If you look at the banner ad for KCJJ on DCRTV, it talks about listening to Rob(b) on his weekend show, or on the Mike O'Meara Show on Mike's website. Am I to infer from this that KCJJ is NOT running Mike's show on the air? And if that is the case, WTF is up with all of the "break for stations down the line" bullshit? They don't even have ONE station???

Unfortunately, I don't think Mike will be losing any weight soon. He admitted on his last podcast that he cheated on his Weight Watchers diet -- on day one.

You can't fool me. Your not Fat and White. Your real name is Dr. Head the Knob Dr. AKA Dr. Knob Gobbler. Haven't seen you since the beatdown we gave you back on page 47.

It's understandably hard for you to have "composure" doing anything when you have Mikes manmeat rammed down your throat all the way to the nut. That's the impression I get. Although Robb has a weekend show on KCJJ, I don't think they are actually playing Mike's podcasts -- just giving him a little (free?) advertising courtesy of Robb.

If they were going to play the podcasts, wouldn't they do it "live?" So, yeah, I don't get the whole "station break" shit.

To Fat and White:

If Mike makes a success of this, I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong. But I don't think I'll have too. If this was a viable way to broadcast, while still earning a living, you have to ask yourself why Don has never tried it.

Apparently, Mike and his buddies think this is a way to "come back" without having to work for "the man." He's like a lot of people who try to start their own businesses when they really aren't in a position to do so. But sometimes you have to realize, "hey, maybe I really do have to work for the man if I want to earn a living."

It's a nice dream, Mike, but it's time to wake up now.

Don can't because of the non-compete with CBS. A while back he struck a deal with them to do one, but then they wanted him to be censored in the same way he was on the radio which he found ridiculous so he decided not to.

That's true, JW, but at least Don was attempting to do a deal with CBS -- not just broadcast from his living room in the hopes that some station "down the line" would play it -- or asking for donations from listeners.

And now that his non-compete with CBS has expired, what's preventing him from doing the same thing that Mike's doing? He has more money than Mike to spend on a project like this. And yet he doesn't. Maybe because he thinks it's not worth it?

(You also have to wonder if Don has made any donations on Mike's website. Somehow, I think not.)

I am highly entertained listening to Mike beg his listeners for money everyday. I thought Mike would have more dignity than that, if not for himself, for his daughters. A real man would feel bad and try and get a real job or at least a part-time job. Oh well, keep begging your listeners Mike, it makes me laugh.

Don's contract runs through October 2010, so his non-compete has NOT expired.

Is he really begging everyday for money? If so, that would explain why his so-called "fans" are wringing their hands and gnashing their teeth in the online forums about why they haven't been giving.

Part of Mike's problem is this idiotic notion he has of using five-times the bandwidth needed for each podcast because he somehow thinks a radio station will use it. If he had any common sense, he would have a podcast site and a radio FTP site. The podcast site would have a compressed version, which would make it easier for those listening on iPods to download. But that would be too difficult for him to figure out, I guess.

Ah, then I stand corrected. I thought I'd heard that Don's issues with CBS had been resolved.

But I still don't think you'd see him begging listeners for donations in order to get his broadcasting career back on track.

It's funny. Mikes averaging may be 40 comments on each show. And I'll guarandamntee you most of those are plants. At that rate it will take them over 2 yrs to catch up with what this little community threads done since April of last year. This thread especially with all the views would be more valuable for advertisers and give them more exposure than his stupid ass clown posse.

While Mike and Rob(b) pretend to still be in the radio business, Buzz is bringing in some coin...

Buzz actually has a marketable skill, unlike Mike and Rob(b). As for working, does anyone know what Oscar's real job is these days? Is it even still in broadcasting?

It should be pointed out that after six weeks of begging and groveling, Mike has raised about $1,700 (according to his "Donor Wall.") Others are on there, but haven't listed their donations. For argument's sake, let's double that to $3,400.

So assume Mike can generate $3,400 a month in donations. If he were able to maintain this for one year (which is unlikely), that would come out to about $40K a year.

Minus the $30K a year in bandwidth he is using, take out the 25% in taxes, and that should give each member of the team about $1,700 a year in income.

Good career move, guys.

