I love the bullshit about podcast audiences being so loyal that they will go to the show's sponsors. Mike's listeners are so loyal that they didn't bother going to a bar HE OWNED!

Also note that Mike's "start-up costs" apparently didn't include bandwidth, since his website keeps going down and they are begging for someone to host it.

Another pack of B.S. from MOM. Like the B.S. he used to spew on his WJFK show about "not going anywhere" while the ax was coming down.

Great photo of Mike and the Gang in the Washington Post article of them sitting around all the equipment in Mike's living room. Makes them look desperate and pathetic sitting there with thousands of dollars worth of recording equipment like they're broadcasting to millions of listerners each day (thanks god Oscar has the audio filter in front of his microphone). They could achieve the same results with a $50 Radio Shack recorder that they d passed amongst themselves. And their so-called sponsors: A chicken joint in Rockville. Im sure they're only pouring a few hundred dollars at most into Mike's coiffers. How much return could they possibly expect? Two or three extra $6.99 plates of chicken sold each week??? They are collectively a bunch of dummies....

I agree. Anyone who buys time on his podcast is throwing money away.

Ah, not so fast -- looks like the El Pollo Primo ad is now gone. They were probably scared off by the constant web site crashes (or, more likely, somebody was just doing a favor for Mike).

In its place now is an ad for Sans Screenprint & Graphic Design... and hey, with their awesome 1997-era CLARIS HOME PAGE web site http://www.sansscreenprint.com, why wouldn't you trust them with all your design needs?

The fact that the sorry Washington comPost has nothing else better to do than write a SHAM report with BOGUS statistics, speaks volumes for both the crappy periodical that printed the story, and the failing "enterprise" that is the MOM pod-cast series. Utterly pathetic on both parts. This was probably done through backchannels or friendly accquiantances Mike has made along the way and is an obvious attempt to curtail the bad PR this and other blogs are giving his "show" by constantly pointing fingers and making fun of it.

Well I guess Oscar Zeballos( who goes by santana), will be to blame when this is all over, when mike gets divorced from carla, loses his homes, and either blows his head off, or becomes a alcoholic bum living under a bridge, or the drunk who lives in Robbs basement...

I'm not sure why Mike is taking advice from Oscar, anyway. So far we have learned that Oscar doesn't understand that bandwidth costs money, doesn't know that most podcasts aren't uploaded in 57mb file formats and isn't able to track monthly bandwidth usage to anticipate when the site might crash due to exceeding a quota. If he can't comprehend the very basics of doing a podcast, how the hell is he going to figure out how to make one profitable?

I'm sure some of the equipment is left over from his "Crap Blues Band" day's

It had to be part of the extensive podcast pre-launch planning and genius logistics in ramping up for the show.

Mike: " Hey guys! I already have the mixer and some microphones from the band!"

Sans produces the MOM shirt sold in the MOM "store" so you know that was a barter deal... And check that shirt out! The eye catching graphics really jump out at you.

MOM can't even get a proper resolution logo for his "web advertisement." I'm sure the shirt looks like shit.

It's funny how Oscar is the one who appears to be responsible for accounts payable.
They apologize for the website crashing and Oscar jokes about backing the Brinks truck up to the door of whomever their buying bandwidth from. Then Mike reminds everyone that it is the supporters that are responsible for the MOMS remaining available. Of course Mike passes the buck off to Oscar and puts him on the spot asking if every things been taken care of. They all agree the shows just having "growing pains", alls well and it won't happen again.....We'll see

Of course it will happen again. They can't even make it through an entire month without hitting their quota. If they get more downloads, they will need more bandwidth. However, I doubt they have enough revenue from sponsors to cover it.

Mike needs to fish or cut bait. He supposedly has 15,000 listeners. He needs to go to a pay-only service. If 1,000 of that 15,000 stay on, it could be enough to keep it going and actually pay some people something. This free shit ain't working and nobody worth a damn is going to advertise on the podcast, much less the "big sponsors" Mike craves.

How much revenue do you think they take in from their few sponsors? A few hundred a month? I just dont see a local restaurant, cigar store, plastic surgeon and silk screening place being able to pony up big bucks for advertising. If they had deeper pockets, they would be placing ads in local Gazette's. the Washingtonian, The Examiner, The Post, on WJFK or DC101, etc. And does the plastic surgeon understand the TMOS demographics. How many dudes are running to get Botox injections?????

+1

Mike wants "big sponsors." However, to get "big sponsors," that means they have to go to ad agencies and convince the agencies to recommend Mike's paltry audience to their clients. That also involves clients looking at Mike's website and seeing ads for Improv schools and chicken places. I'm sure Coca Cola and United Airlines can't wait through their advertising dollars at Mike.

