I would like to have a 3G tablet at work since we do not have a WiFi network and there are times (e.g., at many airports) where WiFi is not free or in the car on a road trip.

Does anyone know if you can upgrade from an Android phone like the HTC Incredible to the Galaxy Tab or Motorola Xoom on Verizon Wireless? I am due for a new phone in about 60 days and realized over the weekend that a 3G tablet would be a more practical choice and I could simply get a relatively basic handset for the $9.99 per month to make calls. However, it looks like VZW does not offer this o

I read files from the drive when I connect it to the MacBook, but I cannot write anything new. I might see whether it will all fit on a large flash drive, otherwise I will just buy a 250GB external drive.

Highly recommend Paws Awhile in Warrenton. A bit out of the way, but "the nuns" run a great facility and the prices really are not that bad. The extra services (e.g., nature walks) are worth the expense, especially if you have an active dog or one that requires a little extra TLC. http://www.pawsawhilepetmotel.com/

I am looking replace my mountain bike with something a bit more commuter-friendly and have been looking at the urban/city style. The heavy tread, frame and suspension on my GT are too much for riding after work on the W&OD and FXCO Parkway. I rode a city bike at REI over the weekend with a locking front fork which was pretty comfortable and in my price range at around $500, but was wonderin

Ray's is great, no contest. However, making a good burger at home is really not that hard. Fresh ground meat from Springfield Butcher is a start and there is nothing wrong with keeping it simple with some cheese and a good roll. Just take your time, flip it no more than twice and let it rest for 5-10 minutes when it comes off the grill.

After spending a week in Naples FL and another in Miami I am pretty spoiled when it comes to cigar lounges. Every other night we hit a different place with a full bar, plenty of seating and big screen TVs. Plus, my boss bought a box of Opus X and handed them out on the last night. While I would never drop $25 on a cigar, I think that I now understand why people really covet these. The typical

Are you talking about FIOS? Comcast Sportsnet on 576 is great for most games, but when the Capitals get bumped for the Wizards the games are on 501 which is 'supposed' to be HD, but the Capitals games are always in SD on that channel with the same picture as Channel 1. Calling Verizon about this is useless - any idea who to contact? It should not matter in a week, but it happens too often duri

Interesting timing on this question as I noticed this the other night when I was shopping at Trader Joe's. Since I don't dive with ScubaPro gear I rarely had a reason to shop there, but it never seemed busy and I could not understand how they made any money and that really seems to be true about scuba shops in general. Personally, I like Adventure Scuba in Chantilly, but the folks at Woodbridge

The Fairfax USAR team (along with those from Virginia Beach, Miami-Dade, California and others across the US) receive Federal funds from FEMA and the Department of State to train and maintain a state of readiness to enable quick response to disasters such as the one in Japan, the 2010 Haitian earthquake and the Oklahoma City bombing. Your car will run on any type of gas that you put in the tank, but it might not run as well as it could. I am not a 'car guy', but have been told that the engine management computer will make adjustments for lower octane gas so that you don't get pinging and other noticeable performance issues. Over the course of a year the cost difference comes out to something like $100-120 and it always seem

+1 for Gas Buddy In the Burke/Springfield area the Express Stop near Old Keene Mill Road and Lee Chapel has consistently been the cheapest, but you need to time when you get there to avoid the amazing CF of traffic heading in every direction. Nearby and within a few cents is the Citgo on Burke Road behind the fire station. I use premium in two of my cars and would like to find a station that o

Most shops charge a $35-50 "diagnostic" fee which makes sense if you need to repair a $1200 Scag mower, but I have more or less given up trying to repair the type of DIY/consumer grade power equipment from Sears, Lowe's and Home Depot. If the shop in Manassas can give you a rough idea of the solution without much upfront investment, great, but even a "simple" repair can cost $100 with parts. Wi

This should be good news for people who would like to use this exit on the weekend...http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dr-gridlock/2011/02/i-66_hov_ramps_opening_to_all.html Not sure why this took so long and why it is going to cost $200K, but something that seems overdue if you are looking for an alternative to the Route 50 exit if you are heading to Wegman's or Fair Lakes.

I started using Prestone Ice & Frost Shield if I need to leave me car outside overnight and it works pretty well on a morning like today and helps make removing snow and ice easier if there is some light accumulation. Run your wipers a few times with washer fluid and the windshield is almost clear. A can costs about $4 at Auto Zone. http://www.prestone.com/company/news/article/514?popup=

For what it's worth, the retail markup on tires is huge. When I asked Mr. Tire for a quote on the General Altimax the total price - installed with road hazard coverage and taxes - was around $850, but with the price match it came down to $525. Unless you are stuck and need tires right now this is the type of purchase that really benefits from a bit of research.

Concur with Tire Rack, but Mr. Tire will price match (that is my experience with Dave at the Burke location) with the shipping cost and sales tax more or less washing each other out. I would highly recommend the General Altimax HP for your car...not something that most retailers will suggest when they make a lot more from Michelin and Goodyear, but I have used these on a Saab 9-3, an Acura TL an

Confirming my personal experience, but it looks like most people in this region are going with AT&T and I am going to follow along. We have been using Verizon and I was hoping to be able to simply set up the e-mail sync to my HTC Incredible, but they will not allow personal devices to access corporate e-mail and other services. The differences between carriers is amazing. I had clients in