DCRTV:

O'Meara Pleased With 1st Month Of Podcast - 1/13 - Former WJFKer Mike O'Meara (right) tells DCRTV that his new one-month-old internet radio show is going gangbusters. "I'm very happy with the numbers from the podcast," which is done from O'Meara's Manassas home and is available weekdays at mikeomearashow.com. "We have had interest from former (WJFK show) affilliates and we are in talks with some of them right now to pick up the show," says O'Meara, whose WJFK show got yanked last summer when the station flipped to sports talk. He had to sit out his CBS Radio contract until December 1st. So far, only one radio station is carrying the new one-hour show, KCJJ in Iowa City, Iowa. O'Meara adds: "My new venture is in its early stages, but I can't believe how much fun doing the podcasts is, and I can see this being something my listeners and I can enjoy for a long time." He says his new website has sported more than quarter-of-a-million unique visitors in the first month, with almost half-a-million podcast downloads. A Facebook podcast app is up, with an iPhone app coming soon. Oh, regarding rumors of tension between him and other top local radio personalities, O'Meara says: "I have a very good relationship with Jack Diamond, and communicate with him regularly. I also have spoken with Don (Geronimo) recently and we both enthusiastically follow each others' careers".....

500,000 downloads divided by 20 podcasts (let's say) = 25,000 listeners.

Adam Corolla does 250,000 downloads a day and is still losing money on his podcasts. Corolla compresses the crap out of his podcasts, so the file size is about 1/5th the size of each O'Meara podcast file. That means O'Meara could be paying as much as $5K a month for bandwidth, since Corolla claims to spend about $10K a month.

Adam Corolla was bitching today that he has no money and he has to do live appearances to bring in income. The guy has several hundred thousand people listening to his podcast, a national image and tons of connections in the entertainment industry, yet HE can't make money on a podcast. Oh, and he doesn't have three other people he's trying to support! Even his friend who helps with the podcasts, the Weeze, has a fucking job!

Mike, on the other hand, is living in a fantasy world where he can carry four people on a one-hour podcast out of his house. A one-hour podcast that doesn't have guests on it. A podcast where he doesn't take calls! And, by the way, radio program clocks are broken out in four to five hour chunks. What fucking programming director is going to pick up a one-hour daily show that is also podcast????

Cracks are already beginning to show in Mike's armor. He's been complaining on his podcasts about lacking any big sponsors. He seems to need constant reassurance from Oscar that things are going to work out.

They also keep pestering the listeners to "spread the word" about the podcasts. And they seem genuinely amazed that so many people don't realize "they are back."

Um, no guys. You're not "back." You're not doing a show on an actual station anymore.

The guy who runs DCRTV suggested that Mike lower his expectations and try to land a gig at WINC-FM in Winchester. That's a hell of a fall for Mike, but probably one of the more realistic options out there.

The days of being a millionaire shock jock are done. Ad revenues are down, stations aren't worth what they used to be and everyone thinks they can be a DJ for $50K a year. If Mike is holding out for D&M, Part II, he is sadly mistaken.

Nevermind.

Going off on a tangent again, I don't know about millionaire podcasters, but at this point the only one who seems to actually make a profit is Alex Jones, his infowars.com, and prisonplanet.tv websites have around 30,000 subscribers and he charges $5.95 a month, and his free podcast gets around 200,000 a day, and in july when he had a moneybomb to generate donations, he received over $421,000... He also has his own radio studio, and staff...

Jones is supported by a syndicated radio deal with 60 affiliates. He has also tapped into a paranoid niche market. Mike doesn't have the luxury of doing this stuff in his spare time while receiving a weekly paycheck.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, Mike's podcasts are just great. He's as hilarious as ever and it won't belong before he's picked up by some big city radio network. He's comedy gold, you should really check the podcasts out, you'll like what you hear. It's definitely worth donating a few bucks every month, just like paying for sattelite XM. Mike's a super talented guy with a big heart, unlike some the angry folks I see on here.

Oh dear, I don't know where to start with this brilliant commentary.

Don't know about the "comedy gold" 'Darcy'.

But, on the plus side your Iowa spelling is spot-on!!

Finally, can you really compare money spent on XM?/Siri to MoM entertainment?

Time for a trip to Circle K to pick up another Coors Light 12-pack 'Darcy'.

He probably maxed out his allocation of bandwidth and had to bump it up. This comes from running 56mb files for imaginary radio affiliates versus the 10 mb typical of normal podcasts.

Somehow "juices flowing" and "Fist the Nation" makes me kind of queasy.

I understand Mike is bitching on a pretty regular basis now about how he can't get major sponsors to sign on to cover his costs. Maybe now he can relate to what the sales staff at WJFK and management at CBS were going through when he worked for them.

