So, if you were for Hyra, Gillespie actually has many of the same ideas.
Example 1
From Hyra's website: As Governor, Cliff Hyra will unleash the potential of small business owners and entrepreneurs by:
•Ending inefficient, job-killing business taxes such as the Business, Professional and Occupational License (aka BPOL) tax that taxes gross receipts, not profits, the Merchant Capital tax, the Machine and Tool tax, and the business personal property tax, which deter business formation and innovation
•Ending state occupational licensing requirements for cosmetologists, interior decorators, nail technicians, etc.
From Ed Gillespie's detailed tax plan (page 6): Cutting state income taxes is only part of the equation. To truly spark economic growth, Virginia needs to reform its antiquated, patchwork system of local business taxes. The Business and Professional Occupancy License or BPOL Tax, the Machinery & Tools Tax, and the Merchants’ Capital Tax are vestiges of a prior era when Virginia’s economy was growing by leaps and bounds despite these impediments to business growth.
Example 2
From Hyra's website: Introduce more competition and choice by expanding Virginia’s charter school program, modeling it on the New York state program that shows much success, especially in the African American community. Emphasize the importance of education in growing Virginia’s economy, reducing inequality and promoting growth across all of the Commonwealth
Make public schools more adaptable and competitive.
From Gillespie's website: Public charter schools provide parents with alternatives when their zoned-public school is underperforming. Public charter schools provide opportunity for innovation, research and development in a field too often stifled by the status quo.
Public charter schools are some of the top-performing schools in the country. Not only are they closing the achievement gap, but a higher percentage of charter students are accepted into a college or university.
Sadly, Virginia is near the bottom of the country in terms of charter school opportunity. For example, neighboring North Carolina has 167 public charter schools, compared to Virginia’s nine. Current Virginia law makes it nearly impossible to open a public charter school. Even if one does get approved to open, the school is not given the autonomy to innovate like charter schools in nearly every other state with a charter school law.
Example 3
From Hyra's website: Protect important 2nd Amendment constitutional rights against encroachment by restrictions proven to be ineffective, such as limitations on magazine capacity and on broad categories of firearms, “one gun per month” rules, etc.
•Keep firearms out of the hands of criminals and the severely mentally ill
From Gillespie's website: As governor, Ed will defend and advance our individual Second Amendment rights and work to protect the interests and proud traditions of Virginia’s sportsmen.
Where is Ralph Northam on this issue.
