Shimshirry in Tysons is my local fav. I'll have to check out that place you mentioned, I've walked by it on the way to that Hair cuttery but never stopped in. Lebnan Zeman over on Old Courthouse is real good too.

Plaka Grill in Vienna is absolutely awesome.

Shamshiry is gross. Loud mexican music form Kitchen, Indian waiters, Persian and Afghan Pretenders with leased Mercedes who live in shed in dining room or muslim cab drivers.

Other places use old lamb or the cheap parts. Gross.

plaka is the real deal

ive been going to cedar cafe in burke off of old keene mill for falafel and schwarma... the taste is ok but the bread gets chewy from the microwave and its way over-priced. over $5+ for a falfel? bullshit. falafel sandwich loses its charm if you pay more that $4 for it.

i would love to know of a killer schwarma/falafel joint in nova that doesnt have to overcharge an d under deliver just to keep the doors open.

I use to go to Lebenon Zaman all the time and pick up carry out, than one time my order was not ready so I hung out for a while. All the waiting made me have to go to the bathroom and that was the end of that relationship! The bathroom of that place is disgusting. It actually smells like a Lebanese truck stop bathroom, all I could picture was the staff using the restroom in that nasty place. I have not been back since and I could not even eat my food that night! I would say Shamshiry and than Moby for Persian kabob and Friends Kabob and the place in the food court in Tysons for Afgan.

I have to nominate Kabob Exress in Centreville because I recently learned they have a hookah bar Friday/Saturday nights. I've only ever gotten the boneless chicken breast platter, so I can't speak for the other things on their menu. Although, you get to pick 1 side (in addition to the bread/salad/yogurt sauce) and I always get the chickpeas... quite yummy.

Kabob Palace in Crystal City is open 24/7 and has the very best kabobs.

If you're in Reston, Reston Kabobs is tasty.

Surprisingly Grill Kabob in the Tyson's corner food court is great.

you can't judge all kabobs the same..

for pakistani style.. kabob palace is the best in NOVA....
for iranian style.. then Shamshiry is pretty good...
afghani style... kabob house is pretty good..

there's just way to many places....

personally ilike pakistan style.. more flavor.. more spice..

only problem is you end up smelling like underarms from the curry and masala....

but tastes SOOOOO good..

chickpeas/ cholle channa is the best veggie side to get in the pakistani joints

If you guys are ever in the springfield area, try Food Korner II in Brookfield Plaza, next to the 7-11. They gave you great food at a decent price. For a nice resturant experience, it's hands down either Ariana Kabob on Rt. 50, or Bamian Resturant on Rt.7 near 7 corners shopping center. Kazan is a great restaurant. It's a bit pricey, IMO, and it sucks they aren't open for lunch on the weekend, but it's a nice joint and the food is great. My favorite is the lamb and eggplant kebab- but that swordfish kebab sounds awesome. I don't think I've ever noticed that on the menu. I'm gonna have to stop in there now sometime soon to get that. I tried Lazeeza Kabob in Merrifield this past weekend.
I had a gyro sandwich, not the kabobs, though.

It's some kind of Pakistani place, I think - there is a big Indian
influence, but it's not Indian. I liked the kind of bread here
better than most places I've eaten in NoVa. The gyro was good.
Will be back to try more things.

I'll make this real easy, the best Kabob's in NOVA are Kabob Palace in Crystal City and Ravi Kabob in Alexadria hands down. Both are always rated tops in the Post and the Washingtonian and are always packed to the brim.

I guarantee once you try one of these places you won't be going back to any of these other places. I've tried many of the places mentioned here, Moby's, Rose, the one by Marshalls, Shimshirry, The Tyson's mall place. None of them hold a candle to these two. Afghan Kabob is definitely the way to go, more flavor and you get some delicious sides.

And FYI to the poster with the smartass comment about the best food being at Maestro, Maestro closed down almost two years ago...

Lebanese Butcher in Falls CHurch is the real deal when it comes to schwarmas. It was mentioned in the Washingtonion a few years ago and i checked it out. The place started as a lebanese butcher shop that provided fresh cuts of meat. They then expanded into the store next door and opened up the restaurant. There is nothing like a schwarma made from freshly butchered beef/goat. I highly recommend it to anyone. It is located in the shopping center at the intersection of Lee Highway and Annandale Road.

The best I have found are unfortunately not in Fairfax County ,

For some Pakistani Kabob, check out the Ravi Kabob in Arlington, that place looks like some Pashtun farmers just opened that place. Its always packed.

Afghan kabob , go to the aptly named Afghan famous Kabob in Gainesville.

There really isnt much different between the two 'styles'. Just that the guys in Arlington are from Pakistan. The chick peas are off the hook, nice and spicy at both places

Don't just get the kabobs, you should try dishes like Qaubili Palau too..

Meat in a Box is great, especially when they also have Persian chicken salad available as a starter. Kabob Bazaar in Clarendon is good, so is Duke Kabob near Landmark. Avoid Bread & Kabob in the Culmore area. The times I've eaten at Moby Dick it wasn't bad. I've only ever had Persian kabobs, so not sure about other kinds.

I AGREE, hands down one of the best.

His brothers have ones just as good in Annandale by John Marr Drive (number one) and another one in Springfield on Backlick's Brookfield Plaza-Corner Kabob II.

Gotta say that Kabul Restaurant next to Zaxx's is awesome for a sit down dinner.

What is up with all the Muslim cab drivers? Hey FBI - Are you checking this out? Just saying...it seems odd.

I need to update my opinion from a few years ago.

Rose Restaurant in Vienna has been my favorite over the past year. They make THE BEST lamb kebabs I've had around here. Stop in and try the kubideh/lamb platter. Their prices are a but high, but they set a very high bar on great kebab.

Moby Dick in McLean has gone down hill, IMO, and that Amoo's place is alright, but nowhere close to the good food at Rose.

Flame Kabob in Springfield, hands down. This area has a plethora to choose from, all are either shitty or really good. The key is the chickpeas not being too mushy, along with a choice of meats, such as lamb, chicken, beef, etc. Flame Kabob hasn't gotten into the Tilapia and swordfish as much, but they do have a fish kabob, and their service and nan is quite good. Also, the prices are fine, as is the boneless chicken. Its very spicy.

Duke Kabob on Little River Turnpike beats the shit out of every Kabob joint in the area. The rest is all pretenders, ya heard.

Actually that is another good choice. Yup, gotta agree. Although I still go for Flame Kabob a bit more, Duke Kabob is an unheralded location, that is authentic, affordable, and got good people working there. Yum.

Ravi Kabob opened a place up right across form the Food Corner in Springfield by the biker shop.

I tried the Afghan Kabob place in Gainesville as I live nearby. It was ok, but I wasn't impressed. Completely fucked up inside. So disorganized. I ordered by phone and still had to wait 30 minutes after I got there before I had to say WTF? Should have walked out. Nora's (Lebanese) a couple doors down is not bad.

I like Food Corner Kabob. I have been to the one in Springfield and the one in Centerville. Good stuff. Usually get the boneless chicken and either chick peas or lamb on my rice for lunch.

There's Kabob House in Vienna where Nizam's used to be. Haven't tried it though.

Last year I think. Nizam retired.

Feb/March to be exact.

Moby Dick is disgustingly bland with terrible bread.

Do you like Applebee's too?
