It is because the homeless shelter is next door and Barnes and Nobel in Reston closed, which used to be a popular shelter hangout. Now the homeless are going to the library in droves.

Public libraries are cesspools for the homeless and other loitering dregs. I will pay for a book from Amazon to prevent a trip inside a library, I can only imagine what kind of fiends are in there looking at smut.

Lots of homeless people hang out there. Check out the cars there too. Lots of them are stuffed full floor to ceiling with stuff. There's only room for the driver.

It looks like the police completely gave up on the shanty town on Sunset Hills. The structures there are now semi-permanent. Maybe we got more skilled illegals in because of the expected amnesty bill from the Republicans and Obama.

There was a fight about free speech when the libraries put in porn filters. I think the compromise is that you can request that they temporarily disable the filter.

The human garbage hanging around that library are courtesy of some homeless shelter or some shit like that nearby. I'll never go there again. I'll drive to Oakton or somewhere else.

Reston has homeless people? They usually gravitate to urban areas because that's where they are most likely to find services as well as large numbers of people to hit up for spare change. Why is there a homeless shelter in Reston?

Reston is hardly rural. The important part is that it is in Fairfax County which is quite generous with welfare benefits thanks to liberals. I feel for anyone wanting to use a library and they have to deal with Oscar the Grouch minus the trash can.

How come they aren't able to get jobs? It's so easy to make money in this country.

There's not enough workfare or warfare to keep everyone employed. If we really cut spending, the people in expensive homes and pretending to be conservatives would be bitching loud.

I was in Reston library two weeks ago and can confirm that the homeless have taken over. They occupy most of the computer terminals and use the tables to either sleep or as shelves to put their 10 bags on.

I have not been to the Reston library in a long time. But based on my recent observations, at several other public Library's in FFX county, a person is not going to able to look at porn or sleep for very long. They may get away with for a little while but as soon as they are caught they are "kicked out" and told to leave.

What good is the internet to bums. If porn is blocked what are they going to look at, certainly not the employment ads.

We should get rid of the computers in libraries anyhow. On the rare occasion when I visit our local library it's just a bunch of loafers sitting in front of the computers wasting their time. Kind of like being on FFXU now that I think about it.

Two stupid things in libraries: play areas and computers. Fuck, make that three....hobos too.

In order for you to search the catalog and locate a book -- whether it's on the shelf the library you are at or some other library in the system, you need to use the computers. I think the library also subscribes to some on-line databases that can't be accessed from home. So that's the reason computers are needed there. Porn surfing is optional. (Why don't people just sit in their cars or grocery carts outside a starbucks and use their connection for porn surfing or whatever?)

There are two groups of computers: one for the databases/catalog and one to get on the internet. The computers used for databases don't have an easy connection to the internet (it can be done though if you know what you are doing). I only use the database computers at the libarary and surf at home.

I think most homeless folks don't have a laptop, and that's why they are inside the library.
