Calling all history buffs: Fairfax County Park Authority has taken the first step to approve the demolition of the old Lorton Nike Missile Base on Furnace Road. From the Fairfax Times: According to Park Authority documents, the school system plans to raze dilapidated buildings on the now-park-owned property, which was a former Nike missile launch site, to build the middle school. The trade w

Stand, That is the old Youth Correctional Facility. I have some photos from out around it that I'm planning on posting in a little bit. Have not been able to get inside to get photos yet. (When I drove by there on Thursday, the front gates were wide open. Wonder if the County is doing something in there.) FWIW, the current version of the County's long-term plan for that prison is for those

The Board of Supervisors is looking to develop the entire Lorton area into tract housing on 0.001 acre plots, similar to this: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=38.696053,-77.232814&spn=0.005409,0.011362&t=h&z=17 They are literally drooling at the thought of collecting taxes on all those houses. And as we all know, where there's tax money to be had, the Board of Supervisors wi

"Health room services are still designed to provide basic care to sick and injured students and to notify parents and guardians when further health follow-up is needed." Umm... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what a "clinic" is all about? Do we *really* need this kind of dumbing-down here in the Commonwealth? Argh.

Via News Channel 8, our quality of life just keeps on getting better: SPRINGFIELD, Md. - Authorities in Fairfax County say they are searching for a suspect who carjacked and kidnapped a woman from the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station Tuesday night. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the parking garage at 6880 Frontier Drive. Police say a man forced the woman

Pat Herrity introduced a motion to block the expansion, and he cited a long list of complaints which we're all familiar with. An increase in traffic fatalities, development out of character with the surrounding area, development in an environmentally-protected region of land, the surrounding communities being 100% against the expansion, etc. After seeing a number of Supervisors agree with the t

Watching it live on Channel 16 -- http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/cable/channel16/asx/live_stream.asx The Board has listed off every single land-use and transportation issue that have been raised from the very beginning. This is an amazing thing to observe!

Of course, enforcement is devolved to the County governments, and some of them are, shall we say, a bit more proactive about it than others. Personally, I think we'd be better served if the Commonwealth would just wor

close them all: Telling other people what they should do with their children is stock and trade for what "liberals" do today. Merely tarring you based on your perceived (collectivist) suggestions. Anyway, I'll table this topic for now. I think we've gotten to the point in our argument where we begin to suggest that each other's mother's wear army boots, which won't do either of us any good. I

close them all: You have no right to dictate to other people how their children should be raised. You do have full control over your own, of course, including the right to raise them to be as anti-religious as you want. It's not "Child abuse," it's "Freedom of choice." I thought you liberal types were FOR that. ;)

Question: Yes it is 100% accurate. There were more people in attendance at the Planning Commission meeting than have ever been recorded in that board room before, and well over 99% of them were from ISA. I have a few photos from the meeting posted here: http://snappedshot.com/archives/3700-Creeping-Sharia-in-Fairfax-County,-Virginia.html Can provide more, if I can find where I stashed them awa

Maybe you're not familiar, but the United States is a country that was founded on *freedom*. Location: They didn't seem intimidated to me, but rather, it seemed as if they came to the meeting preferring to hear one side of the story. Not generally a good demeanor for an "impartial" public commission to have, but it seems to be the direction our country is going. Vince(1): That's ridiculous. Parents who wish to remove their children from the public school system should *always* be allo

info: What information? The County has repeatedly shown that it has no interest in stopping this building from happening, even though it's (a) completely out of character for the rural Pope's Head Road, would (b) cause innumerable traffic problems (and potentially fatalities) to bring 600 students down that road every day, and (c) is opposed by everyone who lives around the site. There is no need to bribe anybody. We have more than enough mutton-headed proponents of diversity in the County government to allow this expansion to go through completely unchecked, based solely on the fact that it is non-Americans that are asking to expand in an ecologically-protected area. If this were a Christian school, it would've been shot down before the paperwork was even signed. (Or

(Newington was originally a glebe, by the way. Most of the land around the intersection of Accotink Rd and Newington Rd belonged to the local parish initially, and was later sold to Richard "Hard" Chichester, who was reportedly a real character. His family's grave remains near the intersection to this day, though the surrounding area has really been built up - which is the Fairfax County way.)

"Glebe" refers to the boundaries of an old Church reservation, back when the Anglican Church was the official religion of Virginia, if I recall correctly. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1P3-821758281.html I believe Backlick Road was named for one of the creeks that runs up in Springfield near the Washington Post's printing plant. (Might be wrong about that, but don't have any reference materi