The sad thing is, Rob(b) would let this fat fuck do it, too. He'd let Mike yell at his wife when she didn't bring him a beer fast enough and throw shit at his kids, too, when they disturbed his hungover-addled sleep.

I think all this talk about how Mike should just take some low-pay midday middle-market gig might be underestimating his level of desperation. I mean he's 50 going on 70, can't cut-and-paste let alone run a board, doesn't track at all with current music/trends/anything, has no contacts, and is really just fundamentally ineffectual as a broadcaster.

Right now Mike is totally dependent on all the other laid-off losers to do all the legwork, fake his Facebook presence, fill air time and thinks just as long as he puts his golden mouth in front of the microphone he's done his part. But I doubt anyone would be crazy enough to hire him a whole studio crew to do the fake Jack Diamond thing, and Jack Diamond is way better at being Jack Diamond than Mike O'Meara is. Even if he did come to realize his calling as a "second banana," there are a thousand eager "Internet Radio Tommys" that he continues to insecurely mock who would fill that position far more effectively/cheaply.

So really, maybe it's the podcast or Long John Silver's...

Mike O'Meara told me that he is going to be selling rides on the back of his Harley. It's one 10 minute ride for $25, two 10 minute rides for $45, or the Grand Deluxe Package - One SOLID hour of riding on back for $125.

I'm torn between the 2 ride package or the Grand Deluxe. Supposedly with the Grand Deluxe you can go inside his house and use the guest bathroom after the ride is over, but I haven't actually had this confirmed by anybody.

I mean, I'M cool with it, but it's probably not really up to me. Although, if it turns out that it IS up to me, then just tell Mike that I said "It's cool". Tell him it's from me.

The Washington Post's Paul Farhi cuts through the bullshit...

Q. The Future of Radio?

Paul, I loved the article by your colleague Mike Musgrove in this Sunday's business section about the Mike O'Meara Show podcast. I have been a big fan of that particular genre of talk radio for decades now (although I shudder at the "Guy Talk" label assigned to it), and am saddened by the homogenization of over the air radio as a whole. I can't help but feel like the relative success of the Mike O'Meara Show podcast, along with others (Adam Corolla, etc.) this could be a new frontier for a brand of radio that appeals to me. Do you think there is viability in this format?

A. Paul Farhi writes:

Depends what you mean by viability. Millions upon millions of podcast are downloaded every week. But it's like blogging; people love it, but not a lot of money in it.

Considering that his site went down the other day, I don't think so. I think they took it down because of the Washington Post reporter. It wouldn't look good selling this bullshit story about podcasting success while begging for someone to host your site.

I have a better question. Why did Mike O'Meara B.S. the Washington Post reporter the way he did? Is Mike making any money from this venture? No? Then why is he telling reporters that his podcast is as successful as his stint in radio, when it isn't.

Did I say I was worried about what you are saying? I asked why you care. I never indicated I was worried. 50+ pages with most posts from you indicate that you care quite a bit and I am curious as to why, sir.

Besides, even if you were Rob(b), Mike doesn't have the balls to mention this site "on the air." He's not Don. He'll never be Don.

For months and months, you have been saying you know I follow this thread, now all of a sudden you aren't buying it. Un"fuckin"believeable. Want to come on air tomorrow so I can prove it to you?

We are not asking for a call in. Well, don't say it wasn't offered. Keep up the criticism without offering up your reasons why and now too cowardly to voice them face to face.

As I said, unlike you I have a job, so I'm not going to up and go to Manassas to talk to you asshats (if it is really you).

Second, I have provided reasons for my criticism on this site. If you have been following this for "months and months" as you claim, you know them.

Third, if I was unemployed and had no real options, like you, I would have no problem making an ass out of myself on a podcast. But I have options, so I choose not to take the dead end route you have.

Call me a coward if you like. A real coward is a man who doesn't do what is necessary to provide for his family and, instead, plays "radio" in his friend's living room while the bills mount.

One reason (If you really were Rob)is you're in the process, with the other Fat Fuck, of defining American radio culture down. MOM took the stick of one of the greatest opportunities in radidio history and flew it controlled flight into terrain. MOM contributed to the ratings decline at a major CBS radio affiliate in no small measure. The "economy" doesn't stop people from listening to good radio.... Quite the opposite my fat fuck... Some people may have owned some CBS stock. Therefore one might have a real good reason to "care".

I know MOM wasn't the only reason for poor performance at CBS radio but he remains defiant with great hubris to this day about the cause of the MOMS demise.