Mike would probably blame his lack of sponsors on the economy. He still refers to his termination at WJFK as being "a victim of the economy."

I'd agree that things have changed in the radio industry in the last five to ten years -- and the days of the high-paid shock jocks are over.

Still, Mike takes no ownership of the fact that his show was embarrassingly lame.

Apparently, he's still as tempermental as ever too. I listened to the podcast today, and Robb was in a funk because Mike was bitching at him before the "show."

Maybe if Mike decided to put out an entertaining show - then maybe someone would sponsor him.

His termination at WJFK was a result of being "a victim of having a show that no one listened to". Mike is worthless without Don.

This is the problem with podcasts. The only appeal for radio shows like Mike's is (was) that you could get local car dealerships and bars on board to advertise because the station would do live remotes to bring people in.

Nobody is going to pay Mike what they would pay WJFK because WJFK can bring people into a car dealership or bar. Mike, with his podcast, can't.

Hilarious how they decided to turn today's show into, in effect, an infomercial with one of their two only advertisers. And even funnier how insecure Mike was at stooping down yet another rung, snapping at Oscar when he immediately started in praising and questioning the plastic surgeon, "I HAVEN'T EVEN OPENED MY SHOW YET FOR GOD'S SAKE"

The cracks are turning into fissures. God and it was so predictable, how on earth couldn't they see this miserable failure coming. I give it one more week, tops.

Advertising is free on the MoM show!
Mike just tells all advertisers to "spread the good word to all your friends and we'll call it even".

(Mike can be bribed with a Big Mac meal also, this is usually easier

I would venture to guess that Mike will eventually blame Oscar for talking him into doing the podcast. I get the impression that Mike got an offer from a local station (something like $75K and a college intern as a sidekick, which is about the going rate these days) and he turned it down on the supposed promise of a huge windfall from podcasting. Oscar probably told Mike about all those "millionaire podcasters" out there, forgetting to mention that most of them make their money from other sources and not the podcasts themselves.

And today, Oscar puts out a plea for someone to "step up" and host all the MP3s & website for free. He said they could no longer afford their bandwidth costs and keep doing the show.

Buzz: "Well, we'll PAY, we're just looking for a deal--"
Oscar: "No, looking to trade if we can...."

This pathetic enterprise doesn't even have a plan to cover its most fundamental of expenses. It's like saying, "I'd like to put on a radio show. Someone now please give me a broadcast studio and radio tower for free."

Glad to see they researched this before they started. This would explain why the site went down. They probably used all of their bandwidth for the year on those fucking 57 mb files. What fucking planet are they on? Nobody is going to give them $5K to $10K a month in hosting and bandwidth per month. These guys put ZERO effort into figuring out what it would cost to do this. I guess they assumed bandwidth was free. Morons.

I think this is already happening behind the scenes, just from reading between the lines from things they say on the show.

If Mike turned down a 75K a year job to do these podcasts, he needs to have his damn head examined. Yes, I think Mike should have done a little more research before making that decision.

Of course, there's still plenty of bravado on the show. Mike was saying just today that he was really worried at first, but now things are really picking up for them. Umm.....ok.

Then, as Rue said, Oscar makes his plea for a free webhost. Yep, sounds like things are going great.

Well, he did say this during his radio show....

"...As far as the rest of you, pinch it, curl it, stick your tongue in it and lick it! I have so had it with you jealous wannabe haters out there! I'M STILL HERE! I SURVIVED THE CRAP!SO F-YOU!AND I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE!"

You know, Mike can sit in his sweats and drink Scotch and soda and pretend he still has a radio show all he wants. I just feel kind of bad for the other three or four suckers he is dragging down with him (okay, maybe not Robb).

I don't know if Oscar has a future in radio. But at least he is smart enough to get some kind of paying gig so he doesn't go bankrupt.

Buzz seems like he had been in the radio biz long enough before his involvement with D&M to know how the radio business goes. He has actively been out landing voice-over gigs and trying to make things happen, which I have respect for despite his fisting tendencies.

I can't fathom how Rob(b)'s wife puts up with this shit every day. The guy spends his days hanging out with a drunk guy in Manassas, pretending to be working on a paycheck. No wife that I know of would put up with this shit for long. She needs to strap a cord to his genitals and reel his unrealistic ass in before they have problem paying bills (if they don't already).

Mike. Well, Mike is Mike. His fucking ego is working against him. I wonder if Carla is going to put her foot down and make this fat slob get some kind of job. I don't buy this shit that he has millions stashed away somewhere. I can't imagine this isn't taking a toll on the home front.

