I'm not a millennial...nor a hipster actually. The DC area like a lot of metropolitan areas has a lot to offer geographically and infrastructurally. Many think they "need" a car because they've never considered it's possible to live a life without one. In many fields now, teleworking has become a way of life. A friend of mine works at DOJ and he only goes into the office 5 or 6 times per year.
Assuming my above mentioned work-home parameters, if you gave me a day or two of research, I'm sure that I could locate a residence in a safe neighborhood, near public transportation, near shopping, a pediatrician and schools which would still negate the need to own a car. Again, one may still have to use Uber from time to time, although I wouldn't want to do so with putting carseats in and out obviously.
I'm not trying to troll or shit on anyone for owning a car. There's a lot I miss about not owning a car.
