Quick-Start Guide to FFXU

1) Not everyone is eesh.

It's tempting to believe that only one person is behind a lot of the posts, but it's a mistake to underestimate how many real assholes are here. It's also a mistake to not realize that "good people" post "bad stuff" here. I suspect it's a release like road rage, but slightly less dangerous.

2) Trust nobody.

Many folks have been outed by those they trusted here. And several have been tricked into turning against innocent posters and/or people who've never even heard of FFXU. When the trolling is of that caliber, regardless of rule #1, it is likely that eesh was involved.

3) Admit nothing.

If you're not breaking the law, Cary has your back. They can't tie you to a handle without either a warrant, a subpoena, or your admission. In the event that a Police Officer tries to tie you to a post, it MAY be possible that you could be charged with "hindering an investigation" or "lying to investigators", but again, if you're not breaking the law, you can probably put your trust in Cary.

4) Don't waste time correcting/clarifying.

You're going to be misunderstood, misquoted, parodied, and probably libeled and slandered. It's the cost of doing business around here, and if one clarification doesn't work then twenty will do no better.

5) "Sticky" threads are ironic.

The "Welcome" thread will make you want to leave, and the "Downtime" thread should have been taken down a long time ago. The only one that doesn't seem ironic is the "Outing" thread, in which people are outed.

6) Recognize First Amendment Limits.

You may think you know what they are, but "psychiatric intervention" will not be impeded by "due process".

7) Guns are not appropriate for everyone.

Eesh can have and post as many as he wants, but if the cat has one, then bad things are likely to happen.

It's too well written to be a nigger.

Even if I were black, I wouldn't be a nigger.

Then, see Tip #4.

8) If you someone you know dies, don't make an RIP thread about them.

If you don't want them to be made fun of relentlessly post-mortem, then don't be the one that makes the thread. Posters will be brutally honest, their name will dragged through the mud, and relatives will be teased ceaselessly. While you may not make the thread, someone else probably will and even then don't read it.

9. Prepare to be insulted and offended on every post - even on legit threads with a normal legit post.

That was a much needed addition.

(Not that I'm knocking #9, but it and #1 could probably be worked together.)

10. This forum is equipped with a fully operational search function. Before you start a new thread, please use the search to determine if your topic is already being discussed. If there's already a thread please add to it. If there is NOT a thread with your topic then and ONLY then should you start a new thread.

11. Please refrain from posting threads regarding the observation of the operation of either military or law enforcement aircraft short of an international incident such as a "Red Dawn scenario".

Nope... Eesh is generally the most "helpful" when he has an angle on something.

I'm just someone who learned a lot of this stuff "the hard way".

I thought about starting something like this when I saw MC Thinkbox's debut, but he went full-offense so quickly that I decided to just watch it play out, instead.

#10 is wishful thinking, but a great addition.

#11 definitely made me smile.

13) When you post an apology, make it an apology.

Saying you're "honestly sorry" in the same post where you belittle those you upset and carry on with your stated agenda of inter-faith hatred does not truly count as an apology.

14) Only make controversial posts from open WiFi hotspots.

Cary's been working very hard to make sure that you can't truly post anonymously with his blocking of both TOR exit nodes and free Web proxy servers, and will speedily and happily give you up to the cops if they wave a piece of paper in front of him.

13b) Posting, "I'm sorry if you were offended by what I said." is NOT an apology.

15) Be smart because if you are not various different users will comment about your post and make you feel really, very, incredibly stupid.
