looks like W&M peed in someone's cereal... apparently someone who thinks that "liberal arts" equates to "literature" W&M has built its reputation on a commitment to undergraduate teaching, not graduate programs or professors that do research and leave the teaching to TAs.

no one in this thread has explained why GT centers hurt the education of the nonGTC students, though this point has been repeated many times. Regressing to the mean is not the best way to educate students. Why should students who are smart and motivated to learn be forced to sit in classrooms with students who refuse to concentrate, don't do their homework, and generally cause disruptions? If

I went through the program. I was fortunate that it was at my home school. Sounds like class sizes might've increased since the 90s, but we started in 3rd grade with 12 students, and ended up with 18-20 in 6th grade. Had a great 3rd grade teacher, and great 5th/6th teacher (had the same one for both of those years). 4th was not as good, but there are always better and worse teachers. We had

IB does teach you to write... ask any IB student who has gone through college. They come in ahead and more competent in their writing than their AP counterparts. IB teaches you to wri

IB Math Clarification: part of the problem is, there are two standard level math courses (IB Math SL) prominent in the US. Math Methods, which is AP Calc AB, and Math Studies, which is pre-calc. HL Math goes BEYOND Calc BC, as the poster with the kid doing math intensive work at college has mentioned, and is ahead of his AP counterparts. You all choose to conveniently ignore that information t

I think those arguing against redistricting would be significantly more effective if they brought up local ties to their current schools, rather than bashing South Lakes. People will respect your personal views to keep your children where they are b/c it is better for you. I hadn't been back to this thread since I posted on page 5, but I Just have to say: wow. I also don't understand the fasci

-------------------------- When we moved here we chose to move into an area that would allow our children to go to one of the top 100 High Schools in the country, and we've paid a pretty penny to ensure that they would. South Lakes has a terrible reputation and a bad academic record. They want to BUS my child and use her as a 'guinea pig' to help prop up a failing school. Rather than gearing the

gang fights don't make schools unsafe. Gangs fight with each other, not random people. seriously, FCPS is one of, if not the best, public school system in the country. If you want drugs, yea, you can definitely get them, but you can get them at high schools in the middle of nowhere too. get a good education and learn a few street smarts while your at it.
