take cigarettes, for example. higher taxes > fewer smokers. higher car taxes > fewer drivers. people who once drove will have to take mass transit.

Have the damn cops stop sitting in the X lane with their lights on. Saw a cop with his lights on sitting RIGHT at the "Being to Exit Here" sign. After that, traffic opened up.
Really? Go stop a speeder or something. The X lane is bullshit to begin with, but this cop sitting in the lane thing takes the cake.

If that pisses you off, check out 66 after 4 pm. The cops sit in the median between the Vienna Metro station and Blake Ln overpass trying to catch HOV violators which screws up traffic on 66 west from before 495 and 66 east from at least 123. Thanks for keeping us so "safe", jackasses!

Hey asswipe, I was looking at the cop car while stuck in slow traffic. He was wasn't finishing up a ticket. He was sitting in the car looking at his side view mirror to make sure people were getting out of the X lane. He was sitting RIGHT at the point you could exit on the ramp. More lanes, more vehicles, more roads will never solve anything. We have to rethink the way we work, learn and live. Stop being such a republican and look beyond the horizon to find real solutions. Our first step should be much higher fuel taxes and huge property taxes on vehicles with poor fuel economy.

Somebody needs to invent teleporting or something, driving cars is just too 20th century. Transport in general hasn't advanced much in the last few decades. We still fly slow, trains are slow, and cars and buses are a totally inefficient way of getting around. Someone do something.

You should also fully read things before commenting, Im well aware of the use to taxes to steer peoples behavior. Your argument that more people will take mass transit doesnt work. Theres no metro from South Riding/Sterling into DC or Manassas. If they cant afford a car or to drive they will have no way to get to work and that will really be great for the economy but thats not the point.
He said he wanted higher property taxes for LOW FUEL ECONOMY VEHICLES ONLY. So at best you get people not buying SUVs and buying other cars instead.
His plan doesnt get rid of cars it just changes what type they are. It was nothing more than a liberal environmental big cars and using gas is bad argument, nothing that would have any effect on traffic at all. If anything it would actively discourage carpooling in groups of two or more since no one wants to be shoved into a tiny back seat for an hour each way.
Next time before you come in insulting someone make dam sure youre right and you didnt miss anything. If you want to actually discuss the issues at hand feel free. If you want to just try and make it personal attacks about me youre going to need to do a lot better than that and try and actually be right next time.

OP was suggesting many motorist slam on thier brakes at the sight of a cop in the roadway, even if, they are not speeding. This causes a distruption in the traffic flow. I see it alot. I've seen cops even jump out into the roadway to pull people over. Dangerous. You have to wonder about their state of mind.

Thats true but if you had sufficient road for the amount of cars that effect would be minimal. Its greatly increased by having a huge amount of traffic. If youre going up the street and traffic isnt bad and you see that you slow a little not come to stop and go traffic. Plus thats not the underlying problem, its just compounding it

I disagree. I also forgot to add, whenever there are flashing lights regardless of what is happening, the opposite lanes of traffic also slow down to "rubber neck" causing pointless backups.

Why can't the county just declare eminent domain over that church. This area isn't the middle east where every place of worship is "holy". That intersection is crippling the transportation system on that immediate area. a minimum of 100,000 must pass through that area daily.