Thankfully the only ones he can damage financially now are himself and surrounding fucktards. I'm pretty freeking sure we will not see an IPO for the MOMS podcast anytime soon.

So in closing why dontcha wheel on down to Dr. Bombay's office at Plastic Surgery & Ass.....get some fat sucked out of your brain...wise the fuck up and get a job.............(if your really Rob)

I'll call into the show. Wait they don't take phone calls. And when they did at WJFK, they wouldnt air any of the negative or critical callers. Same for their WJFK website. They don't want to hear anything bad except from CBS when they got the "You're Fired" call. Even then, they wouldn't acknowledge it on the air.

You should agree to a call in, Tone... That would be great to hear... You would be laid-back and calm while Mike and gang would be rabidly pouncing on you.

It's preposterous to imagine they couldn't come up with a way to record you...

Back to our regularly scheduled program:

Mike's latest get-rich-quick scheme is to sell three podcasts which will basically be porn. (Yeah, selling porn....the last refuge of the financially desperate.)

One of the podcasts will feature some porn star or other.

Another will feature Mike and the gang telling stories about their own sexual experiences. Mike promises to tell a story (in graphic detail) about the time he got lucky with a waitress. (I kid you not.)

And if that doesn't squick you out enough, Buzz will relate stories (again in graphic detail) about his trip to Hedonism way back when.

I can only imagine what sort of genius would actually pay Mike to hear these special "pay-per-view" podcasts.

Other than that, his other daily podcasts will still be free.

I would love to do a call. They would hate what I have to say. They would never run it, because it would be the truth.

Here is what it would entail:

1. I don't like this show because it is contrary to everything Don & Mike professed to believe in.

2. I don't understand how grown men could leave their families on the hook for an endeavor that has time and time again proven to be a failure.

3. I think Mike and Rob(b), especially, are living in denial and are terrified of the fact that they can't have what they had under Don.

4. I think what they are doing is a huge disservice to Oscar and Buzz, who could have successful careers on their own.

5. Mike is not a bad on-air presence. But he is no Howard Stern. It is time to recognize that fact and find a radio gig of some sort to earn some income.

6. Rob(b), you have spent 20 years of your life in an industry that you love that you have no business being in. You should have quit a long time ago. You let your ego run wild and now have nothing to show for it. You know what Carrie has been saying to you? It's all true. It's time for a reality check. You need to pursue that career in retail management, because you have NO business broadcasting shit.

The pay-per-view idea was something that really showed
their desperation when they first mentioned it last week(?)
No I still no longer listen to the podcast.
But the thought that came to mind was "Why buy the cow
when you get the milk for free?" Besides, stories of
Buzz's alternative lifestyle kinda creeped me out, TMI definitely.

All they had to do was figure out why the first show failed,
yes it failed, not the format change. And then make improvements.
If Mike had the work ethic and motivation as Oscar, things would
be better. But too much of Mike, Rob and Buzz just
seem "old school" in a bad boring way. Well maybe not Buzz,
news is news. I thought the breakfast meats show was lame.
At least the old Big O and Dukes "Snacks of the Roundtable"
had some flow to it. Scrapple is disgusting.

WRONG!

Scrapple is AWESOME!

Side-O-Grits & Butter and I'm in heaven.

But the MoM Pod-Cast Series is a DISASTER!
But this blog, if you wanna call it that, has got to be the best job I have ever seen done, where a group gets together to collectively shit in a guys hat. I mean the passion these passive listeners convey about the disgust with this utter failure is what is amazing about the Mike O'Meara PodCast. You could make a couple books out of what has been written already.

IMHO, what donI think the worst part about this "Show" is?
The part where they refuse to take calls, due to no creativity and an inability to take CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICIZIM.

Yo.

If that really was Rob(b), it's indicative of what's wrong with the show. When Don got pissed at this forum, he mentioned it by name on the air. Mike, on the other hand, is TERRIFIED to mention it on the air. Rob(b) will come on here and accuse me of being a coward, yet somehow the technology to install a phone line has evaded them. Even though I don't doubt that the switcher they have probably has an adapter for a phone jack and an amplifier.

The fact is, they are lazy chickenshits. If they could take phone calls, that would mean they would have to go through the effort of lining up guests. Right now, they can cruise with half the podcast consisting of Audio Vault and Buzz's week-old news. If they could do interviews or take calls, that would require work. And they wouldn't want to do that.

That's why they have Improv schools and El Salvadoran chicken huts in Rockville for sponsors.

