Don't have the glossy photo Captain Dan gave me of the WWDC helicopter, so this screen cap was the best I could find. He visited just about every school in the area back then. Complete with Safeway sponsorship on the side.

Remember when the State Troopers had the big Furys? Every one of their unmarked cars was the same baby blue color you could see for miles away when they were running speed traps on I-95. And then there were the poor VolvoCops of Falls Church in the 80s.

They started that early day thing in FCPS when I was in elementary school. Originally, it was on Wednesdays. That proved so wildly unpopular with folks trying to schedule around it that it was moved to Mondays after a year or two. Don't remember the rationale behind it...teacher work time?

The cops'll be against it. They have those cameras on their cars now that can read plates and run them through the computer while they drive past you. Those are set up to see the front plates, from what I can tell. Interesting to see if the bill gets any traction.

They actually had a competition only a few years ago, and that design won. Don't know how. I thought the old, blue signs were fine. Always thought Welcome to Virginia sounded better than Virginia Welcomes You, anyway. The poorly drawn bird is part of the new design, not the sign painters' fault.

Ya know, if I gotta go while driving the car, I'd rather it be by a huge old tree than by some ass-wipe talking on their cell phone and blowing through a red light. You don't usually get to choose when or how, though. RIP to the guy and the tree.

Back in the 70s & 80s, there was a subset who referred to the community college as NOVA CoCo. Very cutesy and usually folks you didn't hang around with much.
