Expired registration isn't that bad, I've always just gone and paid a month or two late. I don't remember if I had to pay a late fee or not. It's no insurance or no VA license that is the big one. Problem is that if you park in a complex (apartment\condo) they will see expired tags and want to ticket and tow it.