Don can make conflict entertaining. If someone winds up in his cross-hairs you can feel him lock & load and know you're in for an entertaining (albeit one-sided)
fire fight.

Mikes in an insecure defensive crouch from the get go when confronting criticism. He has negative feedback on his facebook and show wall edited out he's so insecure. It's like if he can control content, crazies like us won't be able to post and convert what few listeners he has to our "cause". Wow! what a vote of confidence in your supporting audiences mental capacity.
His immature reactions create a level of dissonance more like a spoiled 2nd grader brat than someone trying to produce an entertaining radio show like Don.

Anyhow.... The MOM Raw Show..... Way to think ahead Mike! I wonder who first came up with that idea? Their not quite where they want to be at this point in their fledgling podcast business. So what the hell.. Lets do a pay per view. They can't afford the bandwidth their using now but lets burn up more BW with a pay per view. They will have video upload too!

What a researched and well constructed business proposal this must have been. Why Mike couldn't walk into a bank and get a small business loan from the beginning is beyond me.

With all the resources and data available for determining the chances of succeeding in this venture there is no excuse for making such sophomoric business decisions. If he was serious about cashing in his life insurance policy more than likely he's leveraged to the hilt financially. It is seriously sad in this economy to see capital wasted on a venture that common sense would have told you was doomed from the beginning.

I give him credit for ripping off Adam Carolla's business model. However, I doubt he will see anywhere near the same financial return.

I see the chicken joint in Rockville no longer advertises on his site. I also notice that TMOS has not one but TWO advertising spots on the DCRTV sight (run by a dude Don and Mike used to trash). I thought if he were doing as well as he proclaims, he wouldnt need to advertise.

WIKI:

As of February 23, 2009, Adam began hosting a daily podcast at www.carollaradio.com. The show is available through iTunes: The Adam Carolla Podcast. The RSS feed is The Adam Carolla RSS Feed. In the initial 24 hours, the first Adam Carolla podcast was downloaded over 250,000 times and, as of the third podcast, it was the number one podcast on iTunes in both the U.S. and Canada. During the debut week, the Adam Carolla podcast recorded 1.6 million downloads. In the second week it recorded 2.4 million downloads. By the second week of the show, the fourth episode of the podcast featuring former Adam Carolla Show sidekick Dave Dameshek was downloaded over 500,000 times. Adam stated that bandwidth costs over $9,000 per month as of May 2009. In September 2009 Adam monetized the show with an ad for his first sponsor, Adam & Eve. CBS Radio announced on September 16, 2009 a partnership with Adam Carolla. In the statement CBS Radio also announced a new streaming radio station called K-ACE in which Carolla will head.In July of 2009 Adam introduced a new automotive-oriented podcast, called CarCast. The first week's show topped the iTunes charts.

This info was conveyed earlier on this thread but it's worth reviewing. Obviously Corolla landed with a much bigger splash then Mike. Much Much bigger splash. Of course being in partnership with CBS helps as with using the podcast as a conduit to his stand-up appearances. The bulk of Carolla's revenue is not derived from the podcast of course. With all this in mind, MOM is like holding open mike night in his basement compared to Corolla's business model. I mean with Carolla averaging 400,000 downloads per day compared to Mike's purported 15,000. Do the math and that is 4% of Carollas total his first week

Only because in his words there are numerous forums for people to go to and complain about the show, to numerous to name I guess. (He knows FFU is the big enchilada)

And my personal favorite MOM explanation for not mentioning this thread by name.

paraphrased "I know I'm not suppose to acknowledge them publicly. I know the psychology of these guys. Their not happy with their own lifes and want to do what were doing." (A podcast in our basements?).....

And then he states he doesn't like people "shitting where he eats"........ Oh Really.....

Mike O'Meara was locked into the 21st slot for most of the time his show was on WJFK. Only toward the end did it move up at all (into the high teens) because it was the lead-in for the Caps' playoff games.

As much as Lavar sucks, he is cheaper than Mike. And Lavar actually moved up to 19th place.

CBS claims to be making more money with WJFK now because of the sports tie-in. I can certainly see that happening. While it would be great if WJFK was a Top 10 station, it probably never will be. The goal is to make more money with less cost. That can't be done with TMOS.

Most fat guys that don't get laid by thier trophy wives ARE into "Raw"
pornography.

Someone mentioned Mike has the face of a radio jock? Well my first impression was this guy looks like a cross-dresser, just add lipstick. The push-broom mustache is for added effect.

Here's an idea you can capialize on Mike: since you like Transexuals and "Old Queens" why don't you open up another Tranny Club in D.C.. Make sure you play "Rocky Horror Picture Show" soundtrack on a constant loop over the PA system.

