Officers Corral Stray Chicken on Route 1, Near Potomac Yard Center

Anyone lose a chicken? Animal control officers had their hands full last week corralling a brown hen on Route 1 in Alexandria.
The incident took place Monday in the 3300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway, where officers responded to the report of a stray chicken. Officers located the chicken and brought it to the animal shelter. The chicken is described as young female brown/buff.
It was just one of the recent calls handled by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria’s Animal Services Officers:
July 9:
•Unit block of East Myrtle St: Officers responded to the report of a sick raccoon. Officers located the raccoon and took it to the animal shelter where it was determined that its condition was severe and it was humanely euthanized.
•100 block of Wesmond Dr.: Officers responded to the report of an injured squirrel. Officers located the squirrel and took it to the animal shelter where it was determined that its injuries were severe and it was humanely euthanized
July 10:
•2500 block of North Van Dorn St.: Officers responded to the report of a stray cat in a utility room. Officers set a humane trap at the location but after six days were unable to capture the cat. Officers determined the cat had left the area.
•4300 block of Loyola Ave.: Officers responded to the report of an injured bird. Officers located the bird and transferred it to an area veterinarian for examination.
•200 block of Luna Park Dr.: Officers responded to the report of a stray dog. Officers located the dog and brought it to the animal shelter. The owner came forward and reclaimed the dog later the same day.
July 13
•300 block of North Union: Officers responded to the report of a stray dog. Officers located the dog and brought it to the animal shelter. The owner came forward and reclaimed the dog later the same day.
July 14
• Unit block of East Maple St.: Officers responded to the report of a stray dog. Officers located the dog and brought it to the animal shelter. The owner came forward and reclaimed the dog later the same day.
