Say goodbye BestBuy...
Posted by: Vexxxed ()

I tried to make a purchase from BestBuy a couple of days ago. A $4000 refrigerator. Did everything I was supposed to do and paid for it with Amex.

Before my screen could refresh, I'd received three emails telling me to call them that there was a problem with my payment.

So call them I did. For two days I tried and failed. Seems their phone system wasn't working right and they couldn't transfer calls.

Today I did manage to get transfered to a sales rep who told me my charge was "just hanging there as 'processing"

She tried to cancel is a couple of times and put it through again only to have the same thing happen. After a while she said she'd continue to try to put it through and let me know.

Ten minutes after I got off the phone I got a cancellation notice due to "problem with your payment."

Zero balance and a quick call to Amex showed nothing had been attempted toward my card.

Had high hopes for them when they opened.........can't wait for them to throw in the towel and close now.

Things have changed so much since they opened back in the 90's. It was the place to go for cd's, car stereos, computers and electronics and appliances. The internet was in it's infant stage then. The times have not been nice to Brick and mortar and Best Buy has struggled changing with the times. They are moving now to a "service" based sales meaning the underpaid unknowledgeable staff will now be pushing warrantys more too.

4000 bucks for a frig? You must be some evil 1%er and dont deserve anything that expensive. You know how many illegals we could support right here in Fairfax with that money.

GE - Profile 23.2 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Stainless-Steel

It's their most expensive model Best Buy sells, at least on the website.

GE is a piece of shit. I bought a GE 23.2 cuft side-by-side, counter depth stainless steel "Profile Artica" refrigerator 12 years ago for $2200.

Pretty much the only component that matters in that refrigerator that hasn't failed is the GE-sourced Matsushita (made in USA) compressor. I just replaced the motherboard ($110) this week after it failed while I was on vacation. Nothing like coming home from a relaxing trip to a fully thawed refrigerator.

I however, had foregone the whole Best Buy "experience" and ordered it online and delivered for about $100 less than what BB or any other local retailer would sell it for at the time.

I fixed your post for you.

Serously, do you really think it's worth spending $9000 for a device that keeps your shit cold? Sub Zero has about the worst reliability.

When you actually get a credit card and use it somewhere other than McDonalds or 7-Eleven, you'll know better.

Good luck with that.

Chances are that Vexxxed didn't fatfinger the credit card number. All credit card numbers, ABA numbers and some bank account numbers contain a check sum digit, usually Mod-10. Any e-commerce app worth it's salt will calculate the check sum and reject a bad number up front when the customer makes a mistake.

All I was trying to do was give you a heads up on when you've saved enough from your paper route to buy that next hot video game, you may very well bounce off of the closed doors at Best Buy.

Sorry about your reading comprehension, must make the fine print on gaming instructions a bitch huh?

Completely missed the part where their service rep tried to put the number through as well did ya?

The point for those following along at home is this. Best Buys decline isn't a fluke. It's not because some other company is bullying them into bankruptcy.

It's because the powers that be at the top don't give a damn. And the days of them being able to get away with that are done.

Btw...Hank is right. We accept credit cards in one of my businesses and if you key it in wrong..it will not go through. The machine has enough memory in it to know the difference between a good number and a bad one. If it's a bad number, it will not even attempt to put the transaction through.

At my store I get a lot of calls from older folks (and some not so old) who aren't reading the numbers properly on the card. Something about the typeface they use throws off some with a particular form of dyslexia, maybe this is what is happening with Mr. Vexxed? It's nothing to be ashamed of, it is just a reason why someone keying their own card number in on a web site or rattling off numbers on the phone to a rep won't work.

Probably matched an existing number but didn't match zip code or name. I get blamed for the mistakes too as Best Buy is in this case, I just roll with the punches even though they are misdirected.
