PhDs can't prescribe medication. That's mostly therapy from a Psychologist. It is hard to find an MD who is a psychiatrist. That's why you simply go to your PCP. All PCP's will prescripe anti anxiety and depression meds. Especially simple SSRI's (like Wellbutrin, Prozac, Lexapro). They tend not be comfortable with psychiatric diagnosis but mood disorders, yes.