The one Im most conerned about is Robb. He has a wife and child to support and quite honestly, I think he would make more money working at McDonalds than the two radio "gigs" he currently has. How much could he possibly be making from the Iowa radio station? Can't believe that radio station in that market has a budget that could afford to pay him more than a couple of grand a year. It's time for him to man-up, admit his failures in radio and move on to a regular career to sustain his family. Very sad.

Mike asked Robb the other day -- and I don't remember how it happened to come up -- "Doesn't Carrie have a job?"

Robb said that yes, Carrie has a job (in retail), and that if it wasn't for that things would be much worse for them. Still, I got the feeling that Robb was trying make the situation sound better than it really is.

I recall Robb saying, back when the MOM show was on WJFK, that Carrie had a job as a greeter at Walmart. So, is that her "retail job?" If so, I can't imagine she's pulling down much of a salary -- even if she's been promoted to head cashier or shelf stacker.

They did a podcast (on Tuesday, I think) on which they discussed their termination from WJFK. Mike said that he "hasn't been totally stupid" about his money, and that even in spite of his divorces, he'd managed to save enough that he didn't have to go into panic mode when the ax fell.

If that's the case, why is he begging for donations from listeners? IMO, he's been sounding pretty panicky about the profitability of these podcasts and whether or not this enterprise is really going to pay off.

I agree with WTL. I don't think Mike has millions stashed away. Mike has said that if he could, he'd be retired now, living in Florida and playing golf every day.

Re: The Mike O'Meara Show

Mike wasn't in panic mode "when the ax fell" because he was on the CBS payroll until December 1. You can't tell me that between the three marriages (two divorces, kids), the failed bar, the depreciated house and wasting money on Harley-Davidsons that Mike has money stashed away. When Mike worked with Don, he was Don's employee - not a partner in the show. And I'm sure the subsequent deal with WJFK wasn't at the same pay level he was getting from Don. I really think Mike was probably pulling down something in the $250K to $350K range, which doesn't go very far when you have the kinds of obligations he has.

As for Iowa, I don't think that station pays Rob(b) anything. I think they are just giving his show clearance so he can sell ads. But keep in mind, even if he does sell ads, what could the going rate for a Saturday show in BFE Iowa be? $25 a spot? $50? Best case scenario would be a few hundred bucks a month.

What crackes me up about Mike is how two-faced he is. In the D&M days, they used to pride themselves with being edgy and crude ala Howard Stern. Post Janet Jackson, he used to moan how they had to conform to the new rules and do a more family friendly show. Now he has the freedom to do and say what they want during a podcast and he still does a Jack Diamondesque show. I dont think Ive heard them curse or do anything coming close to edgy. Almost as if he's auditioning for gig on a light music station like 97.1......

I just listened to the new Mike O'Meara podcast and it is great. I can't believe how good it is to have the old gang back. he is very creative and has brought with him Buzz and Rob who are true friends taking this new adventure with Mike seriously.

You are making fools out of yourselves. You sound like the group from Wayne's World and probably look a lot like them.

That's why he can't find real sponsors.

Good for you. Appreciate it while you can.

Just because Mike and Rob(b) are delusional and Buzz and Oscar have nothing to lose doesn't mean they are taking "this new adventure with Mike seriously."

Wait. We are the ones who are like Wayne's World? Ummm, WE aren't the ones doing a pretend show from our sofa in our living room! Mike is.

More Rupert Pupkin than Wayne Campbell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNtHdvzp1Ow

Amazing we don't hear Carla constantly nagging him from the other room, admonishing him to keep it to a reasonable volume. "But I have to do this now!!"

Surely she's tripped over enough microphone cables strewn across her living room by now to be getting quite tired of Mike's pretend radio afternoon radio hour. Now it's just a matter of when she finally maxes out the credit cards and walks away...

That's probably already in the works. Unfortunately for Rob(b)'s wife, his credit limit is probably $500, so there's not much juice in that turnip.

I posted this earlier, it's probably buried in a previous page - but early in the MOMS, Mike was admonishing Rob(b) for something and he said "...don't look at me that way, I took a pay cut too...".

So I'm guessing CBS/Michael Hughes didn't pay completely crazy money for MOM, Rob(b) and Buzz.

Ah, the irony, Beth Ann McBride Tom Kent's "affiliate director", is working from home and probably generating more cash than MOM and Rob(b) combined.
