Cost to stain a deck
Posted by: ProDecker ()

Anyone know who can wash and stain a deck (and stairs)? Deck is 21 X 17. I am in Springfield. Also, what can I expect cost-wise? I have no clue what something like this would cost and don't have any idea if the quotes I get are accurate or not. Thanks.

Thanks for the bullshit reply - why bother posting anything if you aren't going to be helpful? You don't what circumstances people have and there are reasons they cannot do it themselves. Elderly, ill, it could be a number of reasons. But thanks for considering that before making your snide-ass comment.

He's right its cheaper to buy the stuff and do it yourself. Some of these contractors around here will rip you off, and put down a cheapo seal. If you're unable to do it yourself, I'm going to recommend you check out "Angie's list" and find one in your area that has a good recommendation.

If you have the tools, equipment, material and an ample supply of beer and munchies, I can help you do it. How much are you being quoted? The wash part is the most time consuming. Depending on how many people are doing it, and how many machines they have, my guess is it's 1/2 to a full day's worth of work. Then after the deck dries, which could be a few days, they'll need to come back to apply the stain.

This is by no means a difficult task, but if you're totally clueless with the process, it may make sense to bite the bullet and pay someone to do it. Just be sure the work is warranted.

Otherwise maybe it's time to consider composite decking; just a thought.

Damn MF'ers. OP asked what the fuck it cost to stain a deck, not the price of pussy in Peoria. If you don't know, just shut the fuck up.

Hey OP, just get your 3 quotes, if you don't like get 3 more, if you don't like get 3 more, if you don't like get 3 more, if you don't like get 3 more, if you don't like get 3 more ...

get the picture?! What we paid has nothing to do with your deck. I think that what Ralph was sayin is that if you don't like your quote paint the damn thing yourself. Ask a sensible question get a sensible answer.

How did such an innocuous question become this ugly?

Anyway, here's a quote I got last year for a 10' x 13' old deck in poor shape (Angie's List recommended contractor):

- Deck restoration (honestly not sure what that is): $98
- Deck stain removal surcharge ( stripping the old stain): $175
- Wood sealing: $160-225, depending on the quality of the sealer

Your deck is about three times as large as mine, so I would probably triple the cost.

I'm a middle-aged woman, and I've done this work before myself. As someone else noted, the majority of the effort is in the cleaning. If you are not up for it, you will find it grueling. But if you're young and healthy (or your kids are), it's not that big a deal. Personally, I don't have the energy for this sort of thing anymore.

Hope this helps.

Let me give you a serious, and hopefully, helpful response. You should be able to get it done for between $700 and $1000. This includes power washing the deck and staining it with good quality stain.

The range I have quoted is because it really depends on the deck and how the non-flat surfaces such as the rails, posts, etc which takes longer to stain. The staining of the flat surface is actually pretty easy and fast.

A couple of months ago, I had my deck power-washed and stained but I only had the flat areas done - none of the rails and posts. The latter were in real good condition so they did not need it. It cost me only $600 and my deck is probably two times larger than yours.

The guy I used is excellent but he will not come to Springfield because it is too long a commute for him.

What exactly IS the cost of pussy in Peoria? Do I pay a discount from the pro's in Chicago or a premium from the crackho's there? Also, is rimming extra? I'm really into that from my days in prison. Or will she expect to get rimmed for free?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you to everyone that provided meaningful, helpful information. It's sad that the rest of the responses were made by teenagers with nothing better to do than make stupid comments to legitimate questions. I hope you remember all that you have posted because when you grow up you will cringe at your loser comments.Do yourself a favor and get out from behind the computer and get a real life.

I will stain your deck for free. I just need to see your wife doing jumping jacks naked in the backyard. If she is hot I can get the job done in a couple of minutes.

er, how about WORKING IT OUT YOURSELF, OR PICKING UP THE FUCKING PHONE. IF YOUR DECK IS A BIG AS YOUR BRAIN THEN PROB ABOUT $0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001
