to $200/hr so that everyone is rich and can afford it. Vote Democrat to get rich quick!

In 2001 when I took the toll road into private school in DC everday it was .50 cents. Now, 12 years later, the price is up 1200%. What a scam.

I know families that live in Reston that use the tollroad every day for work and private school. They are spending $4k-$5k per year in toll fees. That's disgusting.

Doesn't matter. Never paid a cent. Been driving on the road for years. Never been fined.

Here's an idea: if you think the Greenway is too expensive then simply stop taking it. Nobody HAS to take the Greenway, there are several alternative routes.

An organized boycott is the ONLY thing that might be successful in lowering the price. If you continue to pay the high prices then what incentive do they have to lower them?

I think it's the Dulles Toll Road, not the Greenway. The boycott doesn't seem to be affecting the amount of traffic.

Too may people are "nigger rich."
Paying $5.15 to $6.00 just to sit in traffic is just dumb. I could understand if you could go 50mph, but the traffic is locked on the "tool road" in the morning. Crammed bumper to bumper with BMW's and Mercedes-Benz.

Don't get the two roads mixed up.

Dulles Greenway - Leesburg to Dulles
Dulles Toll Road - Dulles to Beltway

Two completely different roads owned by two different organizations. Greenway is owned by a bunch of thieving foreigners, Toll Road is part of MWAA.

The greenway has nothing to do with the silver line. Just more Loudoun morons spouting off.

Yep, it's privately owned.

Where Your Toll $ Goes
We are the 6th largest property taxpayer in Loudoun (30.7 Million since 1997).
No owner's cash distribution since 2006 based on debt obligation requirements.
VA State Police are paid by the Greenway with no public tax dollars.
Loudoun County commuter buses operate for free on the Greenway.

We support Loudoun's economic development initiative to create a business destination along the Greenway.
The Greenway provides a reliable transportation option for business travelers heading to Loudoun, contributing to our local economic success.
The Greenway has donated our median for the construction of the MetroRail at no cost.

I have lived in many other states but VA got to be one of the worst managed and corrupted state in US. Just look around our local roads and highways, can't drive less than a mile without going over a pot holes and bumps. No overhead lights on the highway..only lit up by toll booths. VA State Lottery always advertises that they have given billions of dollars back to the Education but our kids school is falling apart. Who is managing the General Funding from lottery? I thought our taxes suppose to take care our local roads and federal aids for Interstate. VA has sold portion of our highway on 495 Beltway to some foreign company in Australia named it HOV Express and another on 395/95 calling it the HOT lane..This is f***ing crazy..

Transurban is the company profiting off your misery. Take your frustration out on them or any other Australian.

The DULLES GREENWAY (west of Dulles Airport to Leesburg) is privately owned and is not part of the funding equation for the Metro extension. The DULLES TOLL ROAD (Dulles Airport east to I-495) is owned by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) and they do use toll revenues to fund the Silver Line. Maxium DTR tolls just went up on 1/1 to $3.50 each way ($1.00 at eastbound on-ramps and westbound off-ramps, and $2.50 at the main toll plaza between Route 7 and I-495). There is no increase planned for 2015.

Not sure where your information came from, but it's wrong.

If it is going to be that expensive to use the Greenway and the Toll road in the future, what do you think they will be charging for a ride down the Silver Line---$10.00 each way???

Notice that Metro/Local Governments haven't mentioned the Silver Line's fare structure? Remember, how the Hot lanes were being touted and then they forced the EZ Pass monthly fee on us.

Seriously? Try driving through much of DC then come back and complain about Va. roads and see how much of a smackdown you get from people who actually know shit.