That Mike, is a buisiness model destined for success!

Lastly, someone said they don't understand why Mike couldn't go to a bank and get a small buisiness loan. Well the same reason a loan officer does not want to give him money to piss away, is the same reason his "listeners" and "fans" don't want to donate thier pocket change to advance this shitty venture.

Is that a reference to collecting an unemployment check? If so, that would apply to Rob(b).

Really? How am I supposed to make Mike's podcast take phone calls?

As I said, I have no problem calling in.

It's obvious Rob(b) or one of the MOM show's fans wants me to acknowledge that I have been wrong about Mike all along.

Yes, I have been wrong about how bad the MOM show was on WJFK. That's why it is still on the air there.

Yes, I was wrong about Michael Hughes being an idiot for giving Mike his own show for so long. That's why Michael Hughes is still at WJFK.

Yes, I was wrong about Mike's podcast not being a success. That's why the site keeps going down because they don't have the money to pay for bandwidth or why Mike is screaming at Oscar on the air about not having big sponsors or only 15 people showing up at Mike's Super Bowl show or....

Yes, the Washington Post did a nice story about how successful Mike's podcast is. The Post also did a nice story about how successful Mike's bar was and how he was going to acquire the Sign of the Whale and have a chain of successful restaurants. Why don't we go to O'Meara's Pub now? It's such a success.

I seriously doubt that was Robb or anyone connected with the show.

In the interest that the MOM crew ever does read this looking for a reason for the hostility, I can't answer for everyone but in my case, the MOM show makes me so fucking angry because it's such a waste.

Mike, Robb, Buzz, you've got like 50% of the on air crew of one of the biggest, most successful nationally syndicated radio shows in history. Epic bits. Gags and bits and characters that made me shit myself. Then Don leaves and you reinvent. You reinvent to the most hack, cheap, small-time gimmicky radio shows that I can hear on any local affiliate. And you do it waving the old D&M Banner by naming the show after yourself. We tune in expecting to hear D&M and we hear Toby and the Cocks. Oh, wow, they're at a harley davidson dealership today. Oh cool, they're talking about hockey... AGAIN. WOW! I can't fucking believe it, they're interviewing the local DC TRAFFIC LADY! Someone get my meds! Oh, better get comfy, it's BYOB Friday. And now it's BYOB Tuesday. And BYOB Wednesday. And come to think of it, they had a beer drinking show on Monday. And, oh no, Mike's yelling at someone again. Wow. And dude, if you're going to rip on someone ON THE AIR and with FCC confinements, stay away from saying "Fuck" because it makes you look like a retard to shout "SUCK IT HATERS! YOU EFFERS!" Effers? Sounds like we're being told off by a 2nd grade mormon kid.

Your show(s) could've been so much more. For over 2 decades you saw how to do it. But no, you stick to safe. Always. You don't take calls now and before you only took positive calls. Don would lead the negative ones through. He'd let them hang themselves on air with their own stupid comments. But now you guys are shoveling shit and on your website, you delete negative comments. ALL negative comments. I've personally left 3 that were CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. I didn't say "fatass" or "talentless" but I did rely heavily on the B-word: "boring." Your WJFK show and now your podcast are BORING. You got a radio shack voice changer and use it to bash other podcast shows. Classy. Your show is such an unbelievable waste. You shovel shit for the entire hour and sit around patting yourself on the back like you're breaking new ground or doing something edgy or that you're on the cutting edge of the medium of radio. People long before you have been doing this and doing it better. I don't think you've EARNED the right to pat yourself on the back for anything. Look, Robb got another radio job. It's part-time sure, but could lead to something more; he's "out there" at least. Buzz got a column in the Post. Oscar already has a full time job that he squeezes the podcast into. Mike you're not doing SHIT. It's like you're just sitting there wanting the fans to seek you out. Newsflash, no one wants to hear an angry, insecure dick who shouts at/over his cohosts, feeds his audience this bland oatmeal and expects to be worshipped as the greatest, funniest, most innovative personality since Johnny Carson.

That's why I am so angry, Mr. O'meara. Your sense of entitlement. You radiate an aura of "Hey I was good for 20 years on the old show, so you owe it to me to like anything I do." Bullshit, sir. You don't try and it shows through your show. Your lack of effort and care for show preperation is a burden to your cohosts and your audience resents you all for it; you for doing it and your cohosts for putting up with it. I've got better things to listen to than to do half your job for you by listening and repeatedly telling myself after listening to your podcast "It's okay, they can't ALL be funny."
