I think it is more than a novelty, but I also think it is way over-hyped. Apple obviously took technology it had already developed for the iPhone and simply wrapped it in Kindle packaging. I do think there is a market for this, but it needs to be priced competitively (which it isn't). The money will be made from iBooks, not on the device itself. And I agree, iPad sucks as a name. They would have done much better calling it iReader or something that defines it better in the minds of consumers.
